Vic: For the 1st time, I’ll have a normal Christmas

Vic Sotto

MANILA, DECEMBER 5, 2016 (INQUIRER) By: Allan Policarpio - Reporter / @InqEnt Philippine Daily Inquirer / 12:15 AM November 28, 2016

For the first time since 2001, the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) will not feature a movie topbilled by Vic Sotto.

But for Vic, “This could be a blessing in disguise. For the first time, I’ll have a normal Christmas.”

His movie, “Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers,” failed to make it to this year’s eight-film roster, which was put together by a new screening committee that prioritized substance over commercial viability.

Vic, however, had no regrets about his decision to push through with the said project. “I don’t regret anything. We have a good play date, which falls on a holiday (Nov. 30, Bonifacio Day),” he pointed out.

Initially he didn’t intend to enter a movie to this year’s MMFF, because he thought it would be nearly impossible given the recent change in the selection process. Producers were required to submit completed movies at a relatively earlier date (initially Sept. 30, which was moved to Oct. 31).

“I likewise heard that indie movies would be favored, so I told my partners that I wouldn’t make one, because I have no experience doing or producing one. Tapos medyo nagbago ang hangin. The way we understood it was that half of the lineup would be for indies and the other half would be mainstream—which, for me, didn’t sound right. They’re all movies,” he related.

The final MMFF lineup turned out to be dominated by productions that could be considered “indie.”

The kalyeserye Lolas (from left): Paolo Ballesteros, Wally Bayola and Jose Manalo

While he respects the decision of the selection committee, Vic—a perennial player in the annual event with his family-oriented, fantasy-adventure flicks—admitted that it “pained” him to see that the MMFF had seemingly disregarded the preference of the moviegoers, especially children, who, he said, prefer to watch lighthearted fare during the holiday season.

“I respect the taste of the committee… I don’t have anything personal against them. But I think that come Christmas time, most people and families tend to gravitate toward a particular type of movie,” he said at a recent press conference for “Enteng.”

“It’s one of the few times the kids get to choose what they want to see. I just hope the MMFF respected that, too, and included something for them,” added Vic, who this time plays a revamped version of his popular screen alter ego. Enteng is now an ironworks magnate up against a mysterious game application poised to wreak digital havoc.

“Enteng 10” cast (standing, from left): Jelson Bay, Paolo Ballesteros, Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola, Cacai Bautista; (seated, from left) Vic Sotto and Oyo Sotto

To further illustrate his point, he likened the situation to a noche buena table spread. “For example, at the dinner table, there would always be spaghetti. If you have money to spare, there would be queso de bola, ham, and perhaps even lechon. That’s what I think is the Filipino taste,” he said.

“It’s like replacing spaghetti with raclette (Swiss dish of cheese),” Vic quipped. “Don’t feed us something we don’t want to eat at noche buena.”

Asked about the perception of some people that indie automatically equates to quality, Vic reiterated that it all boils down to personal taste and choice.

“Whatever movie, we make sure that it’s done cleanly. We make sure that it’s beautiful to look at, that it caters to the entire family. It may not be up to some people’s standards, but that’s their opinion. And I respect that,” said Vic, who still plans to join the MMFF in the future, despite this recent snub.

Veteran actress Lolita Rodriguez passes away at 81, reports said Wednesday.

The acknowledged “Drama Queen of Philippine Cinema” died on November 28 at 9:40 am (California time), a report from PEP said. She suffered a stroke in September this year, it added.

Her real name is Lolita Marquez Clark, being the daughter of an American father, William Charles Clark and a Filipina, Carmen Marquez.

Miss Rodriguez was known as the original Lino Brocka baby and a favorite actress-workmate of Nora Aunor and Hilda Koronel, said an earlier Inquirer report.

Miss Rodriguez is known for her role as the town lunatic Kuala in Brocka’s landmark 1974 film, “Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang (Weigh but Found Wanting)”, which introduced then teenaged newbie, Christopher de Leon.

