AGOT'S OPINION. Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella says actress Agot Isidro is entitled to her own opinion of President Rodrigo Duterte. File photo by Alecs Ongcal/Rappler

MANILA, Philippines – Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella on Sunday, October 9, responded to actress Agot Isidro's criticism against President Rodrigo Duterte.

In a statement, Abella said: "While she (Isidro) is entitled to her own opinion, it also reveals the kind of attitude that the President is addressing – dependency on foreign aid. He wants the Filipino people to gain true independence, economically, mentally and socially."

In a Facebook post last Friday, October 7, Isidro said: "Unang-una, walang umaaway sa iyo. As a matter of fact, ikaw ang nang-aaway.

(First of all, no one's fighting with you. As a matter of fact, you're the one picking fights with others.)

"Pangalawa, yung bansa kung saan ka inuluklok ng 16 million out of 100+million people ay Third World. Kung makapagsalita ka parang superpower [ang] Pilipinas eh. At excuse me, ayaw namin magutom. Mag-isa ka na lang. Wag ka mangdamay. Hindi na nga nakakain ang nakakarami, gugutumin mo pa lalo.

(Second, this country, where 16 million out of 100+ million voted for you, is a Third World [country]. The way you talk, it's as if the Philippines were a superpower. And excuse me, none of us want to go hungry. Just be by yourself. Don't drag other people into it. A lot of people are already starving, you'll make them starve more.)

"Pangatlo, may kilala ako psychiatrist. Patingin ka, hindi ka bipolar. You are a psychopath."

(Third, I know a psychiatrist. Why don't you have a check-up? You're not bipolar. You are a psychopath.)

Isidro, who is part of the show Ang Probinsyano, seemed to be reacting to Duterte's remarks that he would not beg for assistance from the United States and the European Union – as her Facebook post included a link to the story on that topic.

(READ: Duterte to EU, US: Withdraw aid, we will survive)

"Maski magkahirap dito (Even if we face hardships), we will survive. I'll be the first one to go hungry, I'll be the first one to die of hunger, huwag kayo mag-alala (don't worry). But we will never, never compromise our dignity as Filipinos," said Duterte at a police camp in Butuan City last Thursday, October 6.

Duterte has been criticizing the US, EU, and the United Nations, after they expressed alarm over his war on drugs which has left more than 3,600 people dead. – Rappler.com

Ms. Agot Isidro is just being true to herself and she is correct about starving the already famished poor Filipinos! We can still have our dignity intact without compromising the economy of our country by piling enemies after enemies whose only fault is to remind the president of the obligation of our government to uphold human rights and dignity and the judicial processes that our country is a signatory of! Her only fault is calling the president a psycopath. She is wrong,he is a murderous serial killer(joke only Mr. President!)!

Intellectually
I supported Duterte and I still supportt some of his policies but let's call a spade a spade, shall we? The Dutertetards brags about Duterte in being raw, unfiltered, and brave for hurling expletives and insults yet when Agot does the same they all whine and cry like babies.
Moreever, they fail to acknowledge Duterte's blunder about his claim of being independent from the U.S,
He just wants to be independent from the U.S. only to be dependent on China and Russia. I mean - what the Fk?!?
That is not independence - fior fk's sake!

Agot was also referring to Duterte's quotw when he said, "wag kayong mag alala. Pag nagutom tayo ako ang unang magugutom." Is he seriously fking insane? I do not care if he die of hunger. This is not about him.. This is about the Filipino people! Dutertr tends to spew idiocy and his loyalists are too fanatical to not see his flaws, and they do not even criticize him. It is called blind loyalty just like the Trump fanatics.

The philippines need the US as much ad the US needs the Philippines for geopolitical reasons. No, the US and the EU are far from being perfect but they at least try to promote democracy and human rights. What does China promote? Do these Dutertetards think that China will give up the disputed islands when the Philippines allies with them?

