FAIRY TALES  HIGHLIGHT  BALLET  MANILA'S  YULETIDE  PRESENTATION

MANILA, NOVEMBER 28, 2007  (MALAYA) Pinocchio’s great adventure is featured this holiday season as Ballet Manila (BM) gives life to the fairytale onstage from December 7-9 and 14-16 at the Aliw Theater in Star City.

It will be presented by dancers Alvin Santos alternating with Roduardo Ma with cast members: Sofia Sangco and Yanti Marduli as Jiminy Cricket; Jonathan Janolo as Gepettto; Zaira Cosico and Eileen Lopez as the Blue Fairy; Francis Cascaño and Harold Salgado as the Fox; Sarah Abigail Cruz and Bea Castañeda as the Cat; Marcus Tolentino as Stromboli and the entire BM company of dancers. Chroreography is by BM’s artistic associate and ballet master Osias Barroso.

To open the program Lisa Macuja Elizalde, BM artistic director, leads the cast in another Barroso creation, Sonata, which had its world premiere at the Music, Trio, Magic concert with London-based pianist Olga Dudnik and violinist Robert Atchison. Commissioned to celebrate the birth centennial of composer Edward Elgar, the Sonata reprise features Macuja with partner Rudy de Dios and the BM company. Choreographed to the music of Elgar’s Sonata in E minor opus 82, it signals Barroso’s evolution from dancer and teacher to one of the most promising classical choreographers of his generation.

As another treat this Yuletide season, repeat performances of the Nutcracker will be held at 5 p.m. on December 11-13 at the Star Theater, Star City Complex, Roxas Blvd., Pasay City. It tells a story of a little girl who falls in love with a nutcracker doll on Christmas Eve.

"Two theaters, two ballets, two magical tales transformed into dance, why hold back on the fun and spectacle," says Macuja Elizalde.
