CONVICTED BANK ROBBER CURRENTLY PRISONER --Herbert Colanggo, who adopted the name “Herbert C,” won the “New Male Recording Artist”. He has a luxurious living quarters in prison with fully equipped music studio.

MANILA, DECEMBER 22, 2014 (INQUIRER) Aries Joseph Hegina @inquirerdotnet

MANILA, Philippines–The convict who owns the fully-equipped music studio discovered during the raid of luxurious living quarters of 19 convicts at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) last Monday has won a music award and an album which reached platinum status under his belt.

Herbert Colanggo, who adopted the name “Herbert C,” won the “New Male Recording Artist” award at the 6th Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Music last September for his debut album titled “Herbert C: Kinabukasan,” according to a report from entertainment news website Pep.ph.

Colanggo shared the award with actor Richard Yap.

The music video for his album’s carrier single, “Pa’no Yun,” was shot in his luxurious “kubol” at the NBP.

His hit album, which features 10 tracks and released under Ivory Records, has reached gold and platinum status last May.

In a separate interview with the same website, Colanggo cited the late Michael Jackson as his number one music idol, and said that in the local music scene, he adores Martin Nievera, Rodel Naval, Ariel Rivera, and Freddie Aguilar.

A convicted bank robber, Colanggo came under fire last May because he was brought outside the NBP to seek treatment for his purported urinary tract infection. During Monday’s raid, authorities discovered eight watches -five Rolex, one Philip Stein and one Cartier–in his possession.

Convict Herbert Colangco’s room at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City rocks with a music studio.

The raid, led by Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, yielded expensive watches, a life-sized sex doll, sauna, jacuzzi, among other luxurious amenities and items found in the quarters of 19 “very important prisoners” at the Maximum Security Compound in the NBP.

MANILA - Herbert Colangco, the convicted armed robber who has made a career as a recording artist from the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP), now gets to reach his audience via popular online platforms like iTunes and Spotify.

Producer Ivory Music and Video, it appears, made available Colangco's album "Kinabukasan" on the streaming services after it was released in February this year.

Colangco is credited by his stage name, Herbert C.

The 10-track album costs $3.99 or about P178, according to its page on iTunes. Although available for streaming on Spotify, none of Colangco's tracks has been played more than a thousand times on the music service.

The awards he has received for "Kinabukasan," however, tell a different story.

A month after the album's release, Ivory conferred on Colangco a platinum record award during one of his charity concerts inside the NBP. In the Philippines, the award signifies that an album has sold at least 15,000 copies.

Also for "Kinabukasan," Colangco tied with ABS-CBN actor Richard Yap in September as the New Male Recording Artist of the Year at the 6th Star Awards for Music.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News in April, Colangco said he had always wanted to become a recording artist.

"Pinalaki ako nang maayos ng mga magulang ko, pero ako ay naligaw ng landas sa buhay [dahil] sa kahirapan. Hindi ko in-expect na magiging recording artist ako, pinangarap ko lang 'to, pero hindi ko akalain na magigin platinum pa [ang album ko."

One of Colangco's music videos, which can be seen on his YouTube page, was shot at a music studio inside his cell in the NBP's maximum security compound.

Colangco has been serving his 12- to 14-year sentence since 2009.

A surprise inspection early this week found the Colangco's quarters is carpeted and has an air-conditioned second level that supposedly serves as the robbery gang leader's office. Inspectors also found six expensive wrist watches in his cell.

The luxurious items in his quarters were donations, Colangco said. He added that officials of the Bureau of Corrections were aware of them.

Colangco and the other inmates who were found to have luxurious cells have been removed from the NBP and taken to a high-security facility of the Department of Justice.

On the other hand, Marina Benipayo’s billowy and shimmery cloak and gown, encrusted with fastidious beadwork, mimicking the sea coral was also glistening under the sun.

A fascination for Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao’s (ARMM) marine life was translated in the fashion collection of Tausug designer, Amir Sali, one of the highlights of Gabi ng Kultura at Kasaysayan at the 25th anniversary celebration of ARMM.

Held at the ARMM compound in Cotabato City, the event was one of the last hurrahs of the ARMM. It was attended by Lanao’s local government officials headed by town mayors Nashiba Sumagayan, Ahl Sumandar, Al Rashid Macapodi and Mamintal Razuman; Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) assistant secretary Nariman Ambolodto.

