Pacquiao left ahead of his guests to change clothes as he had to attend the final weigh-in of the weight loss contest he sponsored for Team Pacquiao members and other supporters at Florentine Gardens, a 1930s entertainment center, here.

Former boxer Arnel Fontanilla, reaping the benefits of running alongside Pacquiao daily, and Kharzma Tan, who trimmed down on crackers, fruits and exercise, emerged champions in the men’s and women’s division, respectively. In all, 63 finalists vied for the $10,000 top prizes.

Pacquiao draws huge crowd at church service Mark Giongco @MGiongcoINQ INQUIRER.net 8:45 AM | Monday, April 20th, 2015

HOLLYWOOD — A certified global star, Manny Pacquiao draws huge crowds wherever he goes and a church service is no exception.

Pacquiao’s mere presence at Shepherd of the Hills Church was a scene by itself in an otherwise serene vicinity.

“It’s getting worse,” a woman giving media IDs told her fellow attendant of the situation when Pacquiao, a born-again Christian convert, attends the church service with pastor Dudley Rutherford.

Pacquiao came with his wife Jinkee, mother Dionesia and four children along with some of his entourage members. The WBO welterweight champion was mobbed as he arrived and left looking like a Hollywood celebrity than a star boxer on board his shining black Mercedes Benz.

“He comes to church here when he’s training in [Los Angeles] in Shepherd Church. A lot of people are here because he tells people to go to church,” Rutherford told INQUIRER.net. “But he’s a man of faith. And I hope that more than just fighting, people would realize that he’s a man who loves God.”

Rutherford said he hopes to watch Pacquiao’s May 2 megafight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in Las Vegas live but added that Pacquiao hasn’t promised him a ticket for the showdown.

“I’m a fan of anybody who wants to grow in the Lord and he wants to grow in the Lord so I’m a big fan,” Rutherford said. “I hope to be there. He hasn’t promised me anything but he takes care of me.”

Pacquiao and his whole team then headed to Kabuki, a Japanese restaurant along Vine near the iconic Hollywood and Sunset boulevards, for a sumptuous lunch.

Pacquiao goes back to his routine training session on Monday.

Jinkee is the wife of Philippine boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, and mother of their five beautiful children.

She is also the Vice Governor of Sarangani, a province of the southern island of Mindanao. It was reported that she had been propelled into this seat because her husband Manny, was reluctant to choose between two friends who both wanted his endorsement for the same political position.

But besides being a committed public servant, and a strong, courageous wife and mother, Jinkee is above all, a devoted Christian woman.

When Jinkee entered politics, it was not because she had only wanted the title of “Vice Governor” nor the perks that came with the role. (She was after all, already the wife of a worldwide superstar and would not need more fame or media attention) But because Jinkee is a God- fearing woman, and her decision to enter politics may have been based simply on God’s great commandment, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself”.

She knew that she could make a difference for so many by being the voice of the people.

She could help improve schools , hospitals and show to people that those who enter the political calling must believe in their hearts that the constituency they represent are far more important than their own selves.

And that someone can be of real service to people without being driven into the dirty game of politics and corruption.

Jinkee’s leadership abilities have been tested and proven. She is not just a pretty face occupying a place in government. She has become a servant leader in government.

She knows the needs of her “province-mates,” having grew up from simple beginnings in Kiamba municipality in Sarangani.

She quietly serves by drawing from her own resources, and build ‘foundations’ that aim to provide basic amenities like water, electricity and livelihood training for her people.

She has opened her life to the people she serves, and hopes to become an example for many other women to follow in their own journeys through life.

And Jinkee has shown the way on smoothening the tangled paths of life in spotlight both personal and political, by putting God first in everything.

Pacquiao’s Little Secret? 07 Dec 2014 Ramon Serrano Ramon Serrano  1 3  383  2

Pacquiao at his Gen San home playing the piano

“Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us.” ~ Martin Luther

Did you know that Manny Pacquiao has recorded music albums already? You can check out his “Laban Nating Lahat Ito” and “Pac- Man Punch” albums which were recorded sometime in 2006 and 2007 and see his affinity with the art.

Yes, Manny loves music and music has always been a big part of him, since his younger days in General Santos City in Mindanao.

Boxing is obviously a mind and body sport. A boxer will find it hard to win, without these two components. While many may see how Manny endures all the pain in training to reach his exceptional physical state, very few would maybe notice that music seems to be an important part of his training system.

