Ai-Ai ‘most beautiful’ in her own way

Ai-Ai delas Alas: So what makes her the ‘mostest’ in many ways?

MANILA, AUGUST 10, 2015 (PHILSTAR) FUNFARE By Ricky Lo - August 4, 2015 - Because she wasn’t included in the Yes! magazine’s list of “100 Most Beautiful,” topped by Kris Aquino, Ai-Ai delas Alas is threatening to name herself No. 1 Most Beautiful in Ailabyu, the monthly magazine she’s publishing (August to December) to commemorate her 25 years in showbiz.

“Not only No. 1 Most Beautiful,” added Ai-Ai during a lunch presscon at The Buffet (on Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City), “ako rin ang Most Powerful, Most Influential, Most Sexy, lahat na ng ‘Most.’”

Of course, she was joking. She showed rare sportsmanship by attending the “Most Beautiful” event (Yes! placed her No. 9 among The Most Powerful last year), never mind if she wasn’t even mentioned or her picture included in the flashback video.

Asked why she changed her mind about running in 2016 (for an unspecified position in Batangas), Ai-Ai, still joking, said, “Hindi pa ako decided, ayoko muna magsalita ngayon but if ever,” she added deadpan, “kapag tumakbo ako, gusto ko kalabanin si Hillary Clinton sa Amerika kasi greencard-holder na ako.”

Lest bashers again start ganging up on her, Ai-Ai hastened to add that she was just joking.

But she’s serious about publishing a magazine that will chronicle her struggles through her 25 years in showbiz, although she won’t be talking much about her love life which is generally happy with current love Gerald Sibayan, a May-October match-up that’s working out well, unlike her marriage which lasted for barely more than a month, solemnized and officially ended in Las Vegas.

The magazine will include how Ai-Ai came to the rescue of Jiro Manio who was found wandering at the airport. Ai-Ai brought Jiro to a rehab center where he’s staying for four months.

“I have a soft spot for children, especially those without mothers, kasi parang ganoon din ang buhay ko,” confessed Ai-Ai, seriously now.

Like Sen. Grace Poe and Dr. Vicki Belo, Ai-Ai grew up an adopted daughter in the care of her father’s sister, a spinster.

“My adoptive mother had an agreement with my biological parents na kapag babae ang susunod nilang anak ay ibibigay sa kanya,” related Ai-Ai, same arrangement between Vicki’s biological and adoptive mothers. “I was seven years old when I learned that I was adopted. My adoptive mother worked in a government office at palagi niya akong isinasama. Her co-employees would tell me, ‘Paano ka naging anak nya, eh, wala namang asawa ‘yon.’”

Ai-Ai would learn that her mother got sick for six months after giving her away.

“My biological father was strong-willed and my biological mother was submissive. Kung ano ang sabihin n‘ya (the father), sunud-sunuran lang ang mother ko. She couldn’t do anything when my father decided to give me to his sister for adoption, kaya nagkasakit ang tunay kong nanay.”

Still and all, Ai-Ai never harbored any bitterness against anybody (her elders are deceased) and is even generous toward her six biological siblings.

“Kung hindi ako ipina-adopt,” said Ai-Ai sans regrets, “hindi sana ako naka-pag-aral. I would have grown up in the province planting rice.”

Ai-Ai sees herself in Jiro when she was young. Jiro has aroused the maternal instinct in her (they played mother and son in a movie).

As promised, in December Ai-Ai will bring Jiro to Japan to meet his father whom Jiro hasn’t seen since he was born. With the help of Japan-based friends, Ai-Ai was able to trace the whereabouts of Jiro’s father who now has another family (Jiro’s mother is dead and he’s being cared for by a relative).

“He’s recovering,” revealed Ai-Ai. “When he was reported to have died, I visited him and took his picture. For the first time, he smiled when I photographed him.”

Jiro’s case was widely publicized because he’s an actor.

