Aces & Queens is the team that trains beauty queens, including Pia and other winners in pageants abroad. From the presscon, Pia proceeded to her room for the fitting of clothes she was going to wear to the various activities lined up for her, also designed by Albert Andrada who did the national costume (white) and the blue gown (for the finals) that Pia wore during the Miss U pageant in Las Vegas. If there was anything that Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach said she regretted, it was that her father was no longer around to witness her bring home the crown. “If there’s something that I want to change in my life, it would be that,” said the 26-year-old stunner during her Jan. 27 homecoming at ABS-CBN, where she has been a talent since age 13. “I was a daddy’s girl. I wish I had more time with him (her German father, Uwe Wurtzbach, passed away two years ago). Although there was always a way to talk to him, it wasn’t easy to do, because he already had another family.”  Born and partly raised in Germany, Pia became the family’s breadwinner in her preteen years after her parents separated when she was 9 years old. In her chat with “Mornings @ ANC” host Ginger Conejero, Pia recalled: “Dad knew that I was a runner-up in 2014. ALSO: Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach on her advocacy for HIV/AIDS awareness, pageant memories, boyfriend and future plans

JANUARY 29 -Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, during her week-long visit to the Philippines, reiterated her advocacy on human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS), pushing for more awareness and education. She wants to reach out to people around the globe to spread the message that there is still hope even when one is affected by this disease. Wurtzbach announced this during her homecoming press conference arranged by the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) last Jan. 24 at the Novotel Manila Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City. She added that the fiasco regarding the announcement of winners last year became a way for her to talk about her causes. She will use the opportunity to talk about these causes since she now has the attention of everybody. “You can live a normal life with this disease,” Wurtzbach said. “The important thing is to have yourself tested first so that you’ll know how far into the disease you’re in and get the right treatment. And with the treatment, you can have a normal life, and it’s not the end of the world.”  Wurztbach clarified that there is no one in her family with the virus. It was her experiences in past Binibining Pilipinas activities that made her want to help people suffering from the HIV/AIDS stigma. She wants to educate more people so that they don’t have to treat those living with HIV or AIDS differently. To show her determination in promoting the cause, Wurtzbach will soon get herself tested for HIV/AIDS in New York. This is to encourage everyone to do the same. “I feel like there is a stigma to it. People are afraid to talk about it, to interact with somebody who has it. All you have to do is to find out if you’re safe or not, and how to fix it. Parang takot na takot tayo, and that’s what made me become interested in it.”  Part of her very tight homecoming schedule was visiting hospitals to put smiles on the faces of youth living with HIV as well as of wounded soldiers. HIV cases are not only increasing in the Philippines but in different parts of the world every day. For her first press conference in her home country, Wurtzbach said she did not prepare speeches, contented with what she has accomplished and wanting everyone to be inspired by her story. “I am so proud that I was finally able to bring back the crown. I’ve always believed that it could happen, and it was a long journey getting here. I hope my story can become an inspiration — a story of determination, discipline, faith and hard work. (I hope to inspire people to) never to give up on their dreams because you’ll never know if it could happen to you,” Wurtzbach said becoming emotional. Wurtzbach also shared some memorable moments during the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas, USA. She recalled that the pinning of her sash as Miss Philippines during registration was a delight for her. She even looked at a mirror to see if it was really happening. Wurtzbach revealed that she was 15 minutes early that day, and was glad to be number one on the list. Another unforgettable moment was the long gown competition. Besides Gerry and Albert, also in the room were A&Q members Jonas Gaffud, Arnold Mercado, lawyer Nad Bronce, Bessie Besana, Paolo Baysa and Gery Penaso, and members of the Miss U team assigned to Pia. Later, the group was joined by her Binibini sisters 2015 Miss Globe Ann Colis and 2015 Miss Intercontinental first runner-up Christi McGarry.

“Since it was dinner time,” continued Gerry, “Pia decided to order food delivery from a popular food chain for everybody. It was Pia herself who dialed the number and did the ordering. When the order taker asked for her name, Pia said, ‘Pia.’ Then, the girl, obviously clueless who she was talking to, asked for her surname. Pia said, ‘Wurtzbach.’ As they continued talking, the girl must have realized who the hungry customer was. Before she hung up, she told Pia, ‘By the way, Ma’am, congratulations!’ That was when everyone in the room started laughing out loud.”