She was married to the late actor Eddie Arenas. They had three children.

Miss Rodriguez tried acting for theater. Also directed by Brocka, she played Paula and later as Candida in “Larawan,” the Filipino adaptation of Nick Joaquin’s “Portrait of the Artist as Filipino.” It was staged twice by the Philippine Education Theater Association in late 1968 and in the late 1970s.

Among her last films was Celso Ad. Castillo’s “Paradise Inn” in 1985, which was topbilled by sexy actress Vivian Velez, and Mel Chionglo’s “Lucia” in 1992.

Upon retirement, she shied away from the limelight and spent her remaining years in the United States.

One of her grandchildren is the multi-genre singer Radha Cuadrado.

In the same Inquirer report, Radha was quoted as saying: “She has a pretty active lifestyle in the United States.”

She also described her grandmother as “nurturing and thoughtful.”

“She would send me these super long, handwritten letters every so often. I relished her stories about the days she spent swimming and playing golf,” Radha added.

In the same report, Nora Aunor said: “She would stay and act with me even (in) my closeup. She didn’t have to, but she supported her costars in their own dramatic ‘moments’. She brought out the best in everyone she worked with.”

Details of interment are yet to be announced by the family as of posting. TVJ

Usher in Christmas with Bea Alonzo’s DIY Christmas gift ideas posted November 28, 2016 at 05:40 pm by Isah V. Red

Bea Alonzo (center) as the face of Fujifilm’s line of mirrorless cameras

One knows that the Christmas season is upon us when the radio starts playing Yuletide songs, malls are decked with holiday decorations, and people start making Christmas gift lists.

Christmas is all about making memories. With FUJIFILM’s instax cameras, it is now possible to preserve them and have physical copies of moments spent with friends and family.

Fujifilm brand ambassador Bea Alonzo knows the importance of spreading holiday cheer and sharing her blessings. On screen, she makes it a point to always deliver a good performance. Away from the spotlight, she is a great believer that you best learn about the world when you travel. Bea comes from a small family, with only one sibling but like most Filipino families, she has uncles and aunts and nephews and nieces. She has explored the many beautiful spots in the country with them.

But when Bea wants time for herself, she goes on travel adventures on her own, solo flight. In all these little expeditions, she never forgets to bring her FUJIFILM mirrorless cameras with her, particularly the X-A2 and X-A3. The X-A2 and X-A3 are both lightweight and thus easy to carry around. “A camera phone is not enough,” says Bea. “Tayong mga tao nakakalimot. Maganda na may isang bagay na nagre-remind sa atin ng mga magagandang alaala.”

The X-A2 allows users to capture important moments with superb image quality that FUJIFILM’s X-Series is known for while the X-A3 comes with a retro design that is fashionable and a hit with the younger set.

Recently, Bea has grown to love the instax cameras. “I am learning to appreciate scrapbooking,” Bea shares. “Or I can hang the prints on the walls of my room or I can deposit them in a box.”

With the launch of FUJIFILM’s Photo Diary, Bea can look forward to having her photos gathered together into an album, properly selected and labeled, and accomplished in minutes. Developed through FUJIFILM’s Image Organizing Technology, it makes possible owning your own coffee table book instead of the traditional photo album. It is not bulky and can be tagged along everywhere, a constant reminder of moments well spent.

With Christmas fast approaching, you can take Bea’s word for it. It is best to give our loved ones gifts that we ourselves thought of and spent time working on.

Try the following DIY Christmas gift ideas that Bea highly recommends:

Make a calendar. Use your instax to take snaps of whatever catches your fancy or moments that are fleeting. You can also print them using the instax Share SP-2 printer. The Share SP-2 lets you edit your photos first before you print them. The next thing to do is to attach the instax prints to a store-bought calendar. Also try to write on the margins of every page memorable lines from popular Bea Alonzo films like One More Chance and A Second Chance.

