Gary V over-protective of daughter Kiana

MANILA, SEPTEMBER 8, 2014 (ABS-CBN) Among his three children, Gary Valenciano admitted he is strictest when it comes to his only daughter, Kiana.

In the Father's Day episode of "Tapatan Ni Tunying" (TNT) that aired on Thursday, Valenciano said he is overprotective of his daughter because she is the youngest in the family.

“Kiana is not just the youngest but she’s very beautiful. Before, she had a suitor. Nung unang beses ko siyang nakitang pumasok sa kotse ng [lalaki], talagang nakatingin ako,” he said.

Valenciano said even their housemaids were asking him if he was okay.

While admitting that he wasn’t really fine then, Valenciano said he talked to his daughter’s suitor. He also said he trusts Kiana.

“Kinausap ko yung lalaki. Naintindihan niya ako. Effective naman and it’s good kasi makikita din ng lalaki na seryoso yung dad,” he said.

* Asked if he thinks Paolo, Gabriel and Kiana are having a hard time as his kids, Valenciano said, “Umabot sa punto na kinausap ko yung tatlo kong anak. Sabi ko unang una, you don’t have to sing like me. You don’t have to talk, to walk, to dress up, to look like me. Sabi ko sa kanila, I can fly beside you but you don’t have to fly under me. You fly doon sa mga lugar na hinding-hindi ko maabutan and I will be proud of you.”

Aside from giving a glimpse of how he is as a dad, Valenciano also recalled how he started in the entertainment industry.

“Inimbita ako noon na kumanta sa iba’t ibang variety shows. Nung lumabas ako sa Miriam College, doon ko nakilala ang misis ko na si Angeli Pangilinan. Kasama din siya sa isang banda. Pinanood niya ako tapos nilapitan niya ako, sabi niya kung pwede daw niya ma-introduce ako sa manager ng grupo nila. Nakilala ko si Sandra Chavez at doon na nag-umpisa ang lahat,” he said.

But his career wasn’t “scandal-free” as he immediately made headlines upon his showbiz entry.

“Pagpasok na pagpasok ko sa industriya, ang nag-greet sa akin ay isang masasabi nating skandalo kasi nabuntis si Angeli and I wasn’t married,” he said.

According to Valenciano, who was not even 20 years old then, he and Pangilinan were not yet married when the latter got pregnant.

“Hanggang sa tinanong ako mismo na ‘Gary, dadating na yung major concert mo sa Araneta Coliseum sa April 13. Kapag nag-presscon ka, siguradong itatanong ka kung totoo ba or hindi.’ Pag-upong pag-upo ko, yun ang unang tanong. ‘So is it true?’ Ganoon kaagad. So tumingin ako, ‘It’s true,’” he added.

Relieved that they got through it, Valenciano said his career then took off smoothly, starting with a sold-out concert at the Araneta Coliseum.

Washington SyCip: I want Grace Poe to seek presidency By Leila B. Salaverria |Philippine Daily Inquirer2:15 am | Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014

MANILA, Philippines–A man who knows how to count, one of the earliest supporters of Fernando Poe Jr. when he ran for President in 2004 but was believed to have lost in the counting, is interested in seeing his daughter Sen. Grace Poe run for the same office.

Washington SyCip, founder of accounting firm SGV & Co., on Tuesday asked Poe at the Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility in a hotel in Makati City about her running for President.

Poe, however, told SyCip that she still had no intention of seeking higher office. But she was nevertheless grateful to have his trust.

“Of course, especially coming from Washington SyCip, it’s an honor to have his trust and for him to consider me as somebody who can probably give more by serving in higher office,” Poe said when asked in the Senate about SyCip’s statement.

She said she “really admires” SyCip, 93.

“He’s a captain of the industry. More importantly, he inspires many also because of his contributions and positivism,” she added.

The senator also said SyCip had connections to her grandfather.

Her grandfather, Fernando Poe Sr., was one of SGV’s first clients, she said. And SyCip had been quick to support her father’s bid for the presidency in 2004.

