SENATE BET UNDER POE-ESCUDERO TANDEM: EDU MANZANO's LAST HURRAH

DECEMBER 9 -Edu Manzano: Moving on to the ‘next chapter of my life’ At 60 (last Sept. 14), Edu Manzano feels that, having done time in the private sector and public service, he has much to share, that’s why he has decided to run for senator under the Grace Poe-Chiz Escudero banner.
“It’s my last hurrah before I move on to the next chapter of my life,” Edu told a select group of movie journalists over dinner at Romulo’s Café. When he first ran (for vice mayor of Makati City) in 1998, Edu (born to Filipino parents in San Francisco, California, USA) was disqualified by the COMELEC Second Division for “misrepresenting himself as a natural-born Filipino citizen.” He garnered a majority of votes but his proclamation was suspended. The COMELEC eventually ruled that Edu was indeed a Filipino citizen and cleared the way for his proclamation. Edu hogged headlines when he tore up his American passport at a press conference following his disqualification claiming that “the resolution was done in haste.” The case was filed by the supporter of Edu’s opponent. “That’s why I sympathize with (Sen.) Grace (Poe),” said Edu. “Her case reminds me of what I had gone through.” After serving as Makati Vice Mayor, Edu ran for mayor (he lost to Vice Pres. Jojo Binay, standard bearer of UNA). He resurfaced in the 2010 presidential election as Gibo Teodoro’s running mate. READ MORE...WHY MOTHER LILY SUPPORTS VALENZUELA MAYOR WIN GATCHALIAN......MORE....

DECEMBER 11 -Vic Sotto and sweetheart Pauleen Luna during one of their private moments — Taken from Pauleen’s Instagram
Except to say that his and Pauleen Luna’s wedding will be held next year (presumably January, the earliest), all that Vic “Bossing” Sotto revealed in a one-on-one with The STAR is that it won’t be in the magnitude of, say, the Dingdong-Marian wedding on Dec. 30 last year. But it will be just as solemn.
“It’s going to be simple, hindi grandioso, not much fanfare. It will be simple, private, more of family and friends. I won’t call it exclusive, I’d call it private,” adding, “but we won’t keep it from the public. Hindi naman namin itatago. Abangan n’yo na lang ang detalye sa Eat, Bulaga!, lahat ng announcement at lahat ng pangyayari,” adding deadpan, “Matagal pa naman, eh. That marriage was annulled. Asked how he would feel exchanging “I do’s” for the second time, after a long time, Vic joked, “This time, the ‘I do’ will be longer, ‘I dooooooooooo!’ Ganyan kahaba, hehehe!!!” And to what song (their theme song?) will they be walking down the aisle (Pauleen will wear a gown by Francis Libiran)? “Dessert,” he said with a straight face, referring to the song played for Wally Bayola to dance to in the Bulaga Kalyeserye. There are surprises galore in the 2016 Grammy Awards nominations. No, one of them is not the absence of Adele’s 25 in the list. And that is rapper Kendrick Lamar with 11 nods. His strong social commentary in his album To Pimp A Butterfly resonated well among the record industry members who participated in the nominations. ALSO: Alden, Matteo, and Janine share hope for the future

DECEMBER 11 -From left: Matteo Guidicelli, Janine Gutierrez and Alden Richards, Fashion is fleeting, and trends come and go, but helping others never goes out of style
. Three of the brightest young stars in Philippine showbiz came together recently to support a campaign that aims to raise entrepreneurs from the grassroots level, equipping them with the right tools for success.
Alden Richards, Matteo Guidicelli, and Janine Gutierrez took time off from their busy schedules to help introduce a new concept in social development, a fashion and lifestyle brand under the Boardwalk brand’s charity foundation. The sub-brand is called Share, and it is innovative in the sense that instead of giving dole-outs or donations, the advocacy seeks to give its beneficiaries a leg up towards financial freedom. The Share Kita-Kits that will be distributed to the chosen beneficiaries include P2,000 worth of Boardwalk household products and life items that they can sell to start a livelihood. More than that, Boardwalk scion and Share President Ivan Madera says that the “sharepreneurs” will undergo a 10-month training program under chosen Sharementors who will help them effectively manage and handle their own small business. The funds for the Kita-Kits will be sourced from 25% of the sales from Share items which can be found in the brand’s website and also inside the Boardwalk brochure. At the moment, there are already 75 beneficiaries under the program, and 106 Kita-Kits ready for roll-out, from the P200,000 pledges from existing Boardwalk selling partners. READ MORE...

