PBA:  REALTORS  TURN  BACK  GIANTS

ANTIPOLO, MAY 13, 2007
(MALAYA) Jamaal Williams scored with 37 seconds remaining to lift St. Lucia to a 93-92 victory over Purefoods in the PBA Talk N Text-PBA Fiesta Conference last night at the Ynares Center here.

The Realtors snapped a five-game skid and joined the Giants in eighth spot at 4-9.

Williams finished with 32 points on 12-of-22 shooting and also hauled down 15 rebounds to lead the Realtors while Nelbert Omolon added 26 points. Rookie Kelly Williams chipped in 18 points.

"Iím so relieved," offered Sta. Lucia coach Boyet Fernandez.

"Even when the losses kept piling up I never lost my confidence in my players. But tonight I felt they played as a team."

With the Realtors trailing 91-92, Marlou Aquino took a shot from eight feet but missed.

Williams saved the day by grabbing the offensive rebound and scoring the go ahead basket.

It was a frustrating loss for the Giants, who appeared to have the game under control when James Yap knocked a three-pointer for an 88-81 lead with 3:34 to go.

But poor decision making, poor shot selection and bad plays down the stretch cost them the game.

Marquin Chandler turned in 40 points but couldnít make the big plays when they needed it. Even Yap, who had 20 points, failed to deliver in the stretch.

After taking the opening quarter by 27-24, the Realtors stretched the lead to 12 midway in the second quarter as Omolon, Williams and Norman Gonzales each knocked a three during a 15-6 run.

But the Giants, who went into the game hoping to snap a two-game slump, charged back behind Chandler and Rey Evangelista, who scored nine of his 11 points in the second quarter, as the Giants returned to their locker room with a 52-51 lead at halftime.