But Ai-Ai’s charity work has remained private. She sees no need to tell the whole world about them, such as (according to those close to her) her devotion to Mama Mary (Ai-Ai sponsors a Mass on Mama Mary’s birthday, Sept. 8), how she’s helping raise funds for the Kristong Hari Church (near the Iglesia ni Cristo along Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City), how she bathes an old woman (actually, three of them in the beginning) at the Missionaries of Charity in Tayuman, Tondo, Manila (where she draws strength when she’s feeling low, like when her marriage hit the rocks), who she’s supporting the education of a seminarian in Batangas (as revealed by Tempo editor Nestor Cuartero), and many more. All to be told in her book.

Meanwhile, with her first GMA show Let The Love Begin about to end, Ai-Ai is preparing for two new shows, one a game show and the other a talk show. In September, she’ll start shooting her Metro Filmfest movie with Vic Sotto and in October she’ll perform at a fund-raising concert for the construction of the church.

There. Doesn’t that make Ai-Ai “most beautiful” in her own way?

SARAH LIBERATED: Sarah Geronimo showed her first act of liberation from the strict dictates of her parents by showing up in public at a recent sporting event in Cebu where her boyfriend, Matteo Guidicelli, participated. Not only that, Sarah with the wholesome image hugged and kissed her boyfriend on the lips as captured in pictures carried in new and old media.

The singer-actress’ bold move is proof that she is slowly becoming her own person. In her mid-20s, nothing less is expected of a maturing person such as Sarah.

ACTORS NEED INSURANCE: A bad fall has caused a painful shoulder injury for Gerald Anderson during a dance rehearsal with KC Concepcion for a production number on “ASAP 20.”

The incident calls to mind the need for actors to be insured and for production companies to provide insurance to their talents, especially those who engage in strenuous, dangerous dance numbers that look like stunts. Dance numbers these days have become so complicated and intense, so that watching actors fly and soar and then drop in the arms of backup dancers can cause you a heart attack!

TV choreographers are apparently inspired by all those deathdefying acrobatic moves displayed by UAAP cheer dancers, who more than anyone need insurance before every stunt.

The question remains: Do their schools provide them with insurance?

GRACE AND I ARE FRIENDS -KRIS  August 2, 2015 1:25pm By KATHRINA CHARMAINE ALVAREZ, GMA News

PHOTO FROM KRIS' INSTAGRAM --Kris Aquino on 2016 bet: Noy will not impose on us

President Benigno Aquino III will not impose on his sisters to support Interior Secretary Manuel "Mar" Roxas II in the 2016 presidential election, his celebrity sister Kris Aquino said Sunday.

"Mahaba ang pinag-usapan namin ng brother ko. He's not the type who will ever impose," Kris told reporters.

The Queen of All Media was at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Quezon City office to transfer her voter's registration after moving residence from Makati City.

Asked whether he will support Roxas nonetheless, Kris said: "Ganito na lang ah, if I will not support the candidate of my brother, I'll shut up."

Aquino officially endorsed Roxas in a meeting of Liberal Party (LP) members on Friday at the historic Club Filipino.

The presidential sister further said President Aquino knows actress Susan Roces, the mother of Senator Grace Poe, "holds a very special place in my heart."

"Grace and I are friends. I went around with Senator Grace during the 2013 campaign...I got to know her. We're almost neighbors so we've kept in contact. We still remain in contact," she said.

Aquino had previously met with Poe to convince her to run under the LP ticket. Poe, however, said she has not made up her mind about 2016 and that she prefers to run as an independent candidate in case she decides to run for a higher position.

Kris' sisters Pinky Aquino-Abellada and Ballsy Aquino-Cruz earlier vowed to support whoever President Aquino will endorse for next year's elections.

Still good friends with Binays

Meanwhile, Kris said she and her other sisters remain good friends with the family of Vice President Jejomar Binay, the presumed standard bearer of the opposition party United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).

"We were never naman in the same ticket but my sisters and I are very good friends (with them). In particular, his daughter and private secretary Anne is really a good friend and we've maintained our friendship," she said adding that her son, Bimby, is friends with Senator Nancy Binay's children.

