FINALLY. KRIS AQUINO STUMPS FOR ROXAS, ROBLEDO

APRIL 16 -
TV host Kris Aquino, youngest sister of President Benigno Aquino III, on Friday stepped on the stage to campaign for administration standard-bearer Mar Roxas and running mate Leni Robredo.  Kris’ star power could just be one of the extra push needed by the tandem, especially Roxas, who continues to trail behind voter preference surveys. “Please do not forget the candidates of P-Noy. I hope that whatever support you have for him in Bulacan in 2010, you will also give Mar Roxas and Leni Robredo in 2016,” Kris said.
With only 23 days to go before election day, Kris vowed to campaign for Roxas and Robredo in every corner of the country. Wearing a yellow shirt over a pair of denims, Kris again shared details of her family’s personal life to explain why she finally decided to campaign for the tandem of Roxas and Robredo. Kris, who is on leave from show business due to health concerns, said she and her sons, Joshua and Bimby, have been staying with her brother at his official home, Bahay Pangarap, since Monday. Throughout the week, she saw how busy President Aquino was—traveling to Tarlac and Mindanao, and juggling his time for all the things he has to attend to as chief executive. On Thursday night, Kris said, she saw her brother fall asleep on the couch with her sons. “This morning I talked to my brother and told him that when you were campaigning in 2010, you were able to count on me. I went to every corner of the Philippines for you. Now, so that what you have done can be continued, I will go back to every corner of the country to help Mar Roxas and Leni Robredo,” Kris said. On stage with Kris were Roxas’ son, Paolo, Robredo’s sister-in-law Dr. Josephine Robredo-Bundoc, and Bulacan local officials. It was Kris who introduced her brother before he took the stage. Derek, Iza and Shaina give election season romantic twist posted April 22, 2016 at 06:55 pm by Isah V. Red

Actors Derek Ramsay, Iza Calzado, and Shaina Magdayao give the audience a different tale of love and romance this election season via My Candidate, a coproduction between Quantum Films, MJM Productions, Tuko Film Productions and Butchi Boy Films, the same producers of the award- winning and critically-acclaimed romantic-comedy films, English Only, Please and #Walang Forever.

The film is set against a political background and so, it is timely as today’s headlines. Derek plays congressman Sonny Suarez, now seeking a Senate seat. He may be a perfect candidate but is painfully shy and a bit withdrawn.

In “My Candidate,” Iza is Vera Chavez, Sonny’s (Derek Ramsay) erstwhile girlfriend and arch rival in his senatorial bid

Iza, meanwhile, is Vera Chavez, Sonny’s erstwhile girlfriend and arch rival in his senatorial bid. She possesses strengths lacking in Sonny. She’s charming as well as engaging but is not able to relate to people from the grassroots.

Congressman Sonny Suarez (Derek Ramsay) and his public speaking coach Billie Pono (Shaina Madayao)

Shaina is Billie Pono, a life coach and communications trainer. Sonny’s campaign team hires her services to help polish their candidate’s public speaking skill and innate charisma.

Billie succeeds at turning Sonny into the dream candidate and the two become close while at work.

In turn, Sonny is able to unleash some unresolved issues in Billie’s life, including her insecurities thereby making her a better version of herself.

The movie’s teaser immediately earned almost a million views, shares and likes the minute it was posted on My Candidate Facebook page.

In the film, Madayao and Ramsay play the role of unlikely pair

Netizens swore by Derek, Iza and Shaina’s outstanding performances. Shaina held her own against Iza in the film, and this may be considered as her biggest break as a lead actress. She gave the role her all, especially in scenes where her character finds herself slowly failing, in love with Sonny.

Take note, Derek and Shaina also register very strong positive vibes on screen. Their romantic scenes are neither hard sell nor put on, so, their pairing is indeed one of today’s freshest, newest romantic comedy tandems.

Shaina Madgayao in ascene with Ketchup Eusebio

No wonder, director Quark Henares is satisfied with his three main stars plus the support cast composed of Al Tantay, Nico Antonio, Ketchup Eusebio, Ricci Chan, Jun Sabayton and Tirso Cruz III in a special role.

The movie imparts all these funny situations during election time coupled with the resounding message that it must indeed be “Bayan Muna Bago Puso.”

Derek Ramsay and Tirso Cruz III

Also part of the movie is box-office director Dan Villegas, who serves as creative producer. Villegas is the man is behind such award-winning and blockbuster films as English Only, Please and #Walang Forever.

His latest hit project is Always Be My Maybe.

Fresh concept. Hilarious story telling. New screen combination, My Candidate gives the election season a romantic twist starting May 11 in theaters nationwide.

Naku, Philippine elections no joke By Nathalie Tomada (The Philippine Star) | Updated April 23, 2016 - 12:00am 0 0 googleplus0 0

GMA 7’s Naku, Boss Ko! stars (from left) Gabbi Garcia, Ruru Madrid, Tessie Tomas and Leo Martinez

MANILA, Philippines - With only two weeks left before Election Day on May 9, the Kapuso network will start airing an eight-part election advocacy series titled Naku, Boss Ko! on April 25 at 10:15 p.m. on GMA Telebabad.

The cast and production of the show, which comes in the final stretch of the elections, hope that Naku, Boss Ko! will still be able to help audiences come to a wise and informed (final!) decision on who to elect for the highest and most positions in the land.

An eight-part series, Naku, Boss Ko! is a political satire cum romantic-comedy (rom-com) that pokes fun and at the same time, aims to expose the “absurdity and hypocrisy” of some campaign strategies in this national election season.

The series brings back the love team of Ruru Madrid and Gabbi Garcia with political satire favorites Leo Martinez and Tessie Tomas.

As Tessie puts it, “Sila yung rom,” referring to Gabbi and Ruru, “kami yung com.”

In Naku, Boss Ko!, Ruru plays Jon G, a young, inexperienced and reluctant mayoral candidate in the Town of Malaya.

It all starts with a video of his, which is totally unrelated to politics, that goes viral on social media, garnering millions of likes. This gives his businessman father OMG (Leo), your typical traditional politician (trapo) who had run for mayor many times but failed in every occasion, some “bright” ideas. Maybe, his son’s online popularity can translate to actual votes and win him an election?

Says Leo of his character: “I am manipulative. I go with big business. For my character, winning elections is a game. It’s not about who deserves it, but who is winnable. To win an election is to win a popularity contest. The question there: Is that right or wrong?”

OMG employs the help of flamboyant image builder, handler and spin doctor Ms. F (Tessie) to groom Jon G as the dream candidate. And as Jon G pounds the campaign trail, he meets and tries to win over the anti-trapo activist Che (Gabbi).

Naku, Boss Ko! is directed by the director of Ang Babae sa Septic Tank, Marlon Rivera, written by Palanca Hall of Famer Rody Vera and indie writer-director Zig Dulay, with concept by Patty Gutierrez.

Direk Marlon says that the series tells the “behind-the-scenes making of a candidate” which incorporates an “instructional on, for example, the five ways to woo a voter, or what photos to use in posters, like should it be wacky or yummy? May pagka-How-To, DIY (do-it-yourself). It’s an interesting format.”

For Gabbi, because of its elements of romance and comedy, the show provides a youthful approach to delivering a serious message about elections, to look past the glossy surface and really know a candidate before entrusting your vote to him and her.

For the rest of the cast members, the series is unique and comes at an opportune time.

Tessie, who like Leo has spoofed political characters like Imelda Marcos, says, “There is nothing like this right now on Philippine TV — a spoof… showing the ills of an election. And this is important because this is the most critical time of the elections.”