Edu Manzano’s last hurrah

MANILA, DECEMBER 14, 2015 (PHILSTAR) FUNFARE By Ricky Lo -December 9, 2015 - Edu Manzano: Moving on to the ‘next chapter of my life’ At 60 (last Sept. 14), Edu Manzano feels that, having done time in the private sector and public service, he has much to share, that’s why he has decided to run for senator under the Grace Poe-Chiz Escudero banner.

He garnered a majority of votes but his proclamation was suspended.

“Her case reminds me of what I had gone through.”

“I’m ready for the grueling campaign,” assured Edu who is, to use a cliché, fit as a fiddle. The endorser of Watson’s (with Lorna Tolentino), he was a three-time Philippine Judo Champion and was a member of the 1968-79 basketball team of De La Salle University where he studied from grade school to college. He also served with the US Air Force (Quality Control and Evaluation [QC&E], Missile Engineering Group, and Strategic Air Command).

“What can be draining is the emotional part of the campaign,” added Edu whose last stint with the government was as head of the Optical Media Board (OMB). “You see, people expect you to solve all their problems and to come up with answers for all their questions. Actually, people don’t want dole-outs, they want jobs.”

In the “next chapter” of his life, Edu plans to write his autobiography.

“It will be a tell-all book,” he promised.

Regal Matriarch Mother Lily Monteverde and Valenzuela City Rep. Sherwin ‘Win’ Gatchalian (running for senator under the Grace-Chiz banner) — PHOTO BY VER PAULINO

Why Mother Lily is endorsing Win “I believe that Win can be the Lee Kuan Yew of the Philippines.”

With that prediction, Regal Matriarch Mother Lily Monteverde announced her endorsement of Valenzuela City Rep. Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian who is, like Edu, running for senator under the Grace-Chiz banner.

In 2013, Mother Lily hosted presscons (exclusively for the movie press) for 14 senatorial aspirants, with a 98 percent batting average. But sadly, most of those she had endorsed developed amnesia when they won. Mother Lily now knows better, already selective of who she should endorse, with Win as the first.

At 41, Win has opted to stay single (last time his love life was dissected by the tabs was when he dated Pauleen Luna who is getting married to Vic Sotto early next year) because, Mother Lily pointed out, “his priority is to serve the people.”

It is said that Valenzuela City has become a bustling community through Win’s corporate-style of leadership, first as a congressman of the first district (of Valenzuela) and then as mayor of the city before he became a congressman again.

This piece should serve as a re-introduction to Win whose catchy TV ads pop the question: Kilala n’yo ba si Win Gatchalian?

Jaclyn will miss Andi It will be a somewhat blue Christmas for Jaclyn Jose who, for the first time, will be spending it without her daughter Andi Eigenmann who is moving to her newly-bought condo unit with daughter Adrianna Gabrielle.

“It will be good for Andi who will learn how to stand on her own,” Jaclyn told Funfare during the recent (usually well-attended) annual Christmas party hosted by PPL Entertainment, Inc. headed by Perry Lansigan (probably one of the few well-loved talent managers around). “From now on, she will do her own budgeting, paying the bills, doing the grocery, etc.”

But Jaclyn would make sure that her apo will spend time with her.

“I will miss her,” she said of her granddaughter whom Jaclyn treats like her own daughter. “Kaya maya’t-maya ay kukunin-kunin ko siya.”

Meanwhile, on the GMA soap Marimar, Jaclyn continues to sow intrigue between Megan Young and Tom Rodriguez in connivance with Lauren Young (as her daughter) whom Jaclyn wants for Tom. Jaclyn is a delight in her portrayal of Angelica Santibañez with her quotable quotes laced with sarcasm.

