MANILA, October 31, 2005
(STAR) By Mary Ann Ll. Reyes - Two of the country’s top telecommunications companies have forged a partnership in a bid to enhance their respective service offerings to their customers.

ePLDT, the information and communications technology (ICT) company of PLDT, recently signed a business partnership agreement with Lopez-owned Bayan Telecommunications (BayanTel) which will expand its menu of value-added services by offering some of the mobility solutions of e-PLDT such as Hosted Exchange and Mobile Exchange.

Hosted Exchange is a hosted e-mail solution that not only allows end-users to send and receive their corporate e-mail from practically any Internet-connected computer, but also enables them to access their calendar and share schedules and contact lists with other team members.

Mobile Exchange is a push-based mobile e-mail solution that provides the ability to conveniently access desktop e-mail from a mobile device, in real-time. It allows easy, fast, and highly secure access to one‚s existing corporate e-mail account through a compatible mobile phone or PDA.

ePLDT, on the other hand, expands the nationwide coverage of their content by expanding their Internet peering with BayanTel. Additionally, e-PLDT customers gain more choices in selecting their Telecom connectivity provider.

"Companies want flexibility in their choice of e-mail solutions. They need to be able to make quick decisions and respond immediately to important e-mails particularly those involving revenue generating transactions. By offering Hosted Exchange and Mobile Exchange we add value to our existing services, especially since we have a growing number of Internet subscribers," said BayanTel vice president for Product Development and Management Joevel Rivera.

BayanTel vice president for Corporate and Business Market Sherry Ann Supelana also added, "through this partnership with ePLDT, we can give more value to our customers and at the same time focus on our core business"

Tunde Fafunwa, BayanTel’s chief executive consultant, believes the partnership would not only benefit the two companies but also the industry and the country as well. "For BayanTel, it’s all about finding areas of cooperation with the other major players in the industry to enhance the country’s infrastructure and service levels into world class standards, and ultimately enable the Philippines to be a preferred location for investments in IT and ICT businesses."

ePLDT is likewise happy with the partnership. "We hope to expand this partnership in the future by providing more value-added services to Bayantel and their subscribers. With this partnership, we can only expect more growth opportunities for both ePLDT and BayanTel in the years to come," said President and CEO Ray C. Espinosa.

The contract signing ceremony was participated in by top executives from ePLDT led by President and CEO Ray Espinosa, COO and First Vice President Helen Marquez and Partner Management Group Head Gina Nebrida. BayanTel was represented by Chief Executive Consultant Tunde Fafunwa, Vice President for Product Development and Management Joevel Rivera, and Vice President for Corporate and Business Markets Sherry Ann Supelana.

ePLDT Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of PLDT, is an information and communications technology company providing enabling infrastructure and services focusing on next-generation communications, connectivity, content and VAS (value-added services) to corporate accounts and consumers.
