KRIS ON 'EPIC SNUB': IT IS GOOD TO BE THE UNDERDOG

NOVEMBER 15 -Kris Aquino: A big surprise coming up soon
Four days after Pres. DU30 was prevented by, according to Malacañang, an attack of “migraine” from showing up at the launch of TV5’s Go Negosyo last Friday in Davao City, the presidential turf, show host Kris Aquino has learned to shrug off what she described as an “epic snub.” Perhaps it was a humbling experience for the still-reigning Queen of All Media who revealed that she went on a crash diet for what would have been a “historic” encounter between the former First Sister and the country’s first loose-tongued president who must have been really tired after arriving the night from a visit to Malaysia (with side trip to Bangkok to pay his respects for the late Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej). Kris on ‘epic snub’: It is good to be the underdog

Kris Aquino: A big surprise coming up soon

MANILA, NOVEMBER 21, 2016 (PHILSTAR)  FUNFARE By Ricky Lo November 15, 2016 - Curtain-raisers:

LOLIT SOLIS

• Now it can be told: It was me, as a new board member of the body behind the Walk of Fame (pet project of the late German “Kuya Germs” Moreno), who nominated Lolit Solis (photo) as one of the honorees at the event set for Dec. 1 at Eastwood City, Libis, Quezon City. I felt sad that Lolit politely declined (“To avoid controversy,” she said) and nominated Ethel Ramos (Dean of Movie Reporters) who also politely declined. Anyway, like other Kapuso talents, Lolit has already been “immortalized” on the (Side)Walk of Fame around the GMA Studios. “Tama na ‘yon,” said the co-host of the sorely-missed Startalk (hu-hu-hu!!!).

• The whole industry is looking forward with bated breath to the announcement on Friday, Nov. 18, of the Magic 8 official entries to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). More than 30 films have been submitted for consideration and have already been previewed by the MMFF Screening Committee. For sure, producers of eight lucky entries will jump with joy while the rest will shed quiet tears (or, knock on wood, raise a howl of protest).

• Could it be true that the ex-actress-girlfriend of a popular action-drama actor is expecting their second child (the first is an aspiring actor)? This piece of (good) news must come as a surprise to those close to the un-couple who know that the actor has been linked to a few women after he broke up with his legal wife. Remember the case of Paolo Paraiso and Mylene Dizon who had their second child after their separation? That’s what happens between the action-drama actor and his ex-girlfriend who comes to visit every now and then from abroad where she lives.

Four days after Pres. DU30 was prevented by, according to Malacañang, an attack of “migraine” from showing up at the launch of TV5’s Go Negosyo last Friday in Davao City, the presidential turf, show host Kris Aquino has learned to shrug off what she described as an “epic snub.”

Perhaps it was a humbling experience for the still-reigning Queen of All Media who revealed that she went on a crash diet for what would have been a “historic” encounter between the former First Sister and the country’s first loose-tongued president who must have been really tired after arriving the night from a visit to Malaysia (with side trip to Bangkok to pay his respects for the late Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej).

“It is good to be the underdog,” Kris texted Funfare yesterday, probably hoping (as she wished on that TV5 show that she managed to host with her usual unique style) that someday, somehow, “President Duterte, please give me a chance. I hope one day, mamahalin mo rin ako.”

Did the “epic snub” so affected Kris that, as she hinted on her Instagram the other day, she might again go on an extended vacation abroad with her sons? “I will give them time to miss me,” she posted.

BIG SURPRISE

Happily, Kris will remain at home. She is set to spring a big surprise on everybody with a “big announcement” (a big “comeback,” sort of) about her maiden venture with Tony “Mr. T” Tuviera who is co-managing her with her soul mate Boy Abunda (he takes care of Kris’ endorsements).

Okay, we will let Kris make us “miss” her until that “epic” event that, promise, will “stun” us.

Until then, Dear Kris!