On hand to help Pia entertain the group was her mom Cheryl Alonzo Tindell who flew in from London (where she’s based) and Pia’s Aunt Olive (who arrived from Cagayan de Oro) to keep Pia company during her homecoming.

Reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach got to do her victory walk on Philippine soil after being robbed of her shining moment during the controversial coronation night in Las Vegas last December.

During her homecoming special at the Araneta Coliseum on Thursday, Wurtzbach, wearing the Miss Universe crown and the same blue Albert Andrada gown she wore during the pageant, did her victory walk in front of a Filipino audience.

At one point of the walk, Wurtzbach was joined by Miss Universe 1973 Margie Moran who was also on stage that time.

The 26-year-old Filipino beauty queen was not able to do her Miss Universe walk during the pageant after the controversial announcement mixup, when host Steve Harvey mistakenly named Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as winner.

Pia Wurtzbach does her victory walk in the Philippines during her homecoming at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Thursday night.

The Luna children fondly call their mom “Mother Lu” and their dad “Father Lu,” so the new son-in-law thought of a way to iron out the little kink.

“Puede po ba ‘pare’ at ‘mare’ na lang?”

Some of Vic’s four children (two with Dina and one each with Coney Reyes and Angela Luz) and children-in-law are older than Pauleen. Will they call Pauleen “Mommy?”

Bridesmaid Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach, Pauleen’s bestfriend

The road to the altar proved to be rough and rocky but Vic and Pauleen hit their goal in God’s good time, sa tamang panahon.

It took Vic some time to convince, not just Pauleen’s parents, but his children as well. All’s well that ends well. Vic’s siblings (Tito, Val and Maru) and his children (and in-laws) were all accounted for at the exclusively-family wedding.

It was recalled that in a TV interview, Vic said that if you opened his heart, the name inscribed in it is “Pauleen Luna.”

Noted Fr. Jeffrey, “Your heart is big. Also written in it are the names of your children.”

That made Vic cry (he does every time his children are mentioned). Then, he cried again at the end of the ceremony when he kissed Pauleen, hugged her, kissed her again, and hugged her oh-so-tightly that it seemed he would never let her go.

Yes, there’s forever, according to Vic. The age-gap nevertheless, the newly-weds vowed to live happily ever after at their dream house in Ayala Alabang where they plan to raise (more) children.

Although there was always a way to talk to him, it wasn’t easy to do, because he already had another family.”

Born and partly raised in Germany, Pia became the family’s breadwinner in her preteen years after her parents separated when she was 9 years old.

In her chat with “Mornings @ ANC” host Ginger Conejero, Pia recalled: “Dad knew that I was a runner-up in 2014. When I signed a contract to compete in Miss Universe in 2015, I remembered him because it happened on Aug. 24, his birthday.

"I teared up because I was thinking that maybe this was his gift to me—or his way of saying sorry that he wasn’t around. I took it as a positive sign. I’d like to think that he is watching over me.”

She joined the Binibining Pilipinas pageant three times before she finally bagged the Miss Universe title. In 2014, she placed first runner-up. The following year, she was eliminated early on in the competition.

In an interview with Bernadette Sembrano for “TV Patrol,” Pia said the crown she carries is heavy, “figuratively.”

She explained: “It entailed responsibilities that did not end after the pageant night—although I no longer feel like I still have something to prove. I’m now more concerned with having to make the most out of my yearlong reign. I am also given a (once-in-a-lifetime) chance to represent the Philippines and be the voice of the Miss Universe Organization.”

She said she did not give up on the crown “because I hate losing; Also because it doesn’t feel right to just let go (of a dream) because it didn’t happen right away, on the first attempt. I believed that I could win it!”

Asked to choose between her crown and love, Pia picked the former. She said falling in love would happen “when I’m finally done with the responsibilities that go with the crown.”