Still, she was not convinced about running for President.

“I told him I have no plans. Right now, I’m barely over a year in office and I have yet a lot to prove. But again, it’s an honor especially coming from him,” she said.

* Poe said she did not want to make a big deal about the matter, when asked by the Inquirer about SyCip’s question to her.

Though she has not declared any plan to run for President in 2016, Poe has been ranking second in surveys on voters’ preference for the country’s next Chief Executive.

She ranks behind Vice President Jejomar Binay, who has early on announced his plan to run for higher office.

Poe was the top-ranked candidate during the 2013 senatorial election. It was the first time she ran for public office.

Poe has been known for championing the freedom of information bill, which was already passed in the Senate but is still floundering in the House of Representatives.

She has also spoken out against electoral fraud, recalling the fate of her father who ran and lost to Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2004.

The 2004 presidential election, however, was allegedly marred by cheating as shown by the “Hello Garci” scandal in which Arroyo was recorded asking an

(At the MTRCB, that thing is not encouraged and I even can’t help but have a laugh.)

MTRCB is Movie and Television Review and Classification Board, which the senator used to head before she ran for the Senate.

* Turning serious, Poe said a “Poe-Kiko” tandem was far-fetched considering that they had never been together before.
“Mahirap siguro yun, unang-una wala (naman syang plano) …ganun din naman ako. Siguro hanggang ganun na lang…” she said.

(Perhaps that is impossible, because first he has no plan to run for public office…and I don’t have any plan either. So let’s leave it that way.)

Poe maintained that she has no plans in 2016, saying she has a lot more to prove since she has been in the Senate for only a year.

“Kuntento ako na mayroon akong pagkakataon na makapagsilbi, makapagbigay ng kaunting pagbabago…So matagal pa, marami pang pagkakataon para mapatunayan ang aking sarili,” the senator added.

(I am contented to have the privilege to serve, contribute for change…So it will take time before I could prove my mettle.)

Heart Evangelista reacts to Balesin wedding rumors ABS-CBNnews.com
Posted at 09/02/2014 11:10 AM | Updated as of 09/02/2014 8:40 PM

MANILA – Heart Evangelista finally broke her silence amid rumors that she and Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero caused a wedding in Balesin Island Club in Quezon to be bumped off because they want to tie the knot at the same venue on the same date.

This comes after makeup artist Ria Gamboa, whose post was published by the entertainment site Pep, said she has a friend who "tediously planned" a Balesin wedding only to be bumped off "because a celebrity-politician couple wanted their on the same day."

Although Gamboa did not drop any names, some people who commented on the said post asked whether she was referring to Evangelista and Escudero, who recently got engaged.

In an interview with Pep, Evangelista immediately clarified the matter, denying any involvement in the fiasco.

"Actually, I think it's really unfair that there are people on Facebook… and the way they say it na parang they know all the details. There's no truth to it. I think that's the best way that I could answer that," she said.

Evangelista even dared her detractors to check with Balesin Island Club if she and Escudero indeed made some arrangements with them.

"In fact, if they really wanna look into it, go ahead and check Balesin. We're not like that. This is the best day of our lives. I'm a bride-to-be, she's a bride-to-be. Who would do that to any bride-to-be? There’s no truth to it and I hope ma-iron out nila," she said.

* Escudero proposed to Evangelista last August 23.

Asked if the thought that she will soon be Mrs. Escudero excites her, Evangelista said: "Ngayon pa lang siya nagsi-sink in."

"Ngayon pa lang ako tumitingin ng pictures, ng dates, ng gowns, kung saan, wala pa akong idea. Nandoon pa lang kami sa planning stage kung saan talaga, kung kailan ba talaga, kung sino ang pupunta. But one thing is for sure, we want it very intimate, very private," she said.

"Then, we want one big party here sa Manila sa reception na lahat talaga ay invited. Pero the wedding, we want it very intimate, just the two of us, very far away. So we could get away with reality and pause time, and we could really just lock that moment na na-enjoy naming dalawa 'yon," the actress added.