I would rather be dependent from the US than China and Russia. Besides, it's not dependency. It's more like of a co-dependency because both countries depends on each other. Both countries has a common interest. The dutertetards are not able to grasp complex issues when it comes to geopoltics and economics. To them everything is black and white in a world full of complexities. Ignorance is not always bliss - it can be utterly destructive

Du30's independent foreign policy is misleading & ambiguous. He wants to be independent from US but dependent on China or Russia. Does anyone believe there's a country who is totally independent economically today? Not even China or USA.

I agree with Agot. Duterte need to streamline his foul mouth hope he also do not have bad breath. lol. I agree with thinking that the US did some exploitation of the country for their own interests but that's also the fault of some our leaders who let it happen and looked the other way and did not resist. this kind of issues can be checked and controlled depending on the leader. But at the same token a president also need to jiggle around the super powers and regional powers to exert its national interests and its usually a two way street. I like Dutert's plans for the country in many ways like his war on all forms of criminality, restoring the death penalty, federalism, trying to end the insurgency. But I am disappointed when it comes to his foul mouth and very anti west leanings. we need the west just as we can be friendly with the east too and rip all its benefits because just as Agot said we are still a 3rd world country and we do need aid. dont tell me he is not going to receive aid from China, then thats not being independent isn't. Duterte needs advisers like Agot and Leni to wake him up and control his mouth. the problem is he must be listening too much to Jo Ma. He better make the economy works because if the people get hungrier then there can be a drastic change too he does not want or expect. as long as he maintain a healthy eocnomy and improve the infrastructures he will be ok but his mouth has to stream line too because now he is being criticized by FVR, Gordon and Ping Lacson too. if he does not control his mouth he will have more enemies. and thats not good.

MANILA, Philippines – Agot Isidro earned the ire of netizens, particularly those who are avid supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte after she called the president a psychopath and dared him to consult a psychiatrist.

The issue started when the actress aired her frustrations on social media after President Rodrigo Duterte challenged the European Union (EU) and United States (US) to withdraw the aid that they give to the Philippines; emphasizing that the country can survive without them.

On her Facebook page, the actress wrote:

“Unang-una, walang umaaway sa iyo. As a matter of fact, ikaw ang nang-aaway.

[First of all, no one’s fighting you. As a matter of fact, you’re the one who’s picking a fight.]

Pangalawa, ‘yung bansa Kung saan ka inuluklok ng 16 million out of 100+ million people ay Third World. Kung makapagsalita ka parang superpower ang pilipinas eh. At excuse me, ayaw namin magutom. Mag-isa ka na Lang. wag kang mandamay. Hindi na nga nakakain ang nakararami, gugutumin mo pa lalo.

[Secondly, the country where you are elected as President by 16 million out of 100+ million people is Third World. You talk as if the Philippines is a superpower. And excuse me, we don’t want to go hungry. If you want, you do it yourself. Don’t include us. There are so many people who have nothing to eat, and yet you’ll starve us even further.]

Pangatlo, may kilala along psychiatrist. Patingin ka. Hindi ka bipolar [Thirdly, I know a psychiatrist. Have yourself checked.] You’re not bipolar. You are a psychopath.”

The actress seemingly took a jab against the president’s way of leadership when she posted a thinly-veiled quote which read: “If you need violence to enforce your ideas, your ideas are worthless.”

The supporters of the president were quick to defend him, and many criticized the actress for her rude remarks against Pres. Duterte.

A post in Duterte Today’s Facebook page read: “Is Agot Isidro right in saying no one was triggering President Duterte’s tirades against US, EU?

She’s wrong. These two entities, their representatives, leaders, have been lecturing us how we should run our country.

You don’t need a college degree to determine what’s wrong with those statements. Philippines is a SOVEREIGN COUNTRY. No one can ever tell us how we should run this country except the Filipino people.

If Agot can’t understand that, then she should undergo psychiatrict evaluation AGAIN.”

Actress Elizabeth Oropesa also expressed her support to the president and defended her from Agot’s criticism.

On her Facebook page, she shared a photo of herself wearing a shirt with the words “It’s a Duterte thing you wouldn’t understand”.

She captioned it: “One of the 16 million psychopath.”

