'SPIKE BOY' AT IT AGAIN, FILES PLUNDER RAPS VERSUS GMA
MANILA, October 13, 2005 (STAR) NEWS FEATURE By Mike Frialde - Despite being dismissed from last year’s presidential race, "Spike Boy" still has a few barbs left for President Arroyo.
The President was charged with treason and plunder before the Office of the Ombudsman yesterday by Elly Pamatong, a lawyer whom the Commission on Elections declared a "nuisance candidate" in last year’s presidential race.
In his 13-page complaint, Pamatong said Mrs. Arroyo is not immune from legal action because she is not the "lawfully sitting president," and that her "I’m sorry" speech on nationwide television did not legitimize her political status as an "impostor and usurper."
"Thus, by her own confessions, she impeached herself, so to speak," he said.
Malacañang said yesterday it would not comment on Pamatong’s complaint even as it maintained that the President did not commit any illegal acts.
Presidential Spokesman Ignacio Bunye said he is not aware of the details of Pamatong’s complaint, "but what we can say is that the President and the official family... are just doing their jobs."
Pamatong, who once had himself handcuffed to Comelec gates, said, "By her own admissions, she herself pleaded guilty and admitted the illegitimacy of her presidency. As such, there is no more need for any judicial process to find out who she is because, in effect, she told us she is an impostor and a usurper of the presidency of the Republic."
Pamatong said the presidency lawfully belongs to the late Fernando Poe Jr., who was "duly elected the nation’s 14th president by the Filipino people."
By making her televised public apology for alleged "lapses in judgment" in talking to a Comelec official during the last election, Mrs. Arroyo had already "pleaded guilty" to electoral fraud and the subversion of the sovereign will, he added.
Following her public apology, Mrs. Arroyo should have left Malacañang together with Vice President Noli de Castro, instead of clinging to her position, Pamatong said.
Earlier, Pamatong filed an impeachment complaint against De Castro at the House of Representatives for alleged betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Constitution.
As leader of Discovery Crusade of the Philippines, Pamatong is also leading a campaign to petition Washington to make the Philippines a part of the United States.
Pamatong was tagged as the mastermind of the "spike attack" that victimized motorists in EDSA and several Metro Manila roads earlier this year. — With Paolo Romero