Despite this, Evangelista vowed to share this special occasion in her life with her followers.

"For sure, I will share it with my fans. I mean, I'm a public figure and that’s part of our lives, to inspire them, to make them kilig, why not? But for me to have a special [coverage] or whatever, that’s something I really have to think about. As of now, it's a no," she said.

Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero and actress Heart Evangelista pose in Balesin for the December 2013 issue of HOLA! Philippines. Couple says nothing to do with postponed event

MANILA -- Contrary to a claim in a viral Facebook post, no wedding was "bumped off" at Balesin Island Club to supposedly accommodate the nuptials of Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero and actress Heart Evangelista, the resort said in a statement on Tuesday.

In the statement published on Balesin's official website, Alphaland chairman Roberto Ongpin said his attention was called by his daughter on the Facebook post alleging that a planned wedding on February 14, 2015 was postponed because "a celebrity-politician couple wanted theirs on the same day."

While the post, reportedly from makeup artist Ria Gamboa, did not mention any names, some speculated it referred to Evangelista and Escudero, who got engaged just last month.

"At first, I was amused by the report, but it seems to be getting some traction and I wanted to set the record straight for everyone," Ongpin said.

The billionaire businessman explained: "I wish everyone to know that it was I who actually invited Heart and Chiz to have their wedding at Balesin when I had dinner with them shortly after they returned from their trip to Paris sometime in July and even before they announced their formal engagement."

"I was therefore very pleased when Chiz and Heart called me a few weeks ago to tell me that they had finally decided on Balesin as their wedding venue. As many of you know, both Chiz and Heart have been friends of mine for some time now. Balesin is one of their favorite places and they go there quite often with their families and friends," he said.

* Late last year, the couple also had a photo shoot together at the resort for the December 2013 issue of lifestyle magazine HOLA! Philippines, which detailed their love story.

VIDEO URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N4O1CNFKmY

According to Ongpin, he checked with the reservations department of Balesin whether the venue would be available on February 14, after receiving confirmation from Escudero and Evangelista. At the time, Ongpin added, nobody had confirmed on that date.

"So, nobody has been 'bumped off,'" he said.

Noting that Escudero and Evangelista are thinking of holding their wedding either at Balesin's Royal Villa or the Toscana Village, Ongpin said the resort can accommodate more than one wedding at a time, "as long as the parties do not consist of a thousand people."

Ongpin, who is currently in Europe, said he felt compelled to address the matter because "innocent people are being unfairly criticized, and in order to settle the issue once and for all."

Meanwhile, in separate interviews, both Escudero and Evangelista said they have nothing to do with the supposed "bumping off" of a planned wedding in Balesin.

"We're not like that," the actress said. "This is the best day of our lives. I'm a bride-to-be, she's a bride-to-be. Who would do that to any bride-to-be? There's no truth to it and I hope ma-iron out nila."

On social media, Evangelista also clarified to her followers that no final date has been set for her and Escudero's wedding.

Escudero echoed this in an interview with Senate reporters, adding that the supposed issue concerning the other wedding is for Balesin to resolve.

"Sa parte namin, ni wala pa kaming pinal na petsa o lugar," he said. "Paano naman kami magiging dahilan at madadamay sa issue na 'yan?"

Why Heart and Jericho really broke up ABS-CBNnews.com Posted at 04/23/2013 5:23 PM | Updated as of 04/24/2013 12:08 AM

Actress Heart Evangelista and actor Jericho Rosales

MANILA – For the first time, Heart Evangelista revealed the real reason why she and Jericho Rosales, whom she considers her “greatest love,” broke up in 2008.

In an sit-down interview with Yes magazine for its May 2013 issue, Evangelista said her parents made her believe that Rosales cheated on her with Malaysian actress Carmen Soo.

At that time, Evangelista just reconciled with her parents after not talking to them for three years because she fought for her relationship with Rosales.