Quit using 'Dutertards' as an insult, urges Kris Aquino ABS-CBN News Posted at Oct 15 2016 07:24 PM

MANILA - Stop using the term "Dutertards" in referring to President Rodrigo Duterte's supporters, actress Kris Aquino urged the firebrand leader's critics.

"I resent calling anyone 'tards.' Kasi I have a special son so I'm sensitive to that even if it's a term that is used widely," Kris told reporters earlier this week on the sidelines of a press conference for a brand, her first public appearance since she severed a 20-year tie with ABS-CBN.

The term "Dutertards" is a portmanteau of the firebrand president's surname and the derogatory term "retard." It is usually used by his critics to label his most avid supporters.

Aquino said that she sympathizes with Duterte, because she saw how critics spoke about her brother, former president Benigno Aquino III.

She added that she has taken her cue from her brother, who has kept mum on issues concerning the current administration.

"If my brother is respectful enough to want to give this administration a chance to succeed, why won't I do the same? Siyempre, there will be missteps. Hindi naman lahat kakampi mo. Pero ako, gusto ko [siyang] mag-succeed," the outspoken TV personality said.

During his term, former president Aquino was troubled by allegations of autism, which he denied. He was also labeled "abnormal" by opponents of his administration.

Kris asks celebrity drug users: Gusto niyo bang mamatay? ABS-CBN News Posted at Oct 16 2016 01:06 AM

MANILA - Kris Aquino has a warning for those who stubbornly refuse to cut down their drug use amid the government's intensified crackdown, which has led to a few high-profile arrests and a former actor injured in a shooting incident.

"Naiintindihan ko na for us to talk about this drug menace ay kailangan celebrity ang pagusapan kasi bibigyan mo ng 10 to 15 minutes sa news dahil kilala iyong taong involved," she told reporters at the sidelines of a press conference for her newest product endorsement last Thursday.

Citing American actor Robert Downey Jr., whose story of redemption from drug addiction to being one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood has been nothing short of compelling, Kris argued that it is never too late for anyone to turn their back on illegal substances.

"Bakit sa America, si Robert Downey Jr. nakulong, na-rehab, And then naging 'Iron Man' pa siya," she reasoned. "So parang, ako, pinagdadasal ko: Number one, if you're still into it, matuto ka na. Stop it! Voluntarily dalhin mo na sarili mo sa rehab."

"Kung ayaw mo dito, mag-abroad ka, linisin mo ang sarili mo. It begins with you. Kasi gusto mo bang mamatay?"

"Secondly, doon sa mga [nahuli] ngayon, unang una: own up to it. Nangyari eh. And I think sa America kaya sila nakaka-recover eh kasi ino-own nila. And they do something about it. And thank you Lord na natututo sila. And sana mangyari din ito sa atin."

Since President Duterte launched his war against illegal drugs, a number of celebrities such as former matinee idol Mark Anthony Fernandez, ex-sexy actress Sabrina M, and Krista Miller have been arrested.

I asked the fuming Kris for clarification and she directed me to just quote (yes, verbatim, not even a punctuation mark changed) what she posted on her Instagram. Here it is, addressed to trolls:

It seems you don’t want me to stay quiet and your trolls want to keep perpetuating lies about me. My friend JC Buendia & my sister Viel both showed me this paulit ulit na FB post. The necklaces supposedly belonged to Mrs. Marcos & I was brazen enough to wear them for the APEC DINNER. Duh? The necklace I wore was made from cubic zirconia & silver — hindi po DIAMONDS, in other words fake sila although Bottega Veneta naman. ENOUGH! And the TRUTH is on my side — including credit card receipts. P.S. I have a long standing event for #ARIEL on Tuesday, even if my necklaces aren’t appropriate for showing how you can remove more than 100 different types of stains — what the heck, isusuot ko na sila, after all I paid for them w/ hard-earned, tax paid income, and hindi ko na problema kung yung pagnanakaw ng iba trip nilang ibintang/pagtakpan using me — and to be perfectly clear, I’m not referring to Mrs. Marcos. So this is FAIR WARNING — stop lying about me if you don’t want your rotting skeletons unearthed. #IAMBACK

There you are, Kris in a fighting mood, so beware!