Mark it with a bookmark. Books don’t grow old. They function not only as a physical copy of stories with characters, lines, and moments that we carry with us as we go through our lives. If the person you’re thinking of giving a present to is a big Paulo Coelho fan like Bea, why not take a photo of a river (one of the Portuguese writer’s books is entitled “By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept”) with your instax and embellish it with the print?

Kapamilya actress Bea Alonzo recommends gift ideas to make family and friends feel special this holiday season

Create a wine tasting journal with instax photos. Wines are never missing at Christmas parties. Start by choosing well-loved wines. Take photos of bottles, labels, etc. with your instax. Attach the photos to pages in a notebook, and write down flavors, aromas, vintage and regions.

Delight with a hanging mobile with instax photos. Liven up the room of a gift recipient with a hanging mobile decorated with instax photos. Add text and embellishments on the photos as you wish, and then clip or tape the photos to strings. Tie the strings to the sticks and hang the completed mobile from the ceiling.

Congressman Albee Benitez has a surprise Christmas gift to his constituents. His office confirmed that the Negros Occidental representative is putting up Enchanted Kingdom in Silay City. He said the amusement park will start operations before the end of 2017.

This is good news to all Negrenses and those living in nearby island provinces as they don’t have to travel to Manila to experience the fun one gets in an amusement park.

Negros Occidental, 3rd District Representative Alfredo “Albee” Benitez

The total cost of the Silay branch of Enchanted Kingdom is more than P600 million.

Apart from making his constituents happy, the park also puts Silay in the Philippine tourism map as a new destination among Ilonggos and Visayans.

Also, the Negrenses don’t have to travel far to either Hong Kong or Tokyo or China to experience the fun in an amusement park, like Disneyland and Ocean Park.

Congressman Benitez has also been invited by park operators in London who want him to put up something similar to their parks in Negros. That’s why he is rushing the completion of Enchanted Kingdom in Silay.

Baron Geisler claims he sought permission to urinate on fellow actor Published November 29, 2016 5:18am

In a seven-minute long video posted in his Facebook account, actor Baron Geisler disputed accusations that he had abused fellow actor Ping Medina by suddenly and inexplicably urinating on Medina during the filming of a movie.

"Unang-una, Ping, nagpaalam ako sa iyo," said Geisler. "Miss direk Arlyn [dela Cruz], nagpaalam po ako sa inyo dun sa gagawin ko... Nagpaalam ako sa inyo, three times or more!"

Geisler also claimed that his attempts to seek permission from both Medina and dela Cruz were recorded because there were several cameras filming even before the scene had started.

He had even quickly apologized to Medina after the scene, and this was recorded as well. "Pwera lang kung binura niyo," he however added.

He also argued that he had urinated on Medina, who was gagged and bound for their scene, because he was improvising on his character as per the environment in the filming. "They all think I'm bastos actor. Eh, hindi nila alam, si direk miso magbubulong, 'O, para magulat saktan mo ng kaunti,'" said Geisler.

He added that he had nothing but respect for Medina, having openly called him his "idol." He also denied being drunk during filming, and at one point, had even asked if Medina could be allowed to sit because he was aware the fettered actor was uncomfortable.

As for the calls for him to blackballed, Geisler responded, "Kung ayaw niyo ako sa industria sabihin niyo sa akin. OK lang. I will move on. Dahil hindi lang naman ito ang buhay ko."

While he said that he still loved and respected his detractors, the actor nevertheless called them liars and black-hearted fakes, and even suggested that they "lawyer-up" and pray.

"Kasi gusto niyo lang kumita, at magkaroon ng ingay at pangalan. Pero huwag niyo sana gamitin ang pangalan ko. Lalaban ako. Magkitakita tayo kung saan. Totoo 'to," Geisler warned. — DVM, GMA News

Ping Medina says he broke hand in anger after Baron Geisler peed on him during scene Published November 28, 2016 10:24pm

PING MEDINA FACEBOOK PHOTO

Actor Ping Medina took to Facebook to express his fury at co-star Baron Geisler for peeing on him during a scene, leading to Ping breaking his hand in anger after the incident.