A must-watch old-fashioned romance movie Vin Abrenica plays dual roles in Gil M. Portes’ Moon Over Baler, with Sophie Albert (left) and Elizabeth Oropesa (right) I hope (against hope?) that T-Rex’s Moon Over Baler, directed by Gil M. Portes after the recent critically-successful Hermano Puli (starring Aljur Abrenica) will make it to the 2016 MMFF’s Magic 8.

Gil invited a few friends to a preview of the movie last week. Personally, I found Moon Over Baler so beautiful and so moving because of its old-fashioned romance story about young lovers (played by Vin Abrenica and his girlfriend Sophie Albert) whose wedding doesn’t push through since the man never comes back (presumed to have been killed). Years later, a young Japanese journalist (also played by Vin) visits Baler (setting of the movie) and he reminds the frustrated war bride (now played by Elizabeth Oropeza) of her lost lover.

“Elizabeth’s character never married,” related Gil. “The character is based on the life of my aunt who died a spinster at 92 only three years ago.”

The ever dependable Elizabeth gives what could be one of her most memorable performances — if not the most memorable. If and when Moon Over Baler (made more nostalgic by the musical scoring and the breathtaking Baler scenery) makes it to the MMFF, I bet Elizabeth would run away with the Best Actress plum.

The role was first offered to Celeste Legaspi, then to Gloria Diaz and then to Coney Reyes who were busy with other commitments. With her award-worthy performance, Elizabeth turned out to be the best choice, after all.

Malacañang on Sunday said President Rodrigo Duterte did not intentionally skip his interview with television host-actress Kris Aquino.

Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said even the presidential communications team was ready to cover the event last Friday in Davao City, which was skipped by Duterte due to migraine.

“The Presidential Communications Operations Office was ready and are covering the entire event. The PTV-4, RTVM, Radyo ng Bayan, the protocol office were all there and we were also anticipating the guesting of the President or attending the event. And it’s just unfortunate that he was not able to attend,” Andanar said over radio DZBB.

“There was no intention to snub Kris Aquino. Again, ulitin ko po, the alter ego of the President at the Department of Trade and Industry, Secretary Mon Lopez is there, he’s the one who spoke on behalf of the President,” he added.

READ: First date: Duterte no-show in interview with Kris

Andanar noted that “the whole force of the government” supported the program, which was a summit of micro, small and medium enterprises in the President’s hometown.

The cancelled interview was supposed to mark Aquino’s television hosting comeback, months after leaving ABS-CBN. Officials said Duterte, who arrived from a visit to Thailand and Malaysia on Friday, was not feeling well.

Aquino, sister of Duterte’s predecessor Benigno Aquino III, made light of the President’s non-appearance, saying that first dates don’t always push through and that she was hoping Duterte will give her a chance.

On Instagram, Aquino said she was “humble and realistic enough to admit it was an epic snub.”

“P.S. To all of you: my family, friends, and compassionate netizens- group hug tayo? Thank you for showing me love and appreciation,” she wrote in the caption of a graphic of the phrase “If life gives you lemons, make lemonade” and screenshots of articles about netizens praising her hosting. Duterte grants Robin Padilla absolute pardon Published November 15, 2016 8:11pm Updated November 15, 2016 9:07pm By TRISHA MACAS, GMA News

President Rodrigo Duterte has granted actor Robin Padilla absolute pardon after their meeting on Tuesday in Malacañang.

Duterte confirmed the development in a dinner with reporters.

“I just granted pardon in favor of Robin Padilla kasi yung original pardon niya hindi sinabi yung full restoration ng political and civil rights therefore he could not trravel, he could not get a permit… to possess a gun again. I really do not know the dimension of of what is meant by deprivation of political and human rights. "Ang crime na 'yan, walang nasaktan... He suffered enough I think. Eh, kung bitawan mo lang 'yung tao sa labas, give him the rights... Makaboto, maka-travel whatever to enjoy. He can apply for a gun license because full civil and political rights, eh," Duterte explained further.

