THE CAST of ‘Bakit Manipis Ang Ulap’ (from left): Cesar Montano, Claudine Barretto, Diether Ocampo and Meg Imperial

Cesar Montano and Joel Lamangan reunite

At the press conference of TV5’s new primetime soap opera “Bakit Manipis Ang Ulap,” leading man Cesar Montano explained the meaning behind the title.

He said, “Ang ulap kapag makapal, ang ibig sabihin, gloomy ang panahon. Malungkot ang karanasan. In the soap, the character of Claudine Barretto is asking kung bakit manipis ang ulap, gayong ang kanyang pakiramdam naman ay hindi magaan. Hindi maganda ang mga pangyayari sa kanyang buhay, magulo at masalimuot.”

“Bakit Manipis Ang Ulap” was originally a movie megged by Danny Zialcita. It starred Tommy Abuel, Chanda Romero, Janice de Belen, Alex Leviste and Mark Gil.

In the 2016 version, Cesar, Claudine, Meg Imperial, Diether Ocampo and Bernard Palanca, reprise their roles, respectively, from the direction of Joel Lamangan.

This will be TV5’s primetime offering salvo this year and it premieres on Feb. 15.

Cesar divulged it was Joel who inspired his love for acting all those years ago. “He was one of those who mentored me. I will forever be grateful for his contribution to my career,” he said.

Cesar and Joel have worked together at least four times in the past. Their movies include “Hiram Na Mukha” in 1992, “Hanggang Saan, Hanggang Kailan” in 1993, and “Silakbo” in 1995; they both acted in Marilou Diaz-Abaya’s “Rizal” in 1998.
