Once a winner, always a winner. That aptly describes Derek Ramsay who continues to be on a winning streak after his landmark Best Actor victory at last December’s Metro Filmfest for his performance in the sleeper hit English Only, Please! (Second Best Picture and Jennylyn Mercado Best Actress, among the other awards). Not only that. Derek is also perhaps the topnotch and most popular male endorser of various consumer brands (Belo Men, Dunkin’ Donuts, Tanduay, Smart, Boardwalk, etc.) and a winner in his other passion — sports and yes, entertainment. The TV5 star is on a roll! In sports, Derek’s series of wins started with his strong second place finish at the Toyota Vios Car Racing Cup held recently in Nasugbu, Batangas. Although a neophyte racer, Derek beat experienced race drivers who also competed in the event. “Amongst his peers in the industry,” gushed his manager Joji Dingdong, “Derek is really a class of his own. His passion in anything he does is his real ticket to excellence.”  What’s more, last week Derek finally conquered Mt. Pulag, Luzon’s highest peak, and the third in the country, rising more than 2,920 meters above sea level. The arduous four/five-hour trek really can test one’s strength and endurance. “From the peak,” Derek told Funfare, “you get an incredibly mesmerizing view of the place below. The triumphant feeling is priceless. Going down is a bit faster, taking only less than four hours depending on your pace.”  However, for Derek’s group it took longer because he had to accommodate fellow mountaineers and even children (residents of the area) that he encountered along the way for selfies and photo ops. At the recently-concluded Guillermo Mendoza Foundation event, he was named Blockbuster Actor in a Breakthrough Indie Film for English Only, Please! Parents and their estranged daughter finally broke bread but without the cheese, or rather, Chiz.

Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero said on Tuesday that slowly but surely, he and his wife’s parents are starting to fix whatever conflicts they have had in the past.

Heart Evangelista's parents might have failed to attend their daughter's wedding day but Reynaldo Ongpauco did not forget to greet her on her special day. The actress’ father sent a surprise letter to her which was read by Heart’s cousin, Happy Ongpauco, at the wedding reception. Caught by surprise, the letter moved Heart to tears

The senator refused to give further details about the visit. He said what is more important is that it went well and that it was going to the right direction.

“Sana magpatuloy ‘yun at buo ang pag-asa ko na maututuloy nang ganun yun (Let us hope it will continue that way and I have full faith that it will,” Escudero added.

In can be recalled that Heart’s disapproving parents accused the senator in March 2013 of being disrespectful and arrogant, and “manipulating” their daughter into “going against her family.”

Asked if her daughters would approve if she ties the knot with Conrad, she said: “I think so. I don’t know. I haven’t asked anybody.”

“I haven’t really asked my kids. But they have so much love and respect for me that they just want to see me happy,” she added,

The ABS-CBN artist also dispelled talks that Conrad is already building her their “dream house.”

Zsa Zsa said, despite her beau’s occupation, her dream house is actually quite simple.

“My dream house is a bungalow. It’s a two-bedroom bungalow,” she said.

“It’s just our room and—since we have five kids between us, just his two boys and my three girls—I said we’ll have one room in case the children need to be with us. One at a time and they don’t stay there for long ha,” Zsa Zsa quipped.

“I realize that when you get older, you go back to how it was,” she said.

Zsa Zsa talked to members of the press to promote her upcoming concert titled “Beginnings,” which will be held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater at the Resorts World Manila on July 31.

“Beginnings” is also the title of her new album. Does this signify that she has already forgotten her life with Dolphy.

“No, never,” Zsa Zsa said.

She further explained, “Hindi pwedeng sabihin na you found a new love e that’s already forgotten. That is never forgotten. It’s just that you are moving forward with your life. In this relationship that I have now, if it doesn’t work I will just move forward again. Because that’s how life is.”

“There is forever, even when it ends ... Even if mawala na yung partner mo for some reason, there’s still that love. It remains,” Zsa Zsa added.

Annabelle vs. Ruffa: Who will back down? by Rowena Tan May 27, 2015

RUFFA GUTIERREZ and Annabelle Rama

Annabelle Rama and Ruffa Gutierrez have yet to put their differences aside over the latter’s relationship with French-Arab Jordan Mouyal, but one thing’s for sure: Daughter will never stop trying to reconcile with mom.