As a preparation for his fights, Manny undergoes rigorous physical conditioning. However, the body will only tolerate so much pain. And in order to prepare him for the next day’s demanding exercises, we believe that he calms and sharpens his mind through prayers and music.

That may probably explain why Manny always brings his guitar along or some musical instruments to his training environment.

At home, he plays his grand piano, deciphering the notes from what he hears, and plays the chords and melody lines for his entertainment and relaxation.

So what music does he play to please himself?

We all know Manny’s beginnings. Being the hardworking young man while he was starting out to earn for the needs of his family, Manny would have turned to listening to popular music on the radio and music recordings.

These would have somehow helped enlighten his soul and provide motivational strength to keep on pursuing his dreams.

These music would have been also mostly Filipino R&B that often speak of silver linings and hope for the future. They would have also talked about love and joys from everyday living.

So don’t be surprised to see our boxing hero on his smartphone tuned into songs from the late great Filipino singer Willy Garte. For this reminds Manny of his past, his struggling youthful years and his triumphs over those great odds.

In a way, music could be one of Manny’s secret ways of encouraging himself to remember past lessons, stay grounded while reaching out to overcome his limits. But what is in music anyway that feeds the mind and soul of a person?

Many sports psychologists have concluded from researches that music is a complementary element of sports.

During our high school days, we probably still remember how the marching band play while we chant to boost our team’s morale during sports competitions. Of course, everyone knows the tune “We Are the Champions” by the Queen.

That song has become a popular anthem in many sporting events and even victory rallies. In fact, the song has been used as the official theme song for 1994 FIFA World Cup.

But what about music and prayer?

We also always see Manny saying short prayers in his corner before the fight. We can say that this has become his trademark. And don’t we hear people say, particularly Christian brothers, that singing praise amounts to twice praying. Is it possible that Manny’s little secret is his praise music in his bouts?

That will be an interesting thing to speculate about. There is one thing however that we can be sure of, that music will always have a special place in Manny’s life.

Raised on the streets of the Philippines, many times going without food or shelter, Manny survived. Manny never imagined that one day he would become the “World’s Greatest in Boxing.”

Manny was introduced to boxing by one of his uncles. There in front of a TV, the seed was planted.

And at the age 16, Manny had his first professional bout. In the beginning Manny only boxed to make enough money to feed his family. For boxing was only the means to eat and slowly fight himself out of poverty.

Today, Manny is the only boxer in history to hold 8 Division World Championship belts, 10 World Championships, and Pound for Pound the best fighter in history.

But with all his life experiences, rags to riches and stardom, who is the real Manny Pacquiao?

Somewhere between Poverty and 8 World titles, Manny became a Man. He will be the first to admit he has done some foolish things in his life, but what he has done with the rest of his life has shaped him to be “the People’s Champion,” a champion from the working class.

It would be difficult to explain or possibly describe the compassion Manny has for his fellow man.

Maybe it’s because he truly knows what the pangs of hunger feel like. He knows what the asphalt streets are like to sleep on, and knows the painful cry of a baby in need of attention and love. He knows what the meaning of hope is, for those alone and unwanted.

As Manny’s fame grew so did his ability to do more for his countrymen. Manny once told a reporter who was interviewing him, “ the only reason I became a Congressman was to help my countrymen more.”

Manny wanted to lead by example, he has realized that he alone could not end poverty in his country by sharing money, “his money,” he realized that the government has a responsibility to the people of the Philippines.

Manny’s impact being elected into the House of Representatives has brought attention to the hardships of the homeless, to the abused women and children, human trafficking, just to name a few.

Even with his intense training schedule, Manny continues to meet with Congressional staff and local government officials. Sometimes working well into the night with his staff. Manny puts the people’s business first. His political position is important and is not taken lightly, and he always puts the service of the people above all else. Manny even helps those outside his congressional district.

In Dec 2013, he organized a relief effort, donating a large amount of money, and supplying food and water to the victims of Tacloban “Yolanda (Haiyan) Survivors.“

Manny traveled to the Typhoon stricken areas and met with those victims, passing precious food and water out. He gave inspirational speeches, assuring them that the government would not forget them in their hour of need.

Because of his fame in boxing, Manny has been able do more for his country by bringing attention to it globally. He has used his reputation not for himself but to help his fellow Filipinos.

When The United States President Barack Obama visited the Philippines late April of 2014, one of his first questions was “Where is Manny Pacquiao?”

Across the world, Manny Pacquiao is known and admired for his work with the less fortunate.