Evangelista said her parents did not approve of the Kapamilya actor because he already had a child from a previous relationship.

“I didn’t see them for three years at that time and I missed them so much. And I was also going though a lot, I was struggling with life. I was confused. Although I was happy, it was hard to be happy in one area and everything else seems like it’s falling apart. But the moment I got back with them, naging okay kami,” she said.

Rosales was then in Malaysia with Soo for the ABS-CBN series “Kahit Isang Saglit,” while Evangelista was in Dubai for her own show in GMA-7.

“When they said that he was cheating on me with Carmen Soo, I really did think that he was. I really thought that he cheated on me. I really did. And that was because they told me that he was and I was convinced,” she said.

Evangelista shared there was even a time when Rosales went to see her in her condominium unit so he could explain himself but they never saw each other.

“My mom didn’t tell me that he was waiting for me downstairs in my condo for five hours. She didn’t say anything so I didn’t hear from him,” she said.

* The 27-year-old actress said she just learned in due course that Rosales did not really cheat on her.

“Of course they are your parents—when they tell you something over and over, you start to have fears. You start to doubt certain situations. And that’s what happened to me before,” she said.

Through time, Evangelista understood that her mom was just scared to lose her.

“She was trying to let me go. She was really trying her best to not get herself involved with my past relationships. It was always like that. She would try. But in the end, everything that she kept inside would just blow up, and it would just affect me so much and also the relationship that I was in,” she said.

Evangelista recently made headlines anew after she found herself in another collision course with her parents who lambasted her current boyfriend, Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero.

Both Evangelista and Escudero, however, have stood firm that they are not breaking up amid all the issues surrounding their relationship.

Diether Ocampo's ex-GF breaks her silence abs-cbnNEWS.com
Posted at 08/09/2010 12:09 PM | Updated as of 08/10/2010 1:17 PM

Rima Ostwani,

MANILA, Philippines – The former girlfriend of Diether Ocampo sat down with “The Buzz” host Boy Abunda to discuss for the first time on television her relationship with the actor as well as their much publicized break-up.

Rima Ostwani, a half Syrian print ad model, and Ocampo were an item for 2 years. They met in an event and Ocampo, according to Ostwani, had described their first meeting as “love at feet sight.”

“He was texting so he was looking down. I passed by and he saw my feet. That was the first thing he noticed,” she laughingly recalled.

She said at first she didn’t want to get involved with an actor, thinking that all actors were womanizers. She eventually warmed up to him especially after learning that he helps poor children through his foundation, she said.

“When I met him one of the things he told me was, 'I have a foundation. I love children.' And he gave me a business card for his Kids Foundation. And suddenly I felt so guilty to have judged him,” she said.

When he began courting her, she shared that the actor would pick her up from work every single day. She eventually said “yes” to him because “they really connected.”

Balancing work, love

Ostwani said the 2 of them had great times together and that he was “a great inspiration.” Marriage, she said, was also part of their plans though not in the near future.

* That was why when Ocampo had admitted that he was having a hard time balancing his work and their relationship, she felt depressed, she said.

“Nalungkot talaga ako kasi dati naman naba-balance naman niya. Tina-try ko talagang i-understand… mahirap talaga, masakit talaga [pero] is that enough reason to throw away what we had?” she said.

She shot down rumors that a third party was involved. She, however, did not deny that their relationship was not Ocampo’s top priority.

“There were a couple of very painful incidents that he put me through which I felt were unnecessary. That’s when I realized, ‘Wow, parang kung kaya niyang gawin yan, talagang he doesn’t give our relationship importance.’ I felt very much taken for granted,” she said.

She said she coped through prayers. She also drew strength from her loved ones.

“I was praying for enlightenment and He gave me signs. And those signs gave me the strength to move forward…. You try to stay positive. You try to pull yourself up because you don’t want to stay down there. I know I lost an important part of me but I still have my life,” she said.

She added that Ocampo “will always have a mark in my life.”