The issue between them started after Ruffa’s appearance on a magazine cover with Jordan some months ago. Apparently, she did it without the consent of Annabelle, who is also her manager.

Asked about the ongoing debacle, Ruffa shared, “Never pang sumuko ’yan si Mommy. Kahit na isang linggo or isang taon pa kayong ’di mag-usap niyan.”

She may be frustrated with Annabelle’s constant nagging about her love life but Ruffa pointed out, “She will always be there for you… she is like a lion that will fight everyone just to protect her cubs.”

Annabelle Rama strikes anew against daughter Ruffa Gutierrez. It was a known fact that the Gutierrez matriarch is disfavor of her daughter's relationship with French-Arab businessman Jordan Mouyal.

The actress attested that even though they do not usually see eye to eye on a lot of things, her mother has a big heart.

“When it comes to trials, you know naman that we have experienced so many ups and downs, but we know that we will eliminate all those problems and magkakabati-bati rin kami,” she said.

The 40-year-old mother of two is also thankful that her mom had been strict with her while growing up. Despite how she was raised, however, Ruffa has her own ideas on raising her kids, Lorin and Venice.

Less strict with her young daughters, Ruffa allows them to be their own person so that they can explore their full potential. Still, she remains alert as a parent, and continually monitors what they are doing.

Ruffa admits her family isn’t perfect, but she gets her strength from them. “Sometimes we have joyful and stressful experiences. Nag-aaway talaga kami kasi everybody has different opinions and different ways of doing things,” she said.

In perfect time

Annabelle believes time heals all wounds and perhaps, sooner than later, she and Ruffa will be able to rekindle their relationship.

“Plastikan kami hanggang ngayon. Hindi ko siya mapapatawad… Ayoko siyang batiin na wala pa sa time na batiin ko siya… hindi ko pinipilit,” she maintained.

Annabelle admitted she got emotional when her daughter tried to apologize to her, but she is keeping her ground for Ruffa’s own good.

EX-(annulled)HUSBAND Yilmaz Bektas and Ruffa Gutierrez

The GUTZ: Ruffa with children Loren and Venice Bektas

“Marami nagsasabi, ‘Ang arte-arte, hindi pa binabati (iyong) anak niya, binabati na nga siya,’” she said. Possibly to avoid any untoward encounters, the talent manager avoids social gatherings she knows Ruffa is invited to. “Hindi ako uma-attend talaga. Sila-sila na lang…” she said.

The family patriarch, Eddie Gutierrez, keeps his position neutral.

“Alam n’yo, nu’ng araw, lagi akong kumakampi kay Ruffa, at ang nagiging ending, kami ni Annabelle ang nag-aaway. So, ngayon, wala na akong kinakampihan. Kasi, para sa akin, pareho silang tama. Annabelle wants what’s best for Ruffa, but Ruffa has a life of her own,” he said.

Nonetheless, Eddie is thankful of Annabelle’s efforts. “Marami na kaming pinagdaanan pero kahit maraming action sa family namin, andiyan pa rin siya at nagmamahalan kami,” he said.

As a mother of six, Annabelle admitted she had a hard time raising her children, who are all brave and independent.

“Diyos ko, ang hirap. ’Di ko alam kung paano ko sila napalaki, kung paano sila ganyan kagagaling mag-English,” she said.

Hello, Season 3

The mother-and-daughter team of Ruffa and Annabelle returns to “It Takes Gutz To Be A Gutierrez” Season 3 with more interesting tidbits about Ruffa’s controversial love life.

“It Takes Gutz To Be A Gutierrez,” which will start airing in July on E! Channel, follows the Gutierrezes and their extended family from their daily household routines to their showbiz engagements.

“Ang masasabi ko lang ay karapat-dapat talaga kaming panuorin kasi lahat kaming pamiya ay sira ulo eh – away dito, away doon maski walang camera,” Annabelle said.

The season 1 and 2 of the reality TV show will also start airing on ABS-CBN’s The Filipino Channel (TFC) by June 6. It will premiere in North America, Middle East, Europe, Australia and the rest of Asia Pacific.

Also part of the series are Richard’s girlfriend Sarah Lahbati and their son, Zion; and Ruffa’s children with former husband Yilmaz Bektas. (With report from Jojo P. Panaligan)

MANILA, Philippines – A lesbian mom criticized GMA-7’s noontime talk show “Eat Bulaga” over an advice it gave a gay father recently.