I wonder if the Philippine people know the value of those many miles Manny has run , the value of each punch he has received or thrown , the many days he sacrificed away from his family for the good of others, the caring heart has paid dividends not for himself but only for his love of country.

So why does Manny do all the things he does? Because, he is devoted to his faith in God, committed to to his country and because he is a one-of- a- kind human being.

Mayor Herbert’s new girl FUNFARE By Ricky Lo (The Philippine Star) | Updated April 14, 2015 - 12:00am

With similar backgrounds in both showbiz and politics, QC Mayor Herbert Bautista and Korean Assemblywoman Jasmine Lee — also both single and available — seemed to hit it off during their first meeting at the Philippine Ambassador’s residence in Seoul, South Korea

Oops! Sorry for today’s headline which is jumping to a conclusion. Yes, Mayor Herbert Bautista, the Eminent Lover Boy of Quezon City, is on the brink of falling in love again barely a year after the unlamented breakup of his and Kris Aquino’s “work in progress” (as Kris loved to call it).

But no, Mayor HB and the “new girl” making his heart beat faster and faster again are not yet going steady (but who knows how soon they will be, huh!). It’s too early to tell.

The lady is none other than Jasmine Lee, the Filipino actress/TV host who is originally from Davao and is the first foreign-born member of the South Korean National Assembly, and an advocate of multi-culturalism in Korea.

According to Funfare sources, Jasmine married a Korean (by whom she has two children) who died in 2010. She acquired Korean citizenship soon after their marriage in 1995.

Only 37, Jasmine is said to be a deadringer for Parañaque City Councilor Alma Moreno who, coincidentally, is the ex-wife of Kris’ ex-lover ex-Parañaque City Mayor Joey Marquez. (Today’s story is full of “exes,” in case you don’t notice.)

“Mayor HB is badly-smitten with Miss Jasmine,” said Funfare’s Seoul DPA, “as in mesmerized. He and Miss Jasmine were introduced to each other by Ambassador Raul Hernandez at a dinner he hosted at the Philippine Embassy in Seoul where Mayor HB attended a global conference with two Quezon City lady councilors last week.”

“Mayor HB was instantly lovestruck,” added the DPA. “Biglang tumatak si Miss Jasmine hindi lang sa isip ni Mayor HB kundi pati rin sa puso niya. He and Jasmine were engaged in animated conversation the whole evening.

I’m sure Mayor HB learned a lot about North and South Korea from Jasmine whom he found smart and baklang-bakla (lively). Pareho silang may showbiz and political background kaya super bagay sila. Jasmine is single now, very eligible.”

No problem really since Mayor HB is, like Kris’ Kuya (Pres. Noynoy), a confirmed bachelor since he was not married to either of the two women he was involved with.

He has one child from the first relationship and three from the second one. (Incidentally, the late Comedy King Dolphy had 17 children by four, or was it five, different women with Zsa Zsa Padilla as the last one but was never married to any of them.)

It was also Funfare who broke the story about Mayor HB and Kris early last year.

The story mentioned that Mayor HB asked Pres. Noynoy’s permission before formally courting Kris who confirmed that their relationship was a “work in progress,” even if Mayor HB did, as also reported as a scoop in Funfare, propose marriage to Kris but unceremoniously withdrew it a week later, badly hurting Kris who is famous for initiating the split-up of her relationships with Phillip Salvador (father of her son Joshua), Joey Marquez and James Yap (the only man she married, father of her son Bimby).

Obviously, concern for his children’s feelings won over his (fleeting?) love for Kris. They have remained friends, or so they claimed.

Mayor HB admitted that he has moved on while Kris seems to be still trying to do the same since she would hark back to that “work that didn’t progress” every now and then.

But knowing how Kris is able to spring back from setbacks in her love life, I am sure that, to paraphrase a song from the movie-musical South Pacific, she would shortly “wash that man out of her hair” and, hopefully, find a new love.

Meanwhile, the Q.C. Lover Boy is working on a movie titled Lumayo Ka Nga Sa Akin (not based on the late Rodel Naval’s hit song Lumayo Ka Man Sa Akin which inspired a Seiko movie) which may not be referring to anybody (peksman, hehehe!!!). Produced by Viva Films, the movie is a trilogy with Maricel Soriano as Lover Boy HB’s leading lady in his episode.

Incidentally, can Lover Boy HB and Assemblywoman Jasmine Lee’s budding, ehem, “romance” be also described as a “work in progress?”