As an addendum, Kris texted me this:

I was 14 years old and my Mom and I didn’t enter Malacañang until nearly a week after because it needed to be swept of all possible bombs, etc. I just got fed up with the lies being perpetuated about me and indirectly my Mom.

Former DILG Sec. Mar Roxas and wife Korina Sanchez (shown during her graduation from Ateneo with M.A. in Journalism).

Mar, Korina lead standing ovation for Jersey Boys Those who have watched Jersey Boys at the Meralco Theater have been endorsing the musical to those who still haven’t. Their last chance is this weekend during the musical’s last performance (3 p.m. matinee and 8 p.m. last show).

My friend Raoul Tidalgo and I watched Jersey Boys on Broadway a few years ago and we were pleasantly surprised that most of the songs we were familiar with were by Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons (a.k.a. Jersey Boys), so we couldn’t help humming along with them in a tone that we made sure didn’t bother the sensitive Broadway audiences who would throw a piercing glance at you if you as much as cough or sneeze. Yes, there’s a scene in the musical that made us cry (quietly now!) but I won’t tell you what it is and just let you find out for yourself (don’t tell me we didn’t tell you!).

Last Sunday, former presidential candidate/DILG Secretary Mar Roxas and his wife Korina Sanchez led the standing ovation of the full-house crowd at Meralco Theater.

Also spotted in the audience were Karla “Queen Mom” Estrada who also stood up on the second row, proudly smiling, cheering and clapping obviously for her fellow Your Face Sounds Familiar (YFSF) celebrity juror Nyoy Volante (in the cast with Christian Bautista, Nino Alejandro and Markki Stroem). With Karla was Tutti Caringal, also an YFSF singer.

Jackielou Blanco casually slipped in, hardly creating any attention yet inevitably made heads turn with her distinctly mestiza face, so beautiful even without make-up.

Incidentally, the guitar-festooned stage is the impressive work of Faust Penyera. Take a bow, Bobby Garcia, you need not prove anything anymore, what with this brilliant work. There should be repeats, don’t you think?

Why Kris Aquino felt hurt by James Yap ABS-CBN News Posted at Oct 11 2016 09:13 PM

A photo posted by 🇵🇭 Kris Aquino (@kriscaquino) on Oct 10, 2016 at 8:57pm PDT

MANILA - Television host and actress Kris Aquino said she felt hurt with the decision of her former husband, basketball star James Yap, not to tell their son Bimby about his baby with his Italian girlfriend.

Aquino, in her first public appearance since leaving ABS-CBN, revealed that Bimby only found out about Yap's new son, who was born last August, on Facebook.

"It was not told to him," she said. "I'm not disparaging them [James and girlfriend Michela] because that was their choice. I want them to be also happy and peaceful, because when there's peace and happiness in the other side, there's peace and happiness in your home."

"Pero iyon lang. Nasaktan ako because my son deserved to find out, na sana diniretso sa kanya. Hindi dahil nagselos ako na, oh my God, nag-move on, naunahan ako. Hindi. As a mother, you will shelter and shield your child," she added.

Aquino's claim is in sharp contrast with Yap's, who earlier aired in a radio interview his frustrations over the lack of chances in meeting Bimby. He also said he wants Bimby to meet his baby brother.

"I'll be honest, I was afraid of how Bimby would react about his new sibling," Aquino shared. "Kasi I've been discussing it with him."

"I've been saying, 'Please tell me when you’re ready. Let's make a call. Let's be the ones to call them and say, 'Hey, I'd like to meet my brother.' And then Bimby said, 'Okay, Mama, I’ll tell you when.'"

A photo posted by James Yap (@jamesyap18) on Oct 8, 2016 at 5:53am PDT

Meanwhile, Aquino said she is willing to settle his differences with Yap for their children.