“I love my character,” laughed Jaclyn. “Medyo may pagka-ako ng kaunti, hahahaha!”

FOR CRITICIZING DUTERTE’S MORALS, GAB VALENCIANO TOLD: YOUR FATHER WAS NOT AS CLEAN EITHER December 10, 2015

MANILA, Philippines – Basically, someone wants to remind Gabriel Valenciano of the idiom“people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.”

An anonymous open letter circulating in Facebook and social media has blasted the US-based artist for criticizing Duterte’s morality especially after the latter admitted he was a womanizer. The letter goes on to say that he should firstlook at his own family’s story before judging others.

“Your own father had a girlfriend and at 19 years of age, he got another girl pregnant whilst still in another relationship,” the letter started. “That other girl is your mom. His girlfriend was Felichi Pangilinan, your mom’s younger sister. So stop talking about womanizing, values, morality, and loyalty when your own parents did not exactly do the right thing either.”

The letter also questioned the younger Valenciano why he did not condemn his own parents as he did Duterte.

“How come you never condemned your parents? And by the way, that child who was conceived out of indiscretion is you (not that it’s your fault.”

The writer stressed that he/she is not endorsing any candidate but only want Valenciano not to judge other people.

“I am not supporting any candidate nor am I condoning infidelity but look within your own family before becoming too opinionated and judgmental about someone else’s life. This is not about politics. Don’t tackle an issue that once hounded your own family. Yours is not perfect either.”

In the end, the writer said Gabriel should look to people who don’t condemn his father but instead admire him for his work.

“By the way, I like Gary V because he is a good singer and not because he was a womanizer,” the write said. “A lot of people support and admire Gary because of his talent. They did not judge his faults. Look the story up on Google and on YouTube (Angeli and Felichi opened up about it on the 700 Club show).

Gab Valenciano on Duterte: I cannot support his morality

Gab Valenciano shares his thoughts on Duterte as potential president
He says while he respect the mayor for his honesty, he cannot support his morality

Valenciano also praises Kitchie Nadal for speaking up against ‘womanizing’ in Philippine culture

MANILA, Philippines – Following the brief uproar caused by singer-songwriter Kitchie Nadal’s Facebook post urging Rodrigo Duterte to respect the marital laws of the land, another celebrity took to social media to share his thoughts on the mayor’s candidacy.

In a Facebook post, Gab Valenciano, the 27-year-old son of Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano, praised Nadal for speaking up against ‘womanizing’ in Philippine culture in general; alluding to presidential aspirant Rodrigo Duterte.

“Would you hire a murderer to look after your kids? Would you invite a thief to look after your home?” Valenciano, who currently resides in the US, wrote.

“In this case, would you, who was born and raised a Filipino with the values and morals set and taught to you by past generations, appoint a president who completely rejects the morals we Filipino’s are known for? Family. Faith. Tact,” he said.

Valenciano continued by saying that leadership does not justify compromise; adding further that the country’s greatest weakness is not government anymore, but “the people who so eagerly, desperately and blindly fall for anything that looks and sounds good.”

“No doubt, Duterte is a leader who leads, and leads well. But what about the model and nature in which that leadership is put across?” the artist said.

“Doesn’t that matter anymore? I respect him for his honesty and eagerness to lead our country back on track, but I cannot support his morality,” he added.

Gab Valenciano and Kitchie Nadal are but a few of the celebrities who expressed their sentiments regarding the presidential aspirant.

In her separate Facebook post, which has since been deleted, Nadal called on the mayor “to respect and uphold the marital laws of the land for the rest of the families.”

Valenciano ended his post by saying: “No matter how great you are at what you do, your character is what will define you and what you leave behind when everything is said and done,” before giving kudos to Nadal for bravely speaking upon her sentiments.

In the comment thread, Valenciano also clarified he is not supporting any presidential candidate and asked netizens not to take his opinion out of context.

