Many of us are so caught up with our discomfort that we forget that others are in a far worse situation.

I visited Camarines Sur, Legazpi and Sorsogon over the weekend. The damage caused by Typhoon Glenda was immense. Trees, electrical posts and houses were razed to the ground. In Albay, there were no casualties despite the damage in infrastructure. I have witnessed Bicolandia’s resilience and preparedness. Nonetheless, they still need our help. Those who help themselves should not be ignored.

I hope that donors and big NGOs will look at Bicol with kind hearts. They need construction materials for them to rebuild.

Paolo Bediones’ love life takes a back seat for now By Allan Policarpio | Philippine Daily InquirerApril 10, 2012 | 6:15 pm

Busy with his TV schedule, sleep-deprived TV host ‘commits’ to marriage at 40

“I’M SERIOUS about my career.” Juggling four TV shows and a radio program on TV5, Paolo Bediones barely has time to sleep, much less find a girlfriend.

And although he can still squeeze football into his hectic schedule, the 38-year-old bachelor said that his love life has taken a back seat for now.

“Bugbog talaga ang katawan ko! It’s practically impossible to have a social life,” Paolo told reporters during the recent press launch of his coming reality show, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Philippines.” “My love life will have to remain on the back burner for now.”

Worse, Paolo has been diagnosed with sleep apnea, a condition that deprives one of a full night’s rest. “I don’t get straight sleep. There are times when I go to work feeling that my mind isn’t as sharp,” he said.

Paolo’s “Extreme” cohost, socialite and Inquirer Lifestyle columnist Tessa Prieto-Valdes, has expressed concern over his nonexistent love life.

She insists on playing cupid, but her attempts at trying to set Paolo up on dates with her “chickababes” unfortunately have been in vain.

“He doesn’t show up! Man, his schedule sucks!” Tessa exclaimed. Paolo replied: “Work ends at midnight.”

When it comes to women, Paolo said that “age or height” doesn’t really matter. But she has to be considerate, he said.

“She has to accept and understand that my schedule is a reality!” Paolo knows that he’s not getting any younger and would have to focus soon on that aspect of his life he has so far neglected. He has set an ultimatum on himself: “I have promised myself that at 40, by hook or by crook, I will be married.” What about future showbiz plans? Paolo said with finality that it’s “time to move on.”

He has had his fair share of acting in front of the cameras. Paolo was in the cast of GMA 7’s “Captain Barbell” and the film “Walang Kapalit,” along with Sharon Cuneta, Richard Gomez and former “Extra Challenge” cohost Miriam Quiambao. Aside from “Extreme,” Paolo is also in “USI: Under Special Investigation,” “Good Morning Club,” “Pilipinas News” and Radyo5’s “Sakto kay Paolo, Sakto rin kay Cherie.” “I’m serious about my career as a broadcaster. It’s something that I want to focus on,” he said. (“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Philippines” premieres on April 15 after “Talentadong Pinoy.”)

Father and sons: Music runs in their blood by Marjorie S. Duran July 26, 2014 (updated)

Generation

Respected singer-songwriter Jose Mari Chan was a picture of a proud father while sharing how he predicted some years back that his sons Joe and Mike Chan will someday be a music disciple which has come to pass.

The brothers are part of new rock band Generation with co-members who are also sons of legendary Filipino recording artists.

Jose Mari related that Mike first tickled the keys of the family piano at age eight. Joe, on the other hand, expressed his desire to learn musical instruments at 15.

The veteran singer believes Mike and Joe’s exposure to a variety of songs influenced their passion for music.

“I think somehow it’s a process of osmosis (an ability to learn and understand things gradually without much effort) because in our house, music was flowing almost every day,” Jose Mari said in an interview with Bulletin Entertainment.

After giving his sons musical roots, Jose Mari now lends them wings.

“I support my sons and it means not to stifle them.”

As way of showing support, the balladeer said he watches some of his sons’ gigs and offers them advice in music.

* What are these?

“Be true to yourself. Write from the heart. Be proud of what we produce,” Mike said.

In fact, Mike and Joe’s brand of music, which they describe as “new classic rock,” is far different from that of Jose Mari’s.

Yet, if there’s something the father and sons have in common, it’s their fondness for The Beatles.

Jose Mari explained, “Of all the musicians that have come, the Beatles stand out to be a major influence in the world of music because their songs are classic, melodious and they will stand the test time.”

New Generation

As Jose Mari put it, his sons’ band “caters to today’s generation.”

Generation has four members – Kowboy Santos (son of rock icon Sampaguita) in lead guitar, Ige Gallardo (son of singer Celeste Legaspi) plays rhythm guitar, Joe booms the bass and Mike commands the keyboards.

The band was formed in 2008 and they began recording their album two years later.

Their recently-released eponymous album under Star Records contains all-original songs including “Make It Right,” “Idol,” “Shine Your Light On Me” and promotional song “Love Is Killing Me.”

And finally, the week is capped with a special segment that checks back on former featured complainants, showing how the program has had a positive impact on them.

Noontime television will definitely be more action-packed and service-oriented.

CAMILLE Prats is glad her non-showbiz boyfriend, John Yambao, appears to have adjusted to her busy schedule. “Minabuti kasi ni Camille na bago pa magpropose ng marriage sa kanya si John, alam na nito kung anong klaseng mga trabaho mayroon siya,” someone close to Camille said.

Aside from hosting “Mars” with Suzy Andrada on GMA News TV, she is also president and directress of the pre-school her family has put up.

Called Divine Angels Monstessori, the school has attracted many enrollees. “Magagaling kasing magturo ang mga teachers,” said a parent of one of the school’s graduates. “Yung anak ko, easily passed the entrance examination when I enrolled him in grade one.

“No wonder, ‘di lang mga anak ng taga loob ng subdivision ang mga nag-a-aral sa school ng mga Prats, kung hindi pati ‘yung mga anak ng taga ibang subdivision.”

But first and foremost, of course, Camille is mother of six year-old Nathan.

It was more than a year of being a widow when John came into Camille and Nathan’s lives. Immediately, John and Nathan developed a close relationship. To Camille’s surprise and joy.

Before John’s departure for the US for his green card, he was already treating Nathan like his son.

“Kahit family ko approves of him,” Camille beamed. “Kung sabagay, magkakakilala kami noon pa man – John’s family and mine.

John and I were classmates in our younger years. Nagkahiwa-hiwalay lang kami when we transferred to another place. Lately lang kami nagkitang muli.

“We are probably really meant for each other,” Camille disclosed.

Arnold hopes that, in time, Allison will be able to speak Tagalog. “’Di man like a native, at least, matatas.

“I hired her a Tagalog tutor.”

Allison is Bioessence’s first foreign endorser. It is because, it’s owners said, they eventually would want to go international.

Dina Bonnevie and Nikki Gil have also endorsed Bioessence.

Thus, in essence, the clinic has become a one-stop shop for beauty and wellness needs, said Allison.

And isn’t Allison glad she is now part of the company?
