(MANILA BULLETIN)
by Alex Brosas - TV hosts Kris Aquino and Boy Abunda were still reeling with glee, sharing to viewers their once-in-a-lifetime experience meeting US President Barack Obama at the state dinner hosted by Malacañang recently.

Describing President Obama’s presence as really mesmerizing, Boy related how he was amazed by the Philippine guest of honor’s “gift.”

“Alam n’yo po mga kaibigan noong nagsalita si President Obama, alam mo na he was talking to all of you pero, ‘pag nadaanan ka parang ikaw ang kinakausap. It’s a gift,” he said on “Aquino & Abunda Tonight” on Tuesday.

He went on to congratulate the organizer of the state dinner describing it as “hindi siya opulent, hindi siya dekadente, parang tama ang timpla, napaka-Pinoy.”

“The ceremony, ‘yung pageantry hindi sobra, hindi OA. ‘Yung mga tao, marami kang kaibigan, politicians,” he shared.

Kris shared that her most cherished memory was being seated beside President Obama’s press secretary, Jay Carney.

“Ang dami kong ano, parang insight na nakuha. Nagkuwento siya all of the places he went to. He was there daw, Boy, nagsimula siya siya ke ano muna, vice president Joe Biden for two years. After two years, 2010, tama ba ang bilang ko, 2010 onwards siya na. So, imagine mo, araw-araw siguro silang magkasama, gano’n.”

For Boy, the one thing that he will forever remember was the moment that “President Obama was paying tribute to the talent of the Filipino.”

He also cited Pinay chef Cristeta Comerford as the reason “kaya familiar siya (President Obama) sa lumpia, sa adobo.”

Kris shared a short anecdote involving businessman Ramon Ang and ABS-CBN president Charo Santos-Concio who were also at the state dinner.

“Si Ramon Ang tinanong ni Ma’m Charo kasi napapabalita na investor na siya sa GMA-7. Tapos sinabi ni Ma’m Charo, ‘Are we now competitiors?’ Ang galing ni Ramon Ang. Ang sinabi kay Ma’m Charo, ‘No, I will always be a supporter,’” she intimated.

Seemingly overwhelmed by the who’s who at the state dinner, Kris believes that “Doon ka lang malalagay sa isang kuwarto na lahat ng bilyonaryo ng Pilipinas nandoon.”

Citing one billionaire, she mentioned businessman Jaime Zobel de Ayala as telling her, “please go to El Nido. Just tell me so I don’t need to bump off people.”

Kris also shared her view about President Obama extolling the achievements of the Aquino family.

“Nu’ng nagpe-pay tribute si President Obama sa mga magulang namin ni Noy, sinasabi niya na ‘your father gave up his life for democracy. Your mother embodied democracy. You (President Noynoy Aquino) put down the dictatorship.’ Tapos sabi ko, ‘ay, ano kaya ang napi-feel ni Bongbong Marcos na naririnig lahat ‘yon, nandoon siya,” she related.

MANILA - "Wala pa akong naranasan na ganitong pakiramamdam."

These were the words of Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero when asked about his girlfriend Heart Evangelista, adding that he had set a higher standard for a partner following his failed marriage.

"Lahat naman siguro ng may pinagdaanan, siyempre mas mataas 'yung standard at 'yung antas at 'yung hinahanap mo. Nakamit naman at naabot ko naman 'yun ngayon," he said in an interview on "Tapatan Ni Tunying" aired Thursday.

Escudero confirmed his annulment with former wife Christine Elizabeth Flores in 2012. He later on secured custody over their two children.

"May inaayos lang ako ng kaunti pa na gusot," Escudero said of his plans to marry Evangelista. "Pero sana sa hindi malayong hinaharap maayos 'yun, para maging ganap 'yung aming ugnyan."

Asked about how his children are handling their situation, the senator said: "Tita Heart ang tawag nila. Magkasundo sila at saka bagama't nakikita nila nang regular 'yung mommy nila, iba pa rin 'yung presensya ng babae sa bahay."

Escudero denied plans to run for president in the 2016 elections, when asked about the possibility of his girlfriend becoming the country's First Lady.

"Ayaw kong sabayan 'yung mga nagdeklara na. Mas gusto ko siyempre na maayos 'yung personal kong buhay bago 'yung pampubliko kong buhay," he said.