"I don't think naman na may lamat kasi wala namang sinabi si Noy na super evil, 'di ba? And from the start naman they knew where Noy's heart was," she added.

Kris recalled a time when she was quoted to have said that she will endorse Binay's candidacy next year. She said she was "lectured" by President Aquino.

"Oh my, God. When I turned on my phone, ang haba na ng lecture ni brother so I remember that very distinctly...Sabi ko I'd like to apologize if I put you in a bad light. Sabi ko, you know there were certain words that were taken out of context and at the end of the day, alam mo naman na ikaw ang susundin ko," she said.

Kris, however, admitted that she gets affected when the Vice President issues statements against the administration of his brother.

"Hindi ninyo maalis na when he attacks my brother, it hurts and I'm sure when Noy says stuff, they get hurt pero siguro I'd like to really believe that our friendship will survive," she said. —ALG, GMA News

Loving Madonna to the tune of P57,750 SOUNDS FAMILIAR By Baby A. Gil (The Philippine Star) | Updated August 5, 2015 - 12:00am 0 0 googleplus0 0

—AP Photo

Feb. 24, 2016 would be the first time that most Pinoys would see Madonna perform live and fans would want the best seats. These would be those closest to the stage where the Material Girl’s every wart, wrinkle, tendon, vein, etc., can be put under close scrutiny. To have those prized seats, they have to shell out a whopping P57,750 and pray that she will sing her hit songs.

What if she sings I’m Going Bananas? Pinoys paying an arm and a leg and maybe more to watch Madonna as the Queen of Pop should be treated to Material Girl, Cherish, La Isla Bonita, Take A Bow, Like A Virgin, Into The Groove, Like A Prayer, Papa Don’t Preach, Vogue, Frozen, True Blue, Borderline, Holiday, Dress You Up, Crazy For You, Sooner Or Later, This Used To Be My Playground, Justify My Love, Deeper And Deeper, Gimme All Your Lovin’, etc.

Last I heard, there were already a lot of deep-pocketed fans who have bought their tickets to the show. Why not, it might just be next year’s biggest music event. More have expressed interest in wanting to watch. That is why a second date has been announced. Madonna will now also be performing on Feb. 25, 2016 at the MOA Arena.

What can you get for P57,750? A lot. A bag from Gucci or a casual dress from Alexander McQueen if you belong to the moneyed lot. That amount can also pay for a semester in college or a trip to Hong Kong with a bit of shopping money left. It is certainly much more than what a regular worker gets in a month. Much more than what some laborers can see in a lifetime. It can feed a lot of mouths.

Sometimes, I cannot help feeling ticket prices out here are just too much and spending that much money just to watch a concert is a crime. But maybe, it is only because I cannot afford to spend so much for that kind of ticket. Whatever. I am conscience-stricken.

Besides, I am also afraid that now that local promoters have found out that people here can afford to put out that kind of money for a show, they will be pricing their next big acts in the same bracket.

Anyway, if you do love Madonna and must definitely be there at the MOA, you can also get tickets for P52,500 (Patron VIP and VIP Floor); P42,000 (Patron); P33,600 (Lower Box, VIP); P29,400 (Lower Box); P8,400 (Upper Box); P3,150 (General Admission). Okay, it will only be a tiny Madonna for P3,150 but beggars can’t be choosers. Besides, you will hear the music and at that price, you can be with your friends, which should make the experience doubly enjoyable.

Now, let us go to the other side. I mean to the coming visit of a hot young artist, with songs in the charts of the world nowadays. He will also be at the MOA and his concert date will be on Nov. 21. The guy is four-time Grammy winner Sam Smith and bless him and his promoters for the affordable ticket prices.

You can watch Smith, of the big hits Stay With Me, La La La, Lay Me Down, Money On My Mind and I’m Not The Only One from the album In The Lonely Hour, for only P6,830 for Patron tickets. The rest of the prices are even better. P4,730 (Lower Box); P2,100 (Upper Box); and P1,050 (General Admission).

