MANILA, November 8, 2005 (MALAYA) RIVERMAYA, dubbed by its fans across the country as “Ang Banda ng Bayan,” launches a tribute to the Filipino athletes participating in the SEA Games 2005. The Philippines will be host country at the landmark sports event slated from November 27 to December 4.
Titled "Posible," this latest anthem from the country’s favorite band, was first played yesterday at 8 a.m. on the following radio stations: 99.5 RT, Mellow Touch 94.7, WRR 101.9, Jam 88.3, K-LITE 103.5, Energy FM, RX 93.1, NU 107, Magic 89.9, and Home Radio.
"’Posible’ is about courage, strength, and the commitment to be the best," said songwriter and Rivermaya frontman Rico Blanco. "These are qualities our Filipino athletes have in spades. This song was not only written for them – it was inspired by them."
Rivermaya is set to perform the song at glittering ceremonies to open the SEA Games 2005 at the Quirino Grandstand of the Luneta on Sunday, November 27. Selected to represent the best of Philippine music, Rivermaya will be the finale of a 2-hour musical extravaganza featuring the music of all the 11 participating Southeast Asian countries, from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Liste to Vietnam. The show will be broadcast live across Asia.
Rivermaya was recently named MTV Pilipinas Favorite Group 2005 as well as the Philippines’ Favorite Artist 2005 at the recent MTV Asia Awards held in Thailand earlier this year. The band returned from highly acclaimed back-to-back shows in Singapore just last week.