Ping posted a photo of himself giving a dirty finger with his heavily-wrapped right hand, along with a lengthy rant describing the incident.

The actor described how he had a talk with Baron about the latter supposedly staying off alcohol during the shoot. Ping said they had a good heart-to-heart talk, even giving his co-actor advice about his career.

Baron later asked him for money supposedly for food, but bought beer instead.

" The next day, gabi pa ang mga eksena ko. Nadatnan kita sa set na medyo mabagal pa rin ang salita. At yun nga: may hawak kang beer. O akala ko ba hindi ka iinom?" Ping wrote.

After rehearsing lines, Ping said Baron became agitated after a scene.

"Pagkatapos nun ay nalaman ko sa staff na nagtatanong ka pala sa kanila kung 'si Ping ba ang bida dito?'" Ping wrote.

"Obviously, di ka nagbasa ng script. Pero direk and I tried to pacify you. Tinawag ka pa ni direk na bida contrabida. At ako sinakyan ko na lang. Dahil lasing ka na at gusto ko na lang tapusin ang gabi."

Describing their big scene, Ping said his mouth was taped and his arms wrapped. Before the scene commenced, Ping said Baron whispered to him: "May gagawin ako sayo Ping ah. Sana wag ka magalit."

During the take, Ping said Baron started peeing on him.

At the end of the take, Ping said he couldn't help but punch the walls of a cargo container, breaking his hand in the process.

Afterwards, Ping said he challenged Baron to a fight. " Pero nakita ko na hindi siya lalaban. Wala akong interes na bumugbog sa walang kalaban laban," Ping wrote.

'Unacceptable'

In an earlier post, the director of the move Arlyn dela Cruz opened up about the incident.

"What you did on the set, for the film BUBOG is unacceptable and cannot be justified by any claim of being in character," she wrote.

"Ping Medina does not deserve what you did. No actor deserves that. No person deserves that."

She said she already killed off Baron's character in the movie after the incident.

Misunderstanding

In his own Facebook post, Baron described the incident as a "misunderstanding."

"Good afternoon po direk. Sorry. Pero you and i both know na malaking misunderstanding po ang lahat. I asked you three times na direk may gagawin po ako then you just said gawin mo nalang sa eksena," he wrote.

"Kung tinanong nyo po ako kung ano yun di sana naiwasan ang mga bagay na ito. You are our captain sa set. You can check the bts for proof kung bastos ako towards anyone. Wala po. May proof." —JST, GMA News

‘Overwhelmed’ Kim Kardashian West ‘Very Worried About the Kids Being Around Kanye’ as He Remains Hospitalized

NOVEMBER 30 - Kanye West Still In Recovery, the only person he trusts Kim

As Kanye West remains under heavy medical supervision, his wife Kim Kardashian West remains a constant presence by his bedside.

“The kids have not visited. Kim has been there,” a source close to the situation tells PEOPLE. Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA, where West is being treated, allows children to visit with adult accompaniment and patient permission.

Though supportive, a Kardashian family insider says that the episode has left Kim, 36, feeling “overwhelmed” and concerned about West’s relationship with their children, North, 3, and Saint, 11 months.

“She is very worried about the kids being around Kanye,” another source close to the family tells PEOPLE.

West, 39, was hospitalized for exhaustion and sleep deprivation shortly after he canceled the remaining dates of his Saint Pablo tour last Monday, and remained there over the Thanksgiving holiday.

“The only person Kanye trusts is Kim,” a source previously told PEOPLE. “Kim does spend hours with Kanye every day. She says that Kanye is on many different medications and that his doctors are figuring out proper doses. Kim says that not much has changed since he was admitted and that his doctors seem concerned.”

An additional source elaborated that West generally has “big ups and big downs, but this bout seems to be much more serious. In the hospital he has been very paranoid and is under constant watch for his safety.”

