Park discussed the rigorous training she underwent to become a K-pop star, and later as one of the four members of 2NE1. Those two years of hard work without pay, Park said, have thankfully paid off.

Now, she is known worldwide as a K-pop superstar, and gets to travel for shows overseas.

But Park said she has not forgotten her roots in the Philippines, where she first became a TV darling. In fact, Dara, as she is known in Korea, remains in constant communication with her Filipino friends and even regularly watches movies produced here.

As Park's interview aired on Wednesday night, several terms related to the performer became local and worldwide trends on Twitter, including "#WelcomeHomeDara." In the Philippines, the hashtag zoomed up as the No. 1 trend on the micro-blogging site.

Other trending terms related to the live interview were "Aquino & Abunda Tonight," "#DaraOnAATonight," and "A&A Tonight."

Before 2NE1's concert on Saturday, Park will also make a guest appearance on ABS-CBN's "Pinoy Big Brother: All In" on Thursday, during its afternoon and primetime telecast.

Heart a big hit among art collectors By Isah V. Red | May. 12, 2014 at 06:00pm

VERY rarely that an artist’s first-day of his or her work becomes a sensation. But in Heart Evangelista’s case, a couple of hours after I Am Love Marie: The Art and Works of Love Marie Ongpauco, opened at ArtistSpace in Ayala Museum on May 8, all 19 paintings on display had been taken.

Even Heart herself was surprised.

“I am so grateful for all those who have bought pieces from my exhibit,” the freshman artist told members of the press who came to cover the actress’ foray into the world of fine arts.

Heart Evangelista as an artist is known as Love Marie Ongpauco, her real name. And in her formal debut as a painter she plunged herself in the very discriminating world of fine arts—artists, collectors, and critics.

When people now call her attention and address her as “Heart Evangelista,” she only smiles and demurely says, “I get that a lot,” underscoring her desire to separate the artist Love Marie from the celebrity.

At the opening, she was joined by her boyfriend Senator Chiz Escudero, who I learned was the moving force in making Heart decide to put up the exhibit.

Cutting the ribbon to signify the formal opening of the exhibit was Ayala’s top gun Fernando Zobel de Ayala along with Heart and Chiz.

At the opening of exhibit at ArtistSpace in Ayala Museum, Heart Evangelista (from left) with Senator Cynthia Villar, Susan Roces, former Senator Manny Villar, Chiz Escudero, and author

So, who were there to view the paintings and even buy them?

We saw Chiz’s colleagues like Sen. Cynthia Villar with husband, the former Senator Manny Villar. Cynthia I was told was one who acquired one of Heart’s hefty priced paintings. Also there with his son was Sen. Sonny Angara who came in a very casual look. PAGCOR head Jorge Sarmiento was also among the bigwigs in the crowd and acquired a piece. Sen. Grace Poe also came with husband Teodoro Daniel Misael “Neil” V. Llamanzares. Earlier her mother, Susan Roces came and mingled with the rest inside the crowded ArtistSpace.

We also spotted Executive Secretary Paquito “Jojo” Ochoa, Jr.

Fellow Kapuso artist Mark Bautista was there, too, so were GMA executives Lilibeth Rasonable, Redgie Magno, Marivic Arayata and Gigi Santiago-Lara. GMA News TV director Noel Añonuevo mingled with the connoisseurs in the crowd.

Heart Evangelista, the popular young star of the big screen and television, simply wants Love Marie to earn her distinction as an artist in her chosen field of expression. As a movie star, Heart expectedly breaths life to various characters, whatever a screenplay or production would demand. As Love Marie, the painter, she freely ventures into self-expression, sharing her private feelings of pain or joy with the world.

Love Marie is the name that her parents (who were conspicuously absent) found appropriate for the daughter who was born on Valentines Day.

“But not too many people know this side of me,” she said with her all too familiar smile, her eyes sparkling with excitement. She has been painting all her life, she continued, and it sounded like a major revelation coming from Love Marie, excited with her first solo exhibit.

The collection, all 19 oil-on-canvas paintings, was in various sizes. “Sometimes I see patterns in my mind,” said Love Marie or Heart. “I dream about them at night. They drive me crazy. All these prints are from my head.”

When Love Marie was two or three years old, her parents made sure all the colors in her play kit were washable because no matter what they did they couldn’t stop the child from drawing on the walls or on the table. She soon took art lessons, but at age 12, when she enrolled in a painting workshop at a museum, she decided that learning all the techniques stunted her style. “I appreciated everything I learned,” she said.. “But then maybe I was a rebel. You tell me what to do and I’ll do the opposite.”

Before she knew it, Love Marie became busy in other activities. At age 16, she was unable to resist the call of show business and she took to the sidelines and left it to Heart Evangelista to enjoy her newfound world.

This time Love Marie’s turn to shine became a reality at ArtistSpace. Her paintings will still be until May 22. It will be a chance to know Love Marie Ongpauco and the experiences she wants to share from her heart—be it sadness and pain, happiness or joy, madness or confusion, whatever it is that keeps the heart private and personal and knows the world will understand.

I am Love Marie, the Art and Works of Love Marie Ongpauco will be on exhibit from May 8 to 22 at ArtistSpace, Ground Floor Ayala Museum Annex, Ayala Museum, Makati Avenue corner De La Rosa Street, Greenbelt Park, Makati City.