For the program “Umagang Kay Ganda,” Pia shared with host Atom Araullo how she was like when in love. “I’m very passionate, which makes it dangerous. When I’m in love, I tend to focus too much on that person. I cannot allow this to happen at the moment. I need to prioritize.”

To Julius Babao of “Bandila,” she admitted to having “dated” British-Filipino soccer player Phil Younghusband, but denied going out with President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

Pia arrived at the ABS-CBN compound in Quezon City shortly after 10 a.m. On the red carpet, she was greeted by flag-waving Kapamilya employees and serenaded by an eight-piece orchestra.

She then had brunch with network executives, Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III (chair), Carlo Katigbak (president and CEO), Cory Vidanes (channel head), Mariole Alberto (Star Magic head) and Charo Santos-Concio (former president and CEO).

Lopez, in his welcome speech, told Pia: “You came back with a crown on your head—it’s a fairy tale that came true!”
Katigbak, before proposing a toast, admitted he was one of the judges at the 2014 Binibining Pilipinas pageant. “I just want to say that it wasn’t my fault (you lost). I voted for you,” the Kapamilya exec said. “Not only are you the most beautiful woman in the universe; you’ve also shown us the meaning of courage, perseverance and determination.”

When it was her turn to address the network bosses, Pia said, with her voice breaking: “I have memories in every corner of this compound. I started my show biz career here when I was very young. This was also where I went to school (ABS-CBN Distance Learning Center), so I was here every day! Returning to my old home feels overwhelming.”

Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach on her advocacy for HIV/AIDS awareness, pageant memories, boyfriend and future plans Written by Tribune Wires Friday, 29 January 2016 00:00

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, during her week-long visit to the Philippines, reiterated her advocacy on human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS), pushing for more awareness and education.

And with the treatment, you can have a normal life, and it’s not the end of the world.”

Wurztbach clarified that there is no one in her family with the virus.

PIA VISITS WOUNDED SOLDIERS

This is to encourage everyone to do the same. “I feel like there is a stigma to it. People are afraid to talk about it, to interact with somebody who has it. All you have to do is to find out if you’re safe or not, and how to fix it. Parang takot na takot tayo, and that’s what made me become interested in it.”

Part of her very tight homecoming schedule was visiting hospitals to put smiles on the faces of youth living with HIV as well as of wounded soldiers.

She admitted that she prayed hard that BPCI would allow her to wear Filipino-designed creations.

“I’m so happy that finally we are able to wear Filipino designs in Miss Universe. I am so proud. It’s something that I was looking forward to for a very long time. And it happened,” she said.

Wurtzbach wore a blue Albert Andrada gown while being serenaded by singer Seal. Past Philippine bets for Miss Universe used to wear Colombian-designed gowns. Wurtzbach was the first to wear a gown by a Filipino designer after BPCI changed its stand on the matter.

Wurtzbach also wanted to visit her hometown, Cagayan de Oro City, but due to her very tight schedule, she might do it in her next visit. She also expressed gratitude to all the online voters who supported her during the pageant, her BPCI family through its head Stella Marquez-Araneta, her mentors from Aces and Queens, the Star Magic family where she started as an actress and her family for being with her all throughout.

She gamely responded to questions about her love life.

“I don’t have a boyfriend. I didn’t have a boyfriend even before the competition. Although I thought I was seeing somebody but it turns out it wasn’t so. Kita n’yo, kahit Miss Universe puwede ka pa rin maging sawi,” Wurtzbach laughed.

Wurtzbach said she will focus first on her duties as Miss Universe. She has become quite adjusted to the schedule. Even when it becomes very rigorous, she doesn’t complain. This is her dream, after all.

After her reign, Wurtzbach said she will grab opportunities that will come her way: “If there are opportunities to work abroad, in the US, why not? I’ll definitely try that out. And I might be the next Bond Girl, who knows. That’s the next dream.”

The Miss Universe Organization president Paula Shugart has many good things to say about Wurtzbach. She revealed to the press that she is learning many things everyday with the new Miss Universe: “She’s great. There’s something about her. She’s philosophical. She always looks on the bright side of everything. She’s such a joy. She’s a joy for all of us.”