PEOPLE’s insider adds, “He’s still there because clearly he’s not doing well.”

However, a source close to West told PEOPLE that a recent update was a positive one. “They tell me he’s doing good,” the source said, adding that “he’s been really eager to make music and to work even from the hospital bed.”

In regard to questions about the rapper’s mental state, the West source said that his mental health is “very private,” and “between him and his family.”

Kanye West Released From the Hospital

VIDEO SCREEGRAB

Kanye West has been released from the hospital after spending nine days at UCLA Medical Centre.

Earlier this week, a source close to the 39-year-old rapper and his wife, Kim Kardashian West, told ET that doctors were "reluctant to diagnose anything," though Kanye was said to be "doing much better" after being hospitalised on Nov. 21. Through it all, the source said, Kim had stayed by his side "24/7" as he recovered.

"Kim is more dedicated and devoted to Kanye more than ever," a source said.

"She knows that there are limitations for how much a person can do or take on. She knows that he just needs a break, and she will make sure he gets that. This is only making their marriage stronger."

A source previously confirmed to ET that West was at personal trainer Harley Pasternak's home at the time he was hospitalised, where he was "strongly convinced to go to the hospital for his own well-being and safety." Despite reports that West allegedly attempted to assault a staff member at Pasternak's gym before his hospitalisation, another source close to West told ET, "[There was] no assault, no fight."

Kanye suffered from what one source attributed to "sleep deprivation and exhaustion," and another source called "a mental breakdown." "It was a combination of a lot of issues: stress, anxiety, paranoia. He just broke," the source told ET. "There have been signs recently of him just overwhelmed. Kanye hasn't been himself for a while." In addition to a strenuous work schedule, a source also told ET that Kanye had been deeply "unsettled" by his wife's terrifying armed robbery in Paris.

Prior to the hospitalization, Kanye had been making headlines for erratic behaviour at his latest shows, including going on a lengthy rant in which he took shots at longtime friends Beyonce and Jay Z. The "Fade" rapper abruptly cancelled the 21 remaining dates on his Saint Pablo tour on Monday.

ET spoke to Kanye's close pal, John Legend, on Monday while he was promoting his new album, Darkness and Light, and Legend noted that the GRAMMY-winning rapper has "been through a lot lately."

"All I can see is what [Kanye] said to the public -- and that is he's tired and needs some rest," Legend said before news broke that Kanye had been hospitalized. "I think he's been through a lot lately with what happened to Kim. I think if he needs to rest, I think his fans will be patient and let him rest. He'll come back stronger, hopefully."

Kanye West Living Apart from ‘Concerned’ Kim Kardashian for Medical Reasons: Source BY MELODY CHIU•@CHIUMELO  POSTED ON DECEMBER 2, 2016 AT 3:10PM EST

Kanye West is out of the hospital, but the rapper is not back home with his wife Kim Kardashian West and their two children.

A source close to the family tells PEOPLE the entertainer, 39, is living apart from his family for the time being and continuing treatment for undisclosed mental health issues after leaving UCLA’s Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital earlier this week. X17 was first to report the news.

“He is receiving outpatient care somewhere else with a medical team,” says the source. “Kim still seems concerned but is supportive. They don’t know for how long Kanye will need outpatient care.”

Though Kardashian West, 36, was a constant presence by her husband’s bedside while he remained hospitalized, an insider told PEOPLE she was “overwhelmed” by the situation and concerned about West’s relationship with their children, North, 3, and Saint, 11 months.

“She is very worried about the kids being around Kanye,” said the insider, who added that the children had not accompanied Kardashian West to visit their father. However, another Kardashian source said the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star — who threw an early birthday party for Saint on Wednesday after West left the hospital — was standing by her man.

“There are frustrations and problems, like any relationship, but they love each other deeply,” said the Kardashian source.

West’s hospitalization first began shortly after he canceled the remaining dates of his Saint Pablo tour and carried over the Thanksgiving holiday.