I know Brit star Smith is no pop icon yet. We do not even know if he will be able to duplicate the success of his first album. Still, I am sure he will put on a good show. You can listen to that voice of his anywhere and he will sound great. Besides, I will not be bothered that I maxed out my credit card and will be slaving to meet payments just to watch a concert.

Somewhat steep but quite reasonable given the stature of its frontman are the tickets to Maroon 5, also at the MOA on Sept. 17. The show also features the Swedish band Dirty Loops and will cost fans P15,900 (VIP); P12,720 (Patron); P10,600 (Lower Box A); P8,480 (Lower Box B); P5,300 (Upper Box); P2,120 (General Admission).

Maroon 5 lead vocalist is no other but Adam Levine, the sexy star coach of The Voice, the high-rating US talent show on television. He also has this incredible voice with a gorgeous falsetto. Some of Maroon 5’s biggest hits are Sugar, Animals, Maps, One More Night, Move Like Jagger, This Love, Makes Me Wonder and Harder To Breathe. Should be worth the cost.

Zanjoe, Bea on their relationship By Joseph Peter R. Gonzales | Aug. 02, 2015 at 05:30pm

Zanjoe Marudo and Bea Alonzo

At this point when talks are rife that their relationship is on the rocks, Zanjoe Marudo and Bea Alonzo finally break their silence.

“Well, it’s true that we are undergoing difficult times now,” admits the former. “But I guess it’s just normal for any relationship to be experiencing low moments also. Actually, this is not the first time that we went through something like this. A couple of times already.

“What’s important is the love you feel in your heart. As long as it’s there, you can still be in control. With your love for each other, your relationship can withstand any problem that comes your way. At the end of the day, no matter what, you two are still together.”

In their recent travel to London where they had a show, many witnessed their sweetness.

“Actually, that trip proved to be good for our relationship. We were happy there. We really enjoyed ourselves. It was the breather that we needed…”

For Bea, it’s part of the package.

“Anyone who enters a relationship won’t be spared from this. It’s just normal. What matters is how you handle things…how you handle yourself after all these came to pass. It’s good that right now, Zanjoe and I are working it out. We’re good. We’re happy,” she says.

As to the alleged rumor that Bea and Paulo Avelino are dating these days, Zanjoe says, “That’s the unpleasant part! Other people get dragged to the issue. That’s unfair to them and to us, too. The public doesn’t really know all the ins and outs in my relationship with Bea.

“They don’t really know the good relationship we’ve built for years now…its innermost state. What they see on public is just onion-skin deep. It’s not fair that it gets tainted because of such malicious rumor, right?”

According to Vina Morales, she also wants to have a serious love life at this point.

“Yes, it’s been six years already,” she states. “I’m already getting impatient in the process. Ha-ha-ha! I’m dating of course, but I just haven’t found yet the guy in whom I’ll feel the spark, so to speak.

Vina Morales

“Actually, they’re just plain dates. I go out but it’s not what you can call exclusive. Well, how I wish! Ha-ha-ha! But there’s really no one special now.”

The talented actress-singer admits she’s choosy now when it comes to the next guy she’ll give her heart to.

“Maybe, it can be attributed to maturity. I’m always open if a guy asks me for a date. But as I’ve said, if there’s no spark at all, I choose not to prolong the situation. I guess, that’s practical enough, right?”

One of her foremost considerations in entering a relationship is her six-year-old daughter Ceana.

“Oh yes, she’s my top priority. The guy should not only prioritize me but my child as well. I can say that’s one trait I’ll heavily consider in a guy if ever I fell for him. It’s like Ceana and I are a package. He should treat us as one!”

Many ask if her daughter is already looking for a father figure given her inquisitive stage.

“To be honest, nope. What she prays for is to have a sibling, although for me, a daddy is more important. Let’s just see in the coming days,” ends Vina.