"We went through so much hell separating, annulling... Lahat ‘yan pinagdaanan naming kaso. Pero it takes two. And I think I have done more than my share in trying to be the mature one, because I’m 10 years older, so dapat lang," she explained.

“Pero at this stage din naman of the life of the father, it’s time also to man up.”

The Tower reflects the column of light vertically into the sky from a 10-meter wide wishing well. Buried underneath it are one million plus written wishes that Yoko collected through the years in her art project called Wish Trees.

Yoko also presented this year’s The Lennon Ono Grant For Peace Award to Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei, British-Indian artist Anish Kapoo, Hungarian composer, performance artist and actor Katalin Ladik and Danish-Icelandic artist Ólafur Elíasson.

In this early evening presscon, he looks more like a fan of his cast (Angel Locsin, Zanjoe Marudo and Sam Milby) than a director. Until he speaks, that’s the time you find the essence of his persona.

His latest and second mainstream film is not about the typical third parties in a marital set-up.

Says direk Jason: “The film is light and easy and full of humor just don’t expect violent confrontations between kabits in Philippine society. The film is about love and acceptance, not necessarily about gay love, but true love between friends who have moved on from previous relationships.”

The members of the cast admit working with the young director was an eye-opener.

Opines Angel: “The story is not new but direk Jason has a way of retelling the narrative in a new light, funny and absurd in one setting and full of truth in another. We are all very relaxed on the set but he knew what he wanted from us. With everything very clear from the very start, you just have to give your best. It’s nice to find rare insights from young directors.”

The setting of The Third Party is a far cinema destination from his early powerful and award-winning works like Babagwa (The Spider’s Lair) and Magkakabaung (The Coffin Maker) but he has since then learned to enjoy the best of both worlds.

He learned the rudiments of the craft working with fellow Kapampangan, Brillante Mendoza, in the film, Serbis and was earlier involved as script supervisor for Star Cinema in Maryo J. Delos Reyes’ A Love Story in 2007. He finished scriptwriting workshop under Ricky Lee and Amor Olaguer in 2012.

Growing up in Angeles City, he knew that he had to write about his hometown and later his films will be influenced by the culture of the place of his birth.

Back in the University of the Philippines, where he finished Masscom, he was into video directing and he loved music he also wanted to be involved with musicals.

But the indie films beckoned and indeed he came face to face with the realities of the profession.

With indie films, he relished the artistic freedom and the awards but realized later it was hard to get back what every entrepreneur wants and that is the return of investment.

“Doing indie films gives you more freedom to choose your materials, regardless of how they will be accepted in the box office,” he says explaining what he enjoys as an indie director. “But you have to find a bigger audience and a more stable film company to help you survive in between personal projects.”

On his first mainstream outing (Love is Blind), he found a bigger audience and wider reactions for his work. The big challenge was there and along with it, the big pressure. With a good result, he didn’t regret getting wider audiences for his transition project.

But he knew what was expected of him in mainstream projects.

He points out: “With a big cast and a big budget, you know you can’t be too personal in story treatment. But it doesn’t mean you have to lose your own voice in this film. You always collaborate with writers and actors and between them, you have to find a way to tell your story in a grand but meaningful way without losing your own insight. You also have to bear in mind that a big company invested in this project and that the target is a wider audience. Between expectations and commercial demands, you just have to find your own voice as a director.”

He admits it is too early to tell which directorial directions he is pursuing but undoubtedly, he treats every project as a fascinating journey into the big wide world of filmmaking.

About his latest mainstream film, direk Jason knows he just has to be honest to find what is redeeming and exemplary about certain relationships. He knows some sectors of society are not ready for it. But he has clearly observed that this relationship thrives with the parties proud of their choices. “The movie is about love of all kinds and how far they can go. I packaged it in such a way the parties involved get a fair exposure as to who they are in real life. I believe some relationships — no matter how unusual — deserve our respect. Because whether we like it or not, love in all forms actually transcends gender. I am happy that my actors actually gave more than what appeared on the script to do justice to a good story.”

The Third Party, starring Angel Locsin, Zanjoe Marudo and Sam Milby, opens today in cinemas.
