MANILA, MARCH 22, 2008
(MANILA TIMES) HI! SOCIETY By Becky Garcia - Boholís new tourism magnet, The Peacock Garden Luxury Resort and Spa was recently inaugurated. Secretary Ace Durano of Tourism flew in from Cebu to formally open the provinceís newest upscale resort destination, along with Department of Tourism regional director Dawnie Roa and other high ranking local government officials led by Gov. Erico Aumentado, Rep. Edgar Chatto, Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Neri Lim, and The Peacock Gardenís visionary owners, Hans and Lani Schoof. Monsignor Leonardo Medroso, Bishop of the Diocese of Tagbilaran, officiated the blessing rites.

Nestled on a promontory overlooking the Bohol Sea, the Peacock Garden is situated in Upper Laya, Baclayon, a tranquil and picturesque town only 15-minutes away from Tagbilaran City. The 40 tastefully furnished guests rooms done in the style of 18th century German architecture are housed in three detached villas. Each room is equipped with modern amenities like air-conditioning, TV and DVD player, mini-bar, direct-dial telephone and Internet connection. A fourth villa, now almost constructed, will open before the yearend to house the Roman spa. Fronting it is the huge infinity pool and an outdoor Jacuzzi.

The Peacock Garden has three dining outlets. Old Heidelberg is the main restaurant that serves the best of German and Continental cuisine amid the old world charm of 18th century Germany. The adjacent Hemingway Lounge with a well-stocked wine cellar and cozy leather sofas is a haven for the discerning wine connoisseur. And for a more relaxed and casual ambience, there is the Peacock Room where a hearty breakfast is served that includes freshly-baked breads and pastries from the kitchen managed by young German chef Christian Biechele.

Ranking local officials and business and social luminaries of Bohol, as well as friends of the Schoofs from Manila graced the inaugural event. Among them were Mayor Alvin Uy of Baclayon, Albuquerque Mayor Joe Ugduracion, Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Norris Oculam, businessman Dennies Pascual Chu of Dunkiní Donuts, noted plastic surgeon Dr. Jorge and May Neri, Evelyn Witte of Aloha Kew Resort in Panglao, Perla Rempe of the Farm at San Benito, C.F. Sharpís Uwe and Carol Hesse. Film and recording stars Jericho Rosales, Rachel Alejandro, Pilita Corrales, Bayani Agbayani and Sunshine Cruz entertained the guests. A spectacular 15-minute fireworks show capped the event.
