ABS-CBN WEBSITE HITS 1.2 MILLION PAGE VIEWS DURING MAY 10 POLL
MANILA, June 21, 2004 (BULLETIN) ABS-CBN’s website (www.abs-cbn.com) hit 1.2 million page views last May 11, the height of the election period. This was mainly due to the speed and efficiency of the website’s quick count, a joint effort with STI.
This success is attributed to ABS-CBN Interactive, the department which is responsible for any form of interactive media applied by the network. For Halalan 2004, ABS-CBN’s coverage of the election period, Interactive handled two important aspects in this network-wide effort. This consisted of updates on vote tallies through the Halalan 2004 website (www.abscbnnews.com/halalan), as well as instant information on election results through SMS messaging.
According to Eugene Paden, Director for Technology for ABS-CBN Interactive, hitting the 1.2 million mark during the peak of the election period came as no surprise, considering the competition provided by other quick counts. "This was one part of the overall effort by the network; every form of media was carefully planned in advance for Halalan 2004, and the technological aspect was prioritized," Paden says. Careful attention was given to the implementation and delivery of the program; much so that it was set to rely on automated maintenance, wherein human resource was used mainly for monitoring purposes.
The ABS-CBN quick count, according to Paden, gained 1.2 million page views due to these reasons. "The website is updated to the minute, so much so that it fluctuates constantly every hour. Also, the quick count is simply quicker and more efficient than the other quick counts. In fact, the website’s tally is up to par with the television updates, and at times even quicker."
