Luis on Angel: ‘I’m proudly her boyfriend’

MANILA, FEBRUARY 17, 2014 (PHILSTAR) By Chuck Smith - Luis Manzano revealed that he and Angel Locsin are officially a couple again.

“I’m proudly her boyfriend,” the actor-TV host said when asked about the status of his relationship with Angel during an interview with ABS-CBN’s showbiz talk show “Buzz ng Bayan” on Sunday, February 16.

Their reconciliation came just a few weeks after Angel revealed she still has feelings for Luis during a press conference for her show “The Legal Wife.”

The actor-TV host explained their “spark was rekindled” after the two resumed communication with each other early this year. This was after two to three years of not talking to each other following their breakup.

“Some people believed kasi na when she came out on TV saying na mahal pa niya ako, na I had no idea, na it was the first time for us to talk after so long. But when came on TV, we were already talking before, we were already spending time with each other,” Luis said. “I would like to think that we were already falling in love once again.”

Luis and Angel first became a couple in 2007 but they broke up in 2009.

After their breakup, Angel entered into a relationship with football player Phil Younghusband. Meanwhile, Luis became GMA-7 actress’ Jennylyn Mercado’s boyfriend.

However, both relationships ended October last year. This prompted talks that Luis was the reason for Angel and Phil’s breakup. There were also speculations that Angel was behind the Luis and Jennylyn split.

But the “Minute It to Win It” host denied these rumors, reiterating that he and Angel had no communication two to three years following their breakup.

“With everything being said and done by so many people, Jen and I know the real reason why we broke up,” he said. “Our families know the reason why we broke up. Our friends, people close to us know the reason why we broke up. And we are definitely sure it’s not Angel.”

Luis added: “If you look at it from a viewer’s standpoint, mukhang pinagusapan (yung reconciliation) considering how close the breakup was. Ako, I didn’t even know na nag-break sila. But we also considered our partners dear to us.”

“Pero I guess they broke up for a reason, we broke up for a reason, and I guess the reason is us pa rin through chance, through destiny.”

Are they planning to get married soon? “This year, maybe not. 2015, we’ll call you,” Luis told “Buzz ng Bayan” host Boy Abunda.

MANILA, Philippines – Actress Angel Locsin professed her love for ex-boyfriend Luis Manzano in an TV interview, days after her admission that she still has feelings for the actor-TV host.

“Hindi ko talaga ma-explain kung ano itong nararamdaman ko ngayon. Basta alam ko lang, mahal ko yung tao at gusto ko siyang makasama,” she said in an interview with ABS-CBN’s showbiz talk show “Buzz ng Bayan” on Sunday, January 19.

During a bloggers’ conference for her upcoming show “The Legal Wife” on Wednesday, January 15, the Kapamilya actress revealed she wants to reconcile with Luis. The two broke up in 2009.

Angel said that she and Luis have not gotten back together since her revelation. However, she admitted they are currently in communication with each other.

“Nag-uusap pa po kami. Kakausapin niya po yung daddy ko po,” the 28-year-old actress explained. “Hindi ako nagtatago, pero may mga bagay talaga na inaayos pa kami. But as of now, we’re happy, nag-e-enjoy kami sa isa’t isa, at siguro nagiging honest kami sa isa’t isa.”

Angel added: “Sana maging maayos yung mga pag-uusap dahil ang dami naming di napag-usapan noon, nung naghiwalay kami.”

In his interviews regarding Angel’s confession last week, Luis admitted he’s open to “rekindling” his relationship with Angel.

Meanwhile, Phil Younghusband, Angel’s ex-boyfriend, admitted the Kapamilya actress is “still in my heart.”

Both Angel and Phil and Luis and Kapuso actress Jennylyn Mercado admitted their breakups October of last year. Both couples said their breakups were mutual and no third parties were involved.

The “Legal Wife” star again explained that Luis had nothing to do with her split with Phil, as she and the “Minute To Win It” host avoided each other two to three years prior their recent meetings.

Angel added she had nothing to do with Luis’ breakup with Jennylyn.

“Ako, sobrang against talaga ako sa mga nanloloko ng tao. At wala akong history na nanloko ako ng boyfriend o kung sinoman na inaway na ganyan… malayo po talaga yun,” she said.

“Naghiwalay po kami, mutual yung decision, wala pong kinalaman si Luis,” Angel said of her breakup with Phil.

MANILA, Philippines – Phil Younghusband admits he still has feelings for former girlfriend Angel Locsin, three months after their breakup.

Phil’s statement came at the same time Angel admitted in an ABS-CBN press conference that she still has feelings for her ex-boyfriend Luis Manzano.

“When you picture your future with someone and you love someone, you can’t get over them that easy. So I still care for Angel and she’s still in my heart. I still love her and she means a lot to me,” he told members of the press during the launch of Ayala Land’s Circuit Makati on Tuesday, January 15.

He added, “I really want what’s best for her and I want her to be happy.”

The 26-year-old athlete explained he does not believe “you can fall out of love that easily.” The two admitted their relationship in 2012, more than a year after they began dating.

The football player refused to comment when asked about the Kapamilya’s actress statement about Luis.

“As long as she’s happy,” Phil said when asked what he will feel if Angel begins dating again. "I don’t know. I don’t know what it feels so I don’t know.”

Meanwhile, Phil shared he is not pursuing anyone romantically as of the moment. In December, he was rumored to be dating KC Concepcion. They both denied the issue, saying they only met once during a TV guest appearance years ago.

The Philippine national football team member talked to the press for the groundbreaking of Circuit Makati’s three sports facilities—namely, Gatorade-Chelsea Blue Pitch, Citykart Racing, and Mountain Dew Skate Park.