“I am speaking about morality and what a true Filipino should stand for,” he wrote in reply to one commenter. “Yes, the others have so much garbage latched on to them as well, and I would never represent or endorse them in any way, but when any decent person boasts about dirty laundry, in this case a presidential candidate, that shouldn’t be socially acceptable.”

May-December wedding set for... January? FUNFARE By Ricky Lo (The Philippine Star) | Updated December 11, 2015 - 12:00am 2 1 googleplus0 0

Vic Sotto and sweetheart Pauleen Luna during one of their private moments — Taken from Pauleen’s Instagram

Asked how he would feel exchanging “I do’s” for the second time, after a long time, Vic joked, “This time, the ‘I do’ will be longer, ‘I dooooooooooo!’ Ganyan kahaba, hehehe!!!”

And to what song (their theme song?) will they be walking down the aisle (Pauleen will wear a gown by Francis Libiran)?

“Dessert,” he said with a straight face, referring to the song played for Wally Bayola to dance to in the Bulaga Kalyeserye.

Incidentally, will Vic’s exes be invited to the wedding?

Vic was mum. But his children and grandchildren will be members of the entourage.

“I want them, along with my in-laws, to be with us during the important event,” assured Vic. “So far,” he said in jest, “two sets of in-laws pa lang naman.”

This will be Vic’s last Christmas as a bachelor. Next year, he and Pauleen will be spending their first Christmas together in the dream house they are building. Clue to the date of their wedding: By Valentine’s next year, they shall have moved to that house.

“Almost finished, medyo na-delay lang ng kaunti,” disclosed Vic. “Finishing touches na lang, which take a bit longer.”

As usual during this season when he has an official entry, My Bebe Love, in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), Vic said that Christmas will be the same more or less.

“We will be busy promoting the movie and, of course, we will all ride on our float during the Parade of Stars (on Dec. 24, the MMFF officially opens on Dec. 25).”

It’s his second team-up with Ai-Ai. After the first, Enteng Ng Ina Mo in 2011, a follow-up was derailed by Ai-Ai’s contract with Star Cinema that prevented her from doing projects for other companies.

Ai-Ai, now a certified Kapuso, is also a co-producer on My Bebe Love, along with Vic’s M-Zet Productions, APT Entertainment, OctoArts Films, GMA Films and Meda Productions (Ai-Ai’s). Written and directed by Jose Javier Reyes, the movie marks the big-screen debut of the AlDub tandem of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza.

Holding back tears, Ai-Ai said that she’s forever grateful to Vic for not abandoning her when she was down (although not really out).

My Bebe Love is predicted to top the 2015 MMFF. That must be what Vic and his co-stars are wishing.

“Basta ang alam ko maraming nag-aabang,” said Vic. “Ang sambayanang Pilipino, ang AlDub Nation, at marami pang iba. Alden and Maine are different in this movie from who they are as Alden and Yaya Dub on the Kalyeserye.”

Any other wishes?

“More often than not, my wishes are not for myself,” admitted Vic. “Usually for my loved ones…my children and grandchildren, and my friends.”

Any special gift for Pauleen?

Turning into comic mode, Vic replied, “Myself. Ang katawan ko,” something that doesn’t need to be gift-wrapped, hehehe!!! “My gift for her is more than just material; it’s a gift of life, of love.”

By the way, how many children do Vic and Pauleen plan to have?

“Kung ilan ang ibibigay ng Panginoon,” said Vic.

We ended the interview with a short game.

Lights on or lights off?

Vic: Lights on. Takot ako sa dilim, eh.

What part of his body is his favorite?

Vic: What did I tell you that last time you asked me that question? (Hmmm, something not below the navel.) Actually, my face.

What part of Pauleen’s body is his favorite?

Vic: All you have to do is look at Pauleen. Lahat!

The sweethearts left yesterday for Hong Kong, not for an advance honeymoon but for some legit business.

Alden, Matteo, and Janine share hope for the future by Maan D’Asis Pamaran December 11, 2015 Share1 Tweet0 Share0 Email0

From left: Matteo Guidicelli, Janine Gutierrez and Alden Richards, Fashion is fleeting, and trends come and go, but helping others never goes out of style.

