DEREK RAMSEY CONFIRMS HE IS MARRIED AND HAS A SON

Actor Derek Ramsay has admitted that he is married and has a son. In a report by entertainment website PEP.ph, Ramsay in a statement confirmed that he got married to Marie Cristine Jolly in 2002 and that they have an 11-year-old son. “In the Complaint-Affidavit which is replete with deliberate lies and facts intended to be misleading and deceptive, there are only two things that are true: First, that Mary Christine Jolly and I were married in 2002, a marriage that I was then told, was not valid, for various reasons,” he said in a statement. “Atty. Joji Alonso (his legal counsel) has subsequently explained to me that the information given me about the status of my marriage, is erroneous and that a marriage unless annulled, remains to be valid,” Ramsay added. He also bared that he has an 11-year old son named Austin Gabriel Ramsay. He, however, said it was in the early part of August 2011 that he was able to confirm that Austin is indeed his son. “Since then, I wanted to know my son first and keep my relationship with him private,” the actor said. “Austin was just an 8-year-old boy then and he would not be able to comprehend the possible media curiosity about him, especially since he was then new to the country and about to pursue his education here,” he added. Ramsay broke his silence and issued the statement in response to the cases filed against him for alleged violation of Republic Act 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004) filed against him by Jolly. On June 27, his estranged wife filed before the Makati prosecutor’s office charges against Ramsay, claiming that she and her son suffered from repeated emotional, psychological and economic abuse during her 12 years of marriage with the actor.THIS IS THE FULL REPORT

MARY Christine Jolly Ramsay

Mary Christine Jolly Ramsay, estranged wife of actor Derek Ramsay, faced reporters on Friday to explain the complaint she filed in June against him in the Makati City prosecutor’s office for alleged violation of the law on violence against women and children.

The former commercial model said she did it to pressure the actor to fulfill his obligations to support their 11-year-old son.

Ramsay filed a counteraffidavit last week denying her allegations, saying the only thing true in her complaint was the fact they were married in 2002 and that they have a son.

Reacting to Mary’s statements Friday, Ramsay said he didn’t want to speak ill of his child’s mother. “The court will play this out. That’s why I’m not holding any press con.”

“There’s something deep inside me that wants to [talk] and just blurt things out so that everyone knows the truth. But I care about my son. And I don’t want my son to hear his father talk bad about his mother,” the actor told the Inquirer.

“Whatever she throws at me, I’m going to have to respond to it. And we’ll do that in court.”

* Ramsay’s lawyer Joji Antonio added: “The question remains unanswered. What in the world will an 11-year-old kid do with P45 million, which the complainant wants in lump sum?”

“We shall respond to the complainant’s latest claims in Derek’s rejoinder-affidavit,” Antonio added.

Mary, 36, held a press conference at New World Hotel in Makati claiming that her complaint stemmed from the “psychological violence” committed by Ramsay against her and their son when he refused to support their child despite her diligent efforts to contact and reach out to him.

“This fight is not about me. It is about my child abandoned by a negligent father for so many years,” she said, adding that Ramsay had seen their son only “four times” and that he did so “because I threatened to sue him.”

Mary said she earlier chose to be silent as a “sign of respect” to Ramsay and to avoid destroying his show biz career. “But there comes a point when enough is enough and I think I have come to that point. My son is growing up and he is asking too many questions.”

The boy is currently studying in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, her home country, she said. With a report from Bayani San Diego Jr.

Besides, he’s still grappling with legalities pertaining to his 2002 wedding to a nonshow biz girl. “That’s being sorted out,” he said.

No problem

Asked how his new lover reacted to earlier reports linking him to Kris Aquino, the TV5 star said: “There’s no problem.”

Derek reiterated that he and Kris are merely “very good friends.” Rumors romantically linking the two spread after Kris posted on Instagram cryptic thank-you posts for Derek. He stressed, “There was no relationship. I didn’t court her. We gave each other advice.”

Kris’ new boyfriend, Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista, need not be jealous of him, Derek said. “[Rumors like that are] part of what we deal with in show biz.”

Derek was certain that Kris didn’t use his name for more publicity, as netizens continue to suggest. “She’s Kris Aquino; she has everything. What would she use me for?” he said. “As for my career, I’ve worked hard to get where I am.”

That said, Derek said he might do a movie with Kris under Regal. “But I’m not very sure.”

The two were also offered the lead roles in the indie movie “Maratabat,” which was written—and will be directed by—Inquirer Radio’s Arlyn de la Cruz. Kris turned down the project because of schedule conflicts.

The new “Regal Baby” is excited about doing a film with Marian Rivera. “She’s one of GMA 7’s biggest stars, and it’s nice to get the chance to work with people outside my network,” Derek said.

Meanwhile, asked if he would accept gay roles and/or projects similar to “My Husband’s Lover,” Derek said he loved a good challenge. “But I have to prepare really well for that one.”

What about kissing scenes with another man? “Only if [necessary],” Derek said. “I believe my competitiveness and drive to do new things will pull me through.”

Aquino best man when Escudero weds Heart Evangelista
By Nancy C. Carvajal |Philippine Daily Inquirer3:35 am | Saturday, August 30th, 2014

ENGAGED: “Our getting married has nothing to do with my running or not running [for an elective post],” said Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero, here with fiancée Heart Evangelista. Escudero says you don’t have to be married to win. “Look at President Aquino.” ARNOLD ALMACEN

President Benigno Aquino III will stand as best man for Sen. Chiz Escudero when the senator weds movie star Heart Evangelista on Feb. 14 (tentative date).