On being a father

Escudero also opened up about how he is currently enjoying his role as a father, and how it gives him an incomparable "high" whenever he hears his kids say, "I love Daddy."

"Mahirap para sa amin magbitaw ng papuri, lalo na sa mga kamag-anak at malapit sa iyo, pero sinusubukan kong baguhin 'yun sa mga anak ko," he said, referring to how his late father, politician Salvador Escudero, raised him along with his two siblings.

"Nung pumanaw 'yung tatay ko, isang bagay na pinagsisihan ko 'yun. So sa mga anak ko, baliktad ang ginagawa ko; araw-araw sinasabi ko mahal ko sila," he explained.

Asked to describe himself as a father, Escudero said: "Maasikaso. Gusto ko kasi sana paglaki ng mga anak ko, ma-appreciate nila 'yung oras at panahon na nabibigay ko sa kanila."

Labor Day special: Jericho Rosales and Kim Jones wed in Christian ceremony in Boracay
PHOTOS by CHUCK GOMEZ

In an exclusive interview in August last year, The STAR asked Jericho “Echo” Rosales what was the best wedding gift he could give his girlfriend Kim Jones. “Myself,” said Echo as he cast Kim a loving glance.

Asked the same question, Kim smiled, “Yes, myself!”

Added Echo, “And a lifelong assurance that I’d be faithful to her and a vow that I will take care of her the rest of our life together.”

Yesterday afternoon, Echo and Kim formalized their “lifelong commitment” to each other at an exclusive Christian wedding at Shangri-La Resort & Spa in Boracay, officiated by Pastor Joe Obordo of Alabang New Life Christian Fellowship, the couple’s church.

The wedding capped a romance that started in a chance meeting at a dinner in 2012 hosted at Rockwell by their mutual friends. Kim, a TV host, was born in England to a British father and a half-Filipina mother (who is part-Spanish/part-Chinese) and grew up in Adelaide, Australia where she studied Architecture (undergraduate).

Echo dramatized his marriage proposal to Kim on Aug. 4 last year after a Sunday worship at their church, with the theme “Jesus is…Unli Love.” Echo asked the permission from officiating pastor, Jeric Soriano, if he could go onstage to express his message of love. He started by saying that he could never explain why Jesus would choose to die for a sinner like him, saying aloud, “Why me?” Then, he turned to Kim and said, “Will you marry me?” Near tears, Kim answered, “Yes!”

At yesterday’s wedding, Echo wore a suit designed by Francis Libiran while Kim donned a beautiful bridal gown by Vania Romoff and more gowns by Ryan Madamba.

Present at the wedding were the couple’s families and friends led by their parents Lolita Bienewitz-Chan (mother of Kim), and Santiago Rosales and Rose Vibar (Echo’s parents). The entourage consisted of Best Men Ryan Manalo and Buji Libarnes; Maid/Matron of Honor Salome Jones; Principal Sponsors Gina Valenciano and Allan Critchett, Marinez Elizalde and Paul Chase, Mylene Evangelista and Jocel Evangelista, Coney Reyes and Johnny Manahan, Rico Ocampo, Joe Obordo, Laurenti Dyogi, and Gary Valenciano and Angeli Pangilinan-Valenciano; Bridesmaids Michelle Swinstead, Nikki dela Paz, Tin Magsaysay, Nina Santamaria, Samantha Godinez-Valenciano, Arianna Colamoncini and Mica Javier; Groomsmen Paolo Valenciano, Caloy Rivera, Dibs Trofeo, Gabriel Valenciano, Marvin Germo, Dohn Cerenado and Jeremiah Rosales; Bible Bearer Santino Rosales; and Flower Girls Satria Manalo and Athena Colico.

During the after-party, Gary and children Paolo and Kiana, and Julianne Tarroja sang love songs while DJ Dharyl del Pilar and GMT band rendered chart-toppers, homegrown favorites and party anthems.

On the eve of the wedding, the couple hosted a sunset pre-wedding party for their guests at Asya Premier Suites.

In last year’s interview, Echo said he would love to spend their honeymoon in Paris, with Kim adding, “A road trip in the countryside of Europe would be nice.”

Before then, Echo and Kim should be ready for the best gift they could give each other…themselves!

Good night, Echo and Kim. Sweet dreams!!!
