Dear Sir/MadamI am a filipino student taking up a postgrad. course here in Spain. I have been receiving the phno news for several months now and indeed I am very grateful for all these services. Lately I have been trying to delist my subscription since I´ll be out of Pamplona for thwo months. But it seems that I always fail in following the instruction as to how can I stop my subscription. Thus I would appreciate it very much if you could help me delist my subscription. Thank you in advance for whatever help you can extend to me. More power.Mabuhay and Filipinas and regards to all our kakabayans!

Please send our thanks to Mrs. Sol Jose Vanzi and all the PHNO volunteers for the life-like account on how the Centennial celebration was held in Manila. More power as always.
Even if what we are celebrating is an account of how we escape the clutches of Spaniards, it still is very touching.. Despite the prevailing feeling that we have not successfully escaped yet those of our US masters. Will we ever????

Just like to comment on your website. Why only limited news? You have only choosen only a few headlines yet I know there are plenty more. Is there a certain quota that you have to distribute or you don't want to let people Know what is really happening there. As if we North-American Filipinos don"t know or otherAmericans. Please extend your imformations.

----------------
Sol Vanzi's reply:
Dear Chara,
Thank you for your keen observations. We really would like to carry more news items on a daily basis, but are constrained by: time, energy and finances.
TIME - We are all volunteers, doing this on our free time. As it is, it takes me a couple of hours to gather and rewrite the news, often in the middle of the night, before I start my own real day of work. The same is true with my partners in Canada, who all have fulltime jobs and who take care in posting the news in our website, newsgroups, Pointcast Network and our mailing list.
FINANCES - Because our Mailing list service is free and we get no income from giving this service away, the mail service provider we are currently able to afford allows us only to Email a limited number of items to a limited number of mailing list subscribers. The more subscribers we get, and the more news items, the bigger is the bill we have to foot.
So far, we have been personally able to subsidize this service, and hope to be able to continue doing so for as long as we can.
Our news service is not meant to be a substitute for the excellent webpages offered by Manila's daily newspapers: the Bulletin (www.mb.com.ph) , Inquirer (www.inquirer.net), Star (www.philstar.com) and Manila Times(www.manilatimes.com.ph).
PHNO is merely to keep you abreast with what's happening, generally, without having too spend too much time searching and reading. That's the key to our service: NEWSFLASH.
And if you have any specific or more detailed inquiries, feel free to Email me and I will research the story or news item for you.
As to any suggestion of bias, or attempts to keep some of the news unreported, we believe our readers have observed over the past 10 months that we've tried to maintain balance in our news reporting, carrying as many sides of the story as possible.
Thank you for your comments and continued patronage.

Evangeline Guevarra <EGuevarra@cgnet.com>
San Pablo, Laguna Philippines - Friday, June 05, 1998 at 22:55:22 (EDT)
---------------------
Sol Vanzi's reply:
We would like to oblige, but that would really defeat the purpose of our NEWSFLASH format: quick, short news reports that download in a flash.
As soon as we can figure out how to finance it without charging our readers, we could start another webpage dedicated mainly to photographs relevant to our stories of the day. That way, those who want to see the photos can see them, while those in a rush to read the news will not be burdened or slowed down by the delay caused by the photos and other visuals.
Fingers crossed!

Just want to congratulate your partner in the Philippines and your coordinated work in bringing us all the good news from our country. Keep it up folks, we are made closer to home everytime we read good news about our country. Can I also subscribe for those nice news you have. I tried to write to Sol on her e-mail but got no reply, I just took it as her being busy or just wants to be picky as to who she answers. How long before you remove the signed guest list from your guest book? I had a friend who signed with your guestbook and he is nolonger on your list. Is there any answer or is this your style also. Thanks. I will pay for your subscription if you tell me how much.

I am terribly sorry that you did not get a reply from me. I do not know what happened to your email, but I did not get it. Our other readers will attest to the fact that we at PHNO try to answer our email as fast as possible. We even go as far as making long distance calls to provinces and towns here in the Philippines merely to verify facts to answwer queries from our readers.
Whatever your query was in that "lost" email, please resend it and we assure you of a prompt reply.
As to subscription to our news service, it is free. Our partner in Canada will include your name on our mail list.
Thank you for your patronage and we hope to be of service to you in the future.

Webmaster's Reply:
For some unknown reason, we lost the guestbook entries from May 1-19, 1998. Fortunately, I had a backup and so I was able to restore them. Your friend's entry must be back already-- check it out. Thank you for pointing the problem to us.

My thanks to Sol Jose Vanzi for correcting history. The people of Imus, Cavite, particularly of barrio Alapan, shall be indebted to her for correctly identifying the barrio as the site of the first public display of the Philippine flag, after the revolutionary victory at the Battle of Alapan. While I am from the neighboring barrio of Pag-asa (formerly Tinabunan) in Imus, Cavite, my father is from Alapan. I still remember my grandfather, Crisanto Candalla, as a participant in one of those revolutionary parades they held annually every May 28th, in celebration of that victory. Again, my thanks to Sol fo a job well and worthly done!

Sol Vanzi's reply:
Dear Belen,
We are planning to carry the daily (Monday to Friday) peso-dollar exchange rate on our frontpage, the first frame you see when you visit the website, right where the Lotto results are now. We intend to remove the Lotto and replace it with the Peso-Dollar rate.
Hopefully, the change would be carried out by June.
We are all volunteers carrying out this website on a daily basis so any changes have to wait for weekends when we can devote more extra time for the news service.
Thank you for your continued patronage and for your invaluable suggestions.

As to the elections, it is now a foregone conclusion that Estrada and Macapagal-Arroyo have won as President and Vice President. Our last NAMFREL unoficial update on the winning senatorial candidates will be updated as soon as Comelec finishes its own official canvass.

Gratulations on you good work. It gives us an up-to-date election results though unofficial. I am disappointed though that I could not get any detailed results on congressional & council results in Manila and Quezon City.

Quezon City, MetroManila Philippines - Monday, May 18, 1998 at 10:01:12 (EDT)
--------------------
Sol Vanzi's reply:
The results are coming in trickles and fragments. There are too many protests, ballot-counting stopped, etc. With councilors, even the major newspapers are not yet reporting them completely. These are the days when we wish the major political parties have efficient web pages where they can post the names and positions of each party's winning candidates.
PHNO Manila Editorial Office

You folks should post detailed listings of all the winners of the election. I think it is only fair for everybody abroad to have first hand access of the winning candidates, at least their names, titles, and hometown.

Thank you so much for you guys who are responsible for the Philippine news information we receive daily from the web.I don't have to spend much time deciphering important events in various newspapers of what's going on in the Philippines;the contents are short but accurate. Summarized to the point. Allow me to bid you the longest success in building such innovation for the benefit of the Filipino citizens specially the one's outside of the Philippines, in keeping us abreast with important top story headlines. Mabuhay and best wishes!

I have found your political coverage invaluable to my work as an equity research analyst. Mrs Vanzi usually delivers the stories which I get off of other subscription news services a day or two before them. Anyone who follows the market should start their morning with the PHNO. Keep up the great work!

A lot of people were very upset and almost criedd about the news of his death. Thank you very much for your time reading this tsismis from Virginia..God bless us all...

TO PHNO STAFF: You're doing just great. The news I get from this webpage is more faster than the news from the cable. You had reported before about the Philpost not paying the PAL, no wonder until now I couldn't received a single note from Philippines. Would you please look into this matter again. I think something is wrong about the system. I always believed in the power of the press. Your aggressiveness in news reporting will make a lot of difference in peoples' live. Thank you for the job well done and more power.