“The President has agreed to be best man at my wedding, not a [principal] sponsor,” Escudero said in an interview at the actress’ house in a Quezon City subdivision.

“Ayaw na magninong sa kasal, kasi may pamahiin na hindi makakasal kapag nagninong ang binata (he does not like to be a principal sponsor because of the superstition that a bachelor who stands as principal sponsor will never marry),” Escudero added in jest.

The senator said that he asked Mr. Aquino to be his best man at least two months ago, even before he proposed marriage to Evangelista last weekend.

Escudero, 44, proposed to Evangelista, 29, last Saturday at a family dinner at the Escuderos’ hometown of Buhatan, Sorsogon province.

Escudero described the President, who is also godfather to his two children from a previous marriage, as the “most honest President the country has ever had.”

“President Aquino perhaps is the most honest President we ever had, more than anyone else, maybe even more than his mother simply because of the availability of the technology. P-Noy has stood up to the scrutiny in modern times where technology has been available and everyone has a camera in hand,” he said.

A new start

Asked why he chose Mr. Aquino for his best man, rather than a relative or another friend, the senator said the President was “one of my closest friends for over 15 years.”

He also wanted a new start with his marriage to Evangelista.

“I wanted to change everything I did from my previous wedding, that’s why I am not getting anyone from my wedding sponsors in my first marriage,” he said.

Dated for 2 years

Escudero, who was granted a church annulment only last July, denied that his engagement to Evangelista was a signal that he was running for president.

He said that they had been talking about marriage since after his civil annulment was granted last year so that when the church annulment was granted, the next step was to get married.

“I’m making a decision one thing at a time; our getting married has nothing to do with my running or not running. We will get married at some point and besides President Aquino has proven that being married has nothing to do with winning, hindi kailangan magpakasal,” Escudero explained.

The proposal came after two years of dating and “going steady.”

Although they had been talking about marriage, Evangelista said she was still taken by surprise by the proposal.

“I still cried when he asked me and put on my finger the ring from his mother, the family heirloom,” she said.

According to Escudero, Senators Miriam Defensor-Santiago and Grace Poe may be part of the entourage of the wedding, whose venue has yet to be decided by Evangelista.

Santiago, who introduced the couple, is “close” to Evangelista, while Poe and Escudero have been “close” since the latter acted as the spokesperson of the late Fernando Poe Jr., Poe’s father, when he ran for president in 2004.

Escudero admitted to sometimes talking with Poe about the surveys touting them as a possible team-up in the 2016 presidential election.

He explained that as of now, running for higher office, for himself and Poe, would have basic problems.

“We don’t have the funds and so many things have to fall into place. Others have moved heaven and earth, others may have already moved the earth, I’m not sure about the heaven part, but for me and Grace Poe we do not still have heaven and earth,” he said.

“If running is an option in 2016 at all, we do not have any party or money [but] we will cross the bridge when we get there,” Escudero said.

Not talked about

According to Evangelista, her fiancé’s running for president in 2016 does not figure prominently in their conversations.

“We don’t talk about these things, and I don’t want to talk about it because it would sound mayabang (boastful), and besides we work in different worlds,” she said.

She also revealed that before she exclusively dated Escudero, Santiago had encouraged her to meet other men outside of show business, including the senator.

“She set me up with other men to see the world and widen my horizons and was also surprised that I ended up with Chiz,” Evangelista said.

Fireworks, tears at Heart Evangelista-Chiz Escudero engagement By Marinel R. Cruz | Philippine Daily InquirerAugust 28, 2014 | 12:02 am

SURROUNDED by show biz friends Alessandra de Rossi, Lovi Poe and Rocco Nacino, Sen. Chiz Escudero asks Heart Evangelista to be his wife.

Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero popped the question on Saturday night during an intimate dinner planned a month ahead. His girlfriend, actress Heart Evangelista, said yes.

A long fireworks show signaled Heart’s acceptance of that proposal, and of the sparkly heart-shaped diamond ring, an Escudero family heirloom, that she has since worn.

The proposal, witnessed by the senator’s family and the couple’s close friends, took place at the Escudero estate in Buhatan, Sorsogon, where they had gone to for the long weekend.

“On Friday, some of Heart’s friends started arriving in Sorsogon without her knowledge,” said a source close to the couple. Alessandra de Rossi, Lovi Poe and Rocco Nacino arrived on Saturday.

* Heart, 29, thought it was just the usual garden dinner, the source recalled. When music started to play at 8 p.m., a friend led Heart to the dining area where the guests were waiting. Chiz walked in with his twins Quino and Chesi, mom Elvie and sister Dette.

“Heart was already in tears by that time,” said the source. “Chiz read to her a text message from her dad (Rey Ongpauco), congratulating her for the engagement. Chiz then instructed his son to take out the ring, knelt on one knee, and asked Heart to marry him.”

In April 2013, the senator told the Inquirer that he and ex-wife Christine Flores were having their church marriage annulled after three years of separation. The delay in the process was among the issues raised by Heart’s parents when they publicly expressed disapproval of the 44-year-old Chiz.

The marriage was annulled in civil court in 2012. An online report said the petition for church annulment was granted last month.
