DOT EYES MORE TOURISTS FROM EUROPE
MANILA, NOVEMBER 19, 2007 (STAR) By Mayen Jaymalin - The Department of Tourism (DOT) plans to mount intensive marketing missions to attract more tourists next year, particularly sports lovers from various European countries.
Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace Durano said this early, the DOT is already working on its marketing plan.
“We are taking a more assertive role in pushing our beaches and aqua sports attractions to the European traveler,” Durano said.
He said DOT’s marketing rally to Europe in 2008 will begin with the biggest dive show in France Salon de la Plongee sous-Marine in Paris from Jan. 11 to 14.
Durano said DOT is also set to join Germany’s Boot Show, the leading water sports exhibit in Europe, that will be staged in Dusseldorf from Jan. 19 to 28.
Durano added that DOT will also attend similar events in Italy, United Kingdom, Spain, Netherlands and Scandinavia in the first quarter of 2008.
Aside from programs designed to attract more than 200,000 European tourists in 2008, the DOT will also participate in the Moscow International Dive Festival from Feb. 14 to 17 to capture the growing adventure tourists market in Russia.
Durano called on the travel industry to join the DOT’s marketing missions.
