PILITA: ASIA'S QUEEN OF SONGS ENCHANTS CEBUANOS
CEBU CITY, January 2, 2005 (STAR) C‘EST CEBU By Honey Jarque Loop - The performer could not have wished for a better audience. The audience could not have hoped for a better performer.
It was a dream of an intimate concert of Cebu’s very own local girl, international entertainer Pilita Corrales, before the appreciative Cebuanos, entre familias y buenos amigos, simply a heaven-sent grand night for singing and more.
The concert was beautifully organized con mucho cariño by an ideal committee of a small, well-meaning group of señoras con grandes corazones, namely Lulu Aboitiz, Teresin Mendezona, Amparito Lhuillier, Rosebud Sala, Carmen Campbell, Amelia La O, Lourdes Marquez, Julina Muertegui, and Annie Aboitiz.
Held at the city’s most appropriate venue, the newly-opened grand ballroom of the Casino Español de Cebu, la graciosa Pilita, who magnanimously and generously sang for free, entertained like no one else does, bringing smiles to people’s faces, rekindling memorable memories, all active supporters of the St. Joseph Foundation, the beneficiary of this show of the season.
Though informally started in 1983, feeding over 500 children under the care of the Mabolo Parish Church, the Foundation was founded in 1986 and has since established the St. Joseph Crochet, a livelihood project, in addition to its financial aid involvement in so many worthwhile activities, such as the scholarship programs at the University of the Philippines for high school and college students, the vocational school of Sacred Heart School, the Hospitallier Sisters to aid the mentally sick, several institutions run by the nuns of Mother Teresa, the Banilad Study Center, the Ermita Soup Kitchen and many others.
What an encuentro, the enchantress Pilita enchanted Cebuanos, all for a worthy cause.
