ALSO: Aiza & Liza on ‘delayed honeymoon’ in Machu Picchu

MARCH 2 -Mr. and Mrs. Aiza Seguerra (nee Liza Diño) must be feeling ‘high’ at the Inca site in Peru
A little more than a year after their ceremonial wedding in the Philippines (following their civil wedding in the US),
Mr. and Mrs. Aiza Seguerra (nee Liza Diño) are enjoying their “delayed honeymoon” in Machu Picchu, a 15th-century Inca site located 2,430 meters (7,970 feet) above sea level in the Cusco Region, Urubamba Province, Machupicchu District in Peru. It’s the same place that sweethearts Dr. Vicki Belo and Dr. Hayden Kho visited a few years ago as part of their bucket list. Because of its location, Machu Picchu is the perfect place for a honeymoon since, according to record, “it is situated on a mountain ridge above the Sacred Valley” 80 kilometers northwest of Cuzco.  It is said that most archeologists believe that Machu Picchu was built as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti (1438-1472), often mistakenly referred to as the Lost City of the Incas. This report came from Funfare’s New York-based “beauty expert” Felix Manuel who referred to Aiza in the pronoun “he” (which is how Aiza wants it) and the couple as ZaZa. READ MORE...

MARCH 2 -Award winner Del Carmen and wife.
At Sunday night’s 88th Academy Awards, Fil-Am director/writer Ronnie del Carmen shared the spotlight when Inside Out won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film. Del Carmen co-directed the film with Pete Docter who collected the award with co-producer Jonas Rivera.
Del Carmen himself was a nominee in the category for Best Original Screenplay along with Docter and three others. Inside Out was based on a story co-created by Del Carmen and Docter. The other nominees were Bridge of Spies, Ex Machina, Spotlight, and Straight Outta Compton, with Spotlight winning the Oscar. San Francisco-based Del Carmen proudly wore a midnight blue piña tuxedo by Hollywood Filipino designer Oliver Tolentino. His wife Tess del Carmen (in photo with Ronnie) also chose an outfit by Oliver, an emerald green guipure lace mermaid gown. The couple had attended the grand opening of the designer’s new Beverly Hills boutique last December and decided at that time to wear his designs. Oliver may be a good luck charm for animated films. Jennifer Lee won an Oscar in 2014 for Frozen while wearing his black gown. And at the same time, as previously reported here, Oliver became the first Filipino designer in 53 years to dress an Oscar winner. (Pitoy Moreno is the only other designer to dress a winner, Rita Moreno, who won Best Supporting Actress for West Side Story.) Last week, Cherie Gil wore Oliver’s red geometric gown when Lav Diaz’s film Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis won the Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival. FULL REPORT.

“Before they flew to Peru, Aiza did a concert in Florida, California and New York accompanied by Liza,” wrote Felix who met the couple at the Sheraton East La Guardia Hotel in Flushing, Queens, where the concert was held. “More than Aiza’s as usual great performance, it was her meet-and-greet with fellow same-sex couples that was most touching. The couples said that they were inspired by ZaZa to be proud of themselves. One couple said, ‘Seeing them profess their love really helped us a lot in coming out and be proud of our relationship that we had kept private for so many years.’ I took my hat off to ZaZa.”

Felix also reported “star sightings” at the Big Apple, including the cast of Story Of Us, the ABS-CBN teleserye starring Kim Chiu and Xian Lim, along with Zsa Zsa Padilla and US-based stars Leandro Muñoz and his brother Carlo (with wife Enid “Meg” Reyes) and Beth Tamayo. Based in L.A., the Muñoz brothers now considers acting as “sideline.”

REtroSPECT also did a show at D’Haven in Queens as part of its Reunion Tour 2016 which set for a performance in Canada next week.

“The 19-year-old retro-pop band, Aliw’s Best Group Performer Hall Of Fame Awardee and Certified by (AFM) American Federation Of Musicians of USA and Canada, impressed everyone with its electrifying performance of classic hits from the ’70s to the 2000s,” reported Felix. “People were dancing and singing with the group throughout the show. “I am truly impressed with the talent of every member!”

According to 2013 Mrs. Kalayaan/2011 Mrs. Philippines-USA Rose Pacia LaBelle, “I was transported back to my high school days!” Entertainment buff Melissa Alviar said, “I have seen a lot of performers and they definitely rocked! It’s time warp, ’80s style, can’t wait for their next show here.”

Added Felix, “During the two-night event, the group also had a chance to reconnect with their schoolmates and friends who are based in the city. Ogie Ramos was a batch higher than me during our UST High School days and he was able to reconnect with his batch mates during the shows. Goldie and J also had their mini-reunions with friends and classmates.”
