MARIKINA CELEBRATES 'SAPATERO' FESTIVAL
MANILA, October 22, 2004 (STAR) Now is the perfect time to explore Marikina City.
The "Sapatero Festival" in Marikina has gone on a successful run since it was started in 2002 under the capable leadership of Mayor Marides Fernando.
Now on its third year, the festival kicks off with a parade from the Marikina Freedom Park to a floating stage at River Park today. This also serves as the highlight for the grand opening of the Marikina Christmas Festival.
The "Sapatero Festival" will run from Oct. 22 to 23, leading to the Marikina Christmas Festival aimed at promoting local shoes and footwear both here and abroad.
The festival will showcase the talents of the Marikeņos in performing stand-up comedy. There will also be singing contests and live band performances.
The celebration also signals the opening of "Tiangge sa Ilog." The entire stretch of the river will be lined up with stalls selling clothes, toys, bags, home accessories and a lot more at affordable prices.