Phil added he’s not ready love anew just months after his split with Angel.

“Hindi ako ready to date. Gusto ko mag-concentrate sa football, sa academy, sa pamilya. Yun ang priority ko now,” he said.

LOOKS like Jennylyn Mercado was able to bounce back very quickly from her heartaches after Luis Manzano broke up with her.

She looks so pretty at the presscon of her new soap, “Rhodora X.” “Nakatulong nang malaki ang pagiging busy ko sa trabaho kaya wala na akong time magmukmok,” she says. “Very challenging ang role ko as Rhodora X na may multiple personalities. We got a psychiatrist to help us interpret the character. Dahil sa traumatic experiences niya sa buhay, Rhodora created other personalities to defend herself from people who want to hurt her. Pero dahil din dito, naapektuhan ang mga taong malapit sa kanya. Na-miss ko talaga ang umarte after doing mostly hosting lately. Kaya kahit sobra akong nahirapan sa role ko, enjoy pa rin ako.”

“Rhodora X” is her reunion with Starstruck 1 colleagues Mark Herras and Yasmien Kurdi. “Kulang na nga lang si Rainier Castillo at buo na ang Final Four namin. Ten years na kami in the business and it’s nice to work with them again. We were able to maintain naman our friendship through the years, lalo na si Mark na kahit na may nakaraan kami, nanatiling mabait at reliable na kaibigan. I’m happy naman for Yasmien dahil nagbalik na siya sa showbiz. Sayang kung magre-retire lang siya kasi magaling siyang artista. Pareho na kaming nanay ngayon at napagkukuwentuhan namin ang mga anak namin. I’m glad na kasama rin namin si Mark Anthony Fernandez, who I last worked with in ‘Little Star’ in 2010. Napakahusay ring actor kaya masarap kaeksena.”

Has she heard that Luis might reconcile with Angel Locsin? “Naku, 2014 na at very positive ang outlook ko sa buhay. Ayoko nang pag-usapan ang mga ganyan para good vibes. I just want to stay focus sa trabaho ko. I’m just happy that I’m so blessed dahil sunud-sunod ang projects na dumarating. So career na lang muna at ang anak kong si Alex Jazz ang priorities ko.”

ALDEN EXPLAINS 'GAY LOVER' PHOTO

ALDEN Richards says he doesn’t need to defend himself from that malicious post of a blogger insinuating he has a gay lover. “Ako nga mismo ang nag-post noong pictures na 'yun,” he says. “Outing 'yun with my fans at ang kasama ko, yung president ng fans club ko, si Nate Gonzaga.

Actually, ang daming kasamang pictures noon with me bonding with my other fans, pero ang pinili lang niya 'yung magkasama kami ni Nate para malagyan ng malisya yung identical shorts na suot namin. E, bigay lang 'yun ng Folded and Hung, which I’m endorsing.

At the presscon of “Carmela,” he’s very happy with the positive feedback after several scenes from his new drama series with Marian Rivera were shown. Next time, love scene naman daw.”

He said that he has thanked Marian repeatedly for choosing him to be her leading man. “Talagang paulit-ulit ang pasasalamat ko sa kanya. Sabi ko, hindi mo lang alam kung gaano kalaking tulong ito sa akin, sa career ko, pati sa buong family ko.”

COMEBACKING ACTOR ENJOYS STINT

REMEMBER Dante Ponce? Managed by Boy Abunda’s Backroom, his career as a singer-actor was starting to bloom in 1993, having recorded an album for Alpha Records. He also did a movie for Viva Films, “Hanggang Saan Hanggang Kailan” with Dina Bonnevie and Alice Dixson. Then all of a sudden, he left the country. What happened to him?

“I fell in love,” he says. “Everyone discouraged me then kasi sayang naman daw ang naumpisahan ko ng showbiz career. But I already made my decision. I got married at 24. My wife is a doctor based in the U.S. and so that’s where we settled down. We lived in California, in Virginia then in Hawaii where I established my career as a photographer, mostly for weddings. We now have four kids, three girls and one boy. Glys is 18, Armand is 16, Jasmine is 14 and Sofia is 10. My wife is now based in Brunei as a consultant to the Sultan. They’re putting up a cancer center and she’s an oncologist. Madalas siyang umuuwi rito. It’s our mutual decision na bumalik sa Pilipinas. My kids were so happy to experience Christmas here for the first time.”

Any regrets about leaving showbiz? “None, I have a beautiful family. But it’s not easy to uproot yourself, huh. Na-missed ko talaga ang showbiz. And now that I’m back, I feel that this is really where I belong. Actually, nagbakasyon lang ako rito and Bettina Aspillaga of Backroom brought me to ABS-CBN. When Direk Wenn Deramas saw me, kinuha agad ako to play Gen. Barredo in ‘Galema’, ang stepfather ni Matteo Guidicelli at pangunahing kalaban ni Zuma. I didn’t expect na makukuha ako agad. So nag-gym muna ako kasi bulky ako noon. Nagpakundisyon. I thought, it’s a short role, pero humaba at kasama pa ako sa series hanggang ngayon. I heard we’re extended until March kasi ‘Galema’ is rating very well. Tapos, sinama rin ako ni Direk Wenn sa ‘Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy’ where I played Vice Ganda’s doctor.”

He has no illusions that he can still be a top matinee idol. “I’m 43, siyempre I’ll get roles na bagay lang sa akin. I won’t hesitate to accept father roles. Basta I’m glad to be back in showbiz and I’m thankful to my wife for being very supportive.”