According to a source, Padilla was only scheduled to meet the President at the Palace, but was surprised when the papers for his clemency were already ready when he arrived.

Padilla, a staunch supporter of Duterte prior to his rise to the presidency, was convicted for illegal possession of firearms in 1994 and sentenced to a 21-year prison term. He began to serve the term after the ruling was upheld by the Court of Appeals in 1995.

He was released after being granted conditional pardon by former President Fidel Ramos in 1997.

Last August, Padilla was among the names recommended by the Board of Pardons and Parole for executive clemency.

In an Instagram post, Padilla said he had applied for a US tourist visit so he could join his wife, TV host Mariel Rodriguez, for the birth of their first child.

However, the application was denied and Padilla missed the birth of his daughter last November 14. —with a report from Cedric Castillo/JST/DVM, GMA News

Padilla: No politics behind absolute pardon from Duterte By: Jhesset O. Enano - Reporter / @JhessetEnanoINQ Philippine Daily Inquirer / 04:01 PM November 16, 2016

MANILA — Actor Robin Padilla strongly denied on Wednesday that the absolute pardon granted to him by President Duterte was a mere political favor, saying such an accusation was not fair.

“I cannot accept that because I’ve campaigned for several presidents and I’ve never asked to be given pardon,” he said in a media briefing. “And if that were the case, then I should have been given [full] pardon already by former President Fidel V. Ramos.”

The actor was given absolute pardon by President Duterte on Tuesday during their meeting at Malacañang.

The pardon restores Padilla’s civil and political rights, meaning he can freely travel abroad, exercise his right to vote and run for political office, among others.

4 YEARS IN PRISON

He was convicted for illegal possession of firearms in 1994 and was sentenced to a maximum of eight years in prison. He was released after a conditional pardon granted by then president Fidel V. Ramos, during which he had already spent four years in prison.

Padilla has been a vocal supporter of President Duterte and even campaigned for him. However, he said that he has also done favors for past presidents, but never asked for executive clemency.

NEVER ASKED FOR PARDON

“[Former President] Erap Estrada made me go to Abu Sayaff. I have done work for former Presidents Gloria Arroyo and even Noynoy Aquino, but I’ve never asked for my pardon [in exchange],” said Padilla, adding that asking for clemency through the proper process was his right.

He pointed out he never hurt or killed anybody. “I already paid for my sins inside the New Bilibid Prison,” he said.

His lawyer, Rudolf Philip Jurado, said he filed for a petition for absolute pardon before the Board of Pardons and Parole (BPP) in August, along with talent manager Elizabeth Vidanes.

Arranged without the actor’s knowledge, Jurado told reporters that the restrictions of the conditional pardon had affected Padilla’s work in show business.

PETITION FOR ABSOLUTE PARDON

The BPP recommended the pardon and was endorsed to the Palace by the Department of Justice.

Padilla told reporters that he earlier arranged for an appointment with Mr. Duterte to discuss his elder sister Rema’s work in public hospitals. But it came as a surprise when the chief executive handed him his pardon papers instead.

“I have never seen such light in my whole life,” Padilla said of the President’s move. “Symbolically, the Philippine republic says that I am a decent man, and I am given a second chance even as an ex-convict.”

He added, “When I saw the President’s signature, all I wanted to do was immediately run to the US Embassy.”

He called the President’s decision his “rebirth,” adding to the joy over the birth of his first child with television host Mariel Rodriguez.

A dual citizen, Rodriguez gave birth to daughter Maria Isabella in the United States, without Padilla by her side.

The actor noted that he has avoided talk with the President about holding office in his administration.

“Politics is for Rommel,” he added, referring to his older brother. SFM

Dili man sakit iyaha comment, accepted ‘yan.”

Buwelta ulit ni Baste: "Hilom lagi [manahimik ka nga]."

Sa huli, sumagot ulit si Baste at pabirong sinabi na padadalhan niya ng missile ang naturang netizen.