During the “Problem Solving” segment in the May 22 episode of the noontime show, a “beki Dabarkas” guest who introduced himself as Diamond asked the “Eat Bulaga” hosts for advice on how to prevent his children from being discriminated for having a gay father.

In a popular Facebook post, a certain Cha Roque, who identified herself as a “single lesbian mom,” criticized “Eat Bulaga” for the advice they gave Diamond.

"I was appalled at how you handled the situation: how you suggested that this guy should go back to the closet so his kids won't be discriminated is like saying that homosexuality is a sin. You made it appear like homosexuality is a disease and that he should keep it from his kids so as not to ‘infect’ them with it. I feel sad for the guy for trusting you with what he is going through only to be treated that way," she wrote.

She further said, “Don't you have gay or lesbian colleagues or staff in your show?

What if the participant was a lesbian mom? Would you ask her to go back to the closet as well?

Would you say the same to Aiza Seguerra if he was in the situation?”

“He’s certain pa rin,” she replied, confirming the reports about Robin’s plan to move to U.S., in an interview on Wednesday. “Siyempre sasama ako di ba? Pero alam ko hindi pa ngayon na ngayon kasi pinayagan niya pa akong gawin ‘to, e.”

The couple doesn’t have a definite plan yet about their move, but Mariel trusts her husband’s decisions.

“In our marriage, I’m the follower, he’s the boss. So kung anong sinabi niya do’n ako,” she said. “Nang nagpakasal ako iniwan ko lahat, ngayon pa ba ako matatakot? Excited ako siyempre, basta will ni God it will happen.”

Meanwhile, Mariel has already moved on from her recent miscarriage with her supposedly first child with Robin.

The Kapatid host said it was indeed an emotional moment in her life, but she got through it with the help of her family, friends, especially Robin.

However, she said that “minsan mayro’n pa rin [lungkot], but since I’m really busy, it’s good. Ito ‘yong time na masasabi nating it’s good to be busy.”

Mariel added that they do want to have a child, but they don’t plan to try again anytime soon.

Derek’s winning streak FUNFARE By Ricky Lo (The Philippine Star) | Updated May 30, 2015 - 12:00am

His passion in anything he does is his real ticket to excellence.”

What’s more, last week Derek finally conquered Mt.

Going down is a bit faster, taking only less than four hours depending on your pace.”

However, for Derek’s group it took longer because he had to accommodate fellow mountaineers and even children (residents of the area) that he encountered along the way for selfies and photo ops.

At the recently-concluded Guillermo Mendoza Foundation event, he was named Blockbuster Actor in a Breakthrough Indie Film for English Only, Please! According to one juror, “Derek Ramsay is really one of Philippine cinema’s game changers.”

Private time with Sec. Mar and Korina

DILG Secretary Mar Roxas and wife Korina Sanchez-Roxas were recently spotted camping and hiking in the woods of Baguio City.

How did the couple do it, considering how hectic their schedules are?

Besides his duties as DILG secretary, Mar is also preoccupied with looking for his runningmate in the 2016 presidential race (could it really be Sen. Grace Poe?) while Korina is juggling her time studying (she is currently taking her Masters in Journalism at the Ateneo) and her work as host of Rated K which is celebrating its 10th anniversary as one of the consistent top-rating programs of ABS-CBN.

“We always squeeze time out for ourselves,” said Korina.

As a certified power couple, do Mar and Korina spend their private time at a high-end place? Guess again. On the contrary, the couple takes pleasure in simple activity such as camping and hiking — that is, enjoy watching movies and their favorite TV series. They also love playing with and taking care of three pet dogs.

Yes, camping.

“We had a great time,” added Korina. “Sabi ni Mar, it was the best vacation that we ever spent together. You see, Mar is a frustrated MacGyver. He’s an all-around guy who loves nature and the basics in life. Of course, he had to teach me the ropes, literally. We used a lot of ropes putting up our outdoor shelter. And he taught me how to tie different kinds of knots, something new and exciting. I recommend it to couples who really want to bond. What better way but to rely on just each other and nature, like Adam and Eve.”

By the way, Korina didn’t reveal what they did inside the tent. Like, ehem, what Adam and Eve did in Eden?
