MANILA, SEPTEMBER 4, 2006 (STAR) By Julie Cabatit-Alegre - Twenty-seven new salad recipes, 11 recipes for fish, and 12 new recipes for monggo. Coming up with these many new recipes is all part of an ordinary day’s work for Lorraine Timbol-Aguado, food activation consultant for Unilever Phils. Lorraine manages the five test kitchens of Unilever on UN Avenue.

For the press lunch to launch the new campaign "Knorr Your Future," the buffet table groaned with her culinary creations with interesting titles, such as Ipagmamayabang Yin and Yang Soup, Trip na Trip Tinolang Halaan sa Kamias, Crablets with Chile-Adobo Sauce Indulgence, Monggo Sizzle with Tinapa, GG Fantasy, Award-Winning Adobong Pinoy, Asian Noodle Guisado Gimmick, and Meatcharon Rice and Shine.

"We aim for joyful nutrition," Lorraine says.

Joyful nutrition?

Lorraine explains, "When you speak of nutrition, you usually think of food that is unexciting. Joyful nutrition simply means that your dishes are not only nutritious, but they are also delicious. They can be enjoyed even by your kids. That makes them special."

Take, for example, the lowly galungong. Lorraine’s GG Fantasy calls for a two-step process whereby the fish is first allowed to simmer in a broth of water, strip of pork fat, dried kamias, freshly ground black pepper, pandan leaves, and Knorr meaty seasoning mix. The fish is then deep-fried, after which the broth is poured over the fish and allowed to reduce and thicken. The dish is then ready to serve, for a nutritious and joyful meal.

"I think of it as a musical composition," Lorraine explains. "I first compose the new dish in my head, and then I get the ingredients."

Lorraine, who hails from a Kapampangan family of cooks, says, "Some say that it is best to do everything from scratch, but even chefs use kitchen aids, not as substitute for certain ingredients but to enhance the dish. The hero is still the cook. Knorr allows you to be creative. It also helps you cut down on cooking time."

And with the time you save, you are able to spend more time with your family and to engage in other activities. You have greater control of your life.

The preliminary draw for the "Knorr Your Future Raffle Promo" is on Sept. 23, in key cities in Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Deadline of submission of entries is on Sept. 15. The winner of each area of coverage should be a resident of that area.

Non-winning entries in the preliminary draw are automatically eligible for the grand draw, which will be held in Metro Manila on Nov. 18. To qualify for this draw, entries should be submitted on or before Nov. 4.

Here are two nutritious recipes using Knorr products.

Ipagmamayabang Yin And Yang Soup

1 pack Knorr hot and sour real Chinese soup

1 fresh egg

1/2 cup mixed vegetables (bean sprouts, sliced red and green bell peppers, carrots, and cabbage)

3 cloves garlic, crushed

1 medium-sized onion

3 pieces Chinese chorizo sliced

1/2 cup dried tengang daga, sliced, soaked in water and cut into strips

3 slices kikiam

Prepare Knorr hot and sour real Chinese soup according to package directions. Add one fresh egg. In a skillet, sauté garlic and onion, then mix in chorizo and kikiam. When cooked, add mixed vegetable and tengang daga. Then, slowly pour soup on sautéed mix. Serve piping hot.

Trip Na Trip Tinolang Halaan Sa Kamias

1 kilo halaan, cleaned

2 cloves garlic, crushed

1 medium-sized onion, sliced

2-inch ginger, sliced

5 cups water

1 pack Knorr sinigang sa kamias mix

dahon ng sili

In a saucepan, sauté garlic, onion, and ginger. Mix in halaan and pour water, together with Knorr sinigang sa kamias mix. Bring to a boil, then allow to simmer. Add sili leaves. Stir and serve.