The three celebrities lauded the new campaign, which aims to do its part in nation-building.

Janine said, “Sometimes, people forget how simple the act of sharing is, but how big an impact it can create.”

Matteo adds that he finds Share to be a good program, particularly because of the training aspect.

“It helps our kababayans start up their own business, offering them a better future and a better life.”

Alden, who is active in advocacies such as Habitat for Humanity, says he is doing his responsibility as a celebrity to bring awareness to good causes. He encourages the Aldub fans to support this cause as well.

“I encourage everyone to do their share to help improve the Philippines. In the end, we have to rely on each other,” he said.

The AlDub phenomena has swept through the Philippines

Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza of phenomenal street sopa ALDUB

The AlDub phenomena has swept through the Philippines, making stars Maine Mendoza and Alden Richards some of the nation’s biggest stars and pushing the noontime show Eat Bulaga to record ratings.

For several months now fans have followed the love affair between the two characters, who were introduced almost by chance on the show. Since then their success has captivated the entire country, drawing millions of fans and leading to some of the largest social media campaigns the world has ever seen.
As the show’s success grows,

Alden and Maine have both secured large advertising contracts and become in a large way the face of the Philippines.

Ben Chan, the chair of Suyen Corp., knew early on in the AlDub story just how much appeal the two young faces held for fans. Chan said he wrote to the company’s managers, saying they should bring on the two as Bench endorsers.

“Bench has always chosen endorsers who capture the zeitgeist, the current mood of pop culture,” Chan told the Inquirer. “And if there’s any local show that embodies ‘Pinoy pop culture and love local,’ it’s got to be a 40-year-old institution like ‘Eat Bulaga.'”

Chan said the company finally followed through during the “Tamang Panahon,” when Alden and Yaya Dub finally met in public for the first time.

“The clamor from our market to have them at Bench made this project more exciting,” he said. “It’s all about perfect timing — tamang panahon.”

Chan said Maine Mendoza and Alden Richards are the perfect endorsers, saying “you can feel their sincerity.”

Chan said the fans demand this authentic nature, which has shown in the positive messages and overall supportive nature of AlDub’s online legion of fans.

“Alden and Maine are as positive as they come,” Chan said. “It comes as no surprise that they’re well-loved and cherished by fans. They bring happiness into people’s lives.”

Bench is putting Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza on billboards and marketing materials and even plastered to the side of trains, saying fans have responded very enthusiastically.

The AlDub drama isn’t just making Maine Mendoza and Alden Richards mega-stars — it has also helped Eat Bulaga surpass its noontime competitor, the ABS-CBN program It’s Showtime. As Philippine Entertainment Portal reported, It’s Showtime was starting to creep closer to Eat Bulaga in ratings this summer and even caught up with it in mid-July.
“However the dynamics changed on July 16, 2015, when the love team of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza was accidentally discovered,” the report noted. “With this onscreen tandem breaking the Internet, the nationwide ratings between Eat Bulaga and It’s Showtime also flipped in favor of the Kapuso show.”

From that day onward, AlDub pushed Eat Bulaga well beyond its competitor on a consistent basis. It’s Showtime topped Eat Bulaga a handful of times since then, including August 8 when Ryan Rems Sarita was named the winner of the #FunnyOneGrandFinals. Though even then it was close, with It’s Showtime generating 27.1 percent of viewers and Eat Bulaga’s #ALDUBWeBelongTogether episode registered 21.1 percent.

AlDub is blowing up on Twitter as well.

As Rappler noted, the September 26 official hashtag #ALDubEBforLOVE generated 26 million tweets, close to the all-time record of 28.4 million global tweets set during Super Bowl XLIX.

That record was then smashed by #AlDubEDTamangPanahon, which generated close to 40 million global tweets.

But almost as important as the ratings records and the endorsement deals for Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza is the show’s staying power itself.

As the romance between Yaya Dub and Alden was budding over the summer, many critics wondered how long the phenomena could last before fans started to get burned out and tired of the abrupt endings and cliffhanger moments. The fact that AlDub is still going strong now four months later shows that there may be no end to the show’s appeal.