Ryan ‘Mr. C’ Cayabyab (with Gerard Salonga, right) possesses the ability to bring the audiences closer to the magic and power of music throughout the decades

As the pride of the region, Sali combined haute couture sensibility with an imagination for the sublime. Beyond fashion, he created spectacles with lavish fabrics interpreted in unconventional silhouettes, exaggerated ruffles and fastidious beadwork and embroidery. Thus, the title “Prince of Beads.” The creative palette went beyond gowns. Sali produced dramatic headdresses and turbans in outlandish shapes to create a total unique look.

“ARMM’s 25th year was more remarkable and sentimental yet grander,” said Princess Sitti Djalia Hataman.

The event also featured the rich culture of the Maranao, Yakan, Tausog, Iranun and Maguindanaons. Visitors experienced the unique architecture of the South in the mini-village, the exotic songs and dances and the costume parade.

After 25 years, the ARMM will give way to the new Bangsamoro government which will inherit a “silver lining from a reformed ARMM bureaucracy,” said Regional Gov. Mujiv Hataman.

The ARMM is composed of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Basilan and the Islamic City of Marawi and Lamitan City. The month-long anniversary celebration will end tomorrow, Dec. 19. — Ayunan Gunting

Temperamental artist goes berserk on the set the Entertainment staff
@inquirerdotnet Philippine Daily Inquirer 12:20 AM | Wednesday, December 17th, 2014

Someone is not in a joyous mood, even in this season of glad tidings.

Temperamental Artist (TA) didn’t like how things were unfolding on the set of a recent project and went berserk, throwing and kicking things like a rampaging beast. Colleagues were stumped.

Then, storming out of the room, TA shrieked: “How dare all of you?! Don’t you know who I am?” Unfortunately, most of the people in the room didn’t.

Well-meaning Friend (WF) tried to intervene, but TA was livid and started cursing WF.

Apparently, TA had forgotten about WF’s past generosity.

Unrecognizable you

She is much too young to undergo drastic, invasive cosmetic surgery. Really.

Famous Starlet (FS) would no doubt say, “It’s just makeup; I didn’t have a noselift.”

Hello?! Old shows and photographs will reveal that FS looked completely different in her youth.

She once appeared in a project directed by Esteemed Artist (EA). Straight-shooting Assistant (SA) had to remind EA that he had worked with FS in the past.

“I didn’t recognize FS,” EA whispered.

“That’s because her nose was much bigger then,” SA quipped.

Nosey guys

Hot Cutie (HC) underwent a major makeover, too. His nose is less crooked than before.

HC used to look like a two-bit gigolo (he was discovered in a reality show). But after hooking up with wealthy benefactors, he was able to afford trips to the dermatologist and plastic surgeon, who transformed him into a more expensive-looking… uh, two-bit gigolo.

Popular Hunk underwent similar procedures and insists that having his teeth fixed resulted in a slimmer, more aquiline nose.

Okay.

Body language

Looks like trouble in paradise.

Handsome Celeb (HC) and Popular Girlfriend (PG) were having an interview recently. As usual, HC and PG tried to look gooey-sweet for the camera.

When HC leaned over to kiss his sweetheart, PG pulled away. She was smiling radiantly, but her body language betrayed her.

Is this relationship just a sham?

Could it be because HC is smitten with similarly Glib Personality, while PG is involved with Influential Insider?

Scrimping siblings

From the Inquirer tabloid Bandera:

Coworkers often gossip about Perky Star (PS), who can be a notorious penny-pincher, bordering on the irrational.

Turns out, PS’ Bubbly Sibling (BS) is just as thrifty. The two would borrow clothes and accessories from each other.

On the set of a program, a staffer was shocked to catch BS wearing the same dress that PS had just worn in another show.

Did BS have the garment dry-cleaned before wearing it, or after? Or is she too frugal for that?

Top of the Talk Shows

Regina Velasquez enjoys a good relationship with hubby’s ex.

For those who missed last weekend’s TV gabfests (and why we are moved, if we are moved):

Mommy Caring Seguerra on why she has no problem with daughter Aiza tying the knot with Liza Diño: “Dapat everybody happy! Tama naman na ang pag-ibig ay walang pinipiling gender… Wala naman silang inaapakang tao… sige lang.” (Go, Mommy!)

(Amazing, amazing parents!)

Rachelle Ann Go on her love life: “Zero… Malamig ang Pasko!” (Sabi mo nga, may kumot naman.)

Mark Bautista, also on his love life: “I’m single and so ready to mingle, especially dito sa London. I’m looking forward to having some time for myself. Right now, Sunday is my only day off.” (Dapat lang. Enjoy!)

Regine Velasquez on having a good relationship with her husband Ogie Alcasid’s ex-wife Michelle van Eimeren: “Michelle now loves me more than she loves Ogie! She spoils me and my son Nate.” (Hurrah for the new normal!)

Regine, asked if she and Ogie are planning on a new baby: “I really can’t ask for anything more. Pero kung ibibigay, why not?” (Indeed.)

Dingdong Dantes, asked if he and Marian Rivera will have a prenup agreement: “Hindi pa namin napaguusapan ’yan… It’s a delicate matter. Bilang Pilipino, we’re shy to talk about money, pero kailangan maging klaro lahat ng bagay.” (Sa dami ng despedidas de soltera, nalimutan.)

Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera haven’t talked about a prenup yet.

Dingdong, asked if the wedding preparations are taking a toll on his health: “Siyempre napapagod din tayo. Nagkaroon ng konting fever lang; kinailangan lang ng konting pahinga.” (Di po kami kasali.)

James Reid on rumors that he’s dating Kim Chiu’s sister, Twinkle: “We’re friends. I’m not dating anyone at all.” (Fine.)

Iñigo Pascual, asked if he’s in favor of his dad Piolo dating much younger women: “I’m 17, and if he gets a girlfriend who’s 20, I’m not going to be comfortable with that. I don’t want a stepmom who’s 20!” (We’re staying away from this one, for the boy’s sake.)

Richard Yap, asked how he makes up for lost time with his kids: “Pag wala akong trabaho, I spend the whole day with them or we go out of town or out of the country… I try to be the best dad I can be.” (Know that these efforts never go to waste.)

Toni Gonzaga, asked what she has that sister Alex doesn’t: “Pera. Ha-ha-ha!” (Ha-ha-half joke lang ba ito?)

Matteo Guidicelli, asked to rate himself as an actor: “I’m learning. I’ve been taking workshops and reading books.” (You were asked to rate, not read.)

JC Intal on his favorite part of his and Bianca Gonzalez’s wedding: “The first time I saw her in the wedding gown. Pinipigilan ko talagang umiyak n’un. Sobrang ganda niya.” (Aww.)

JC on married life: “I’m looking forward to our future… sa pagpapalaki ng mga anak namin. Naks, ‘mga’!” (Naks!)

MANILA - Ai Ai delas Alas has quit social media.

Speaking with ABS-CBN News' Mario Dumaual on Thursday, the 50-year-old comedienne explained her decision to deactivate her account on image-sharing service Instagram, among others.

"Na-realize ko na, modesty aside, in my 25 years in show business, parang 'yung mga nababasa ko, hindi na angkop sa pangyayari sa buhay ko," she said. "'Yung iba kasi, parang sobra naman. Hindi ko na kaya tanggapin 'yung iba. Okay nalang din na wala."

In recent months, delas Alas made headlines over her relationship with 21-year-old Gerald Sibayan. Just last month, the "Tanging Ina" star even took to Instagram, where she had over 294,000 followers, to openly express her love for Sibayan on the occasion of his birthday.

"Imbes na masaktan ako," delas Alas explained, "okay na rin na wala nalang akong social media. Okay na 'yun. Nakiki social media nalang ako sa anak ko. Tutal, feeling ko naman parang mas pangkabataan talaga ang social media."

Delas Alas acknowledged that social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram can be beneficial to celebrities like her, as they can be used to engage with fans.

"Sa tamang paraan, nakakatulong din naman ang social media sa mga artista," she said. "Pero siguro sa akin lang, it's my choice siguro and decision na huwag nalang."

With the New Year only weeks away, delas Alas said she is content with having an inspiration, in the person of Sibayan. She denied, however, that they are planning to tie the knot in 2015.

"Ay, wala! Walang pang gano'n," she said. "Masaya lang at happy lang na may inspirasyon at may kasama naman ako sa buhay."
