GP REYES & ANDI MANZANO: A ROMANCE THAT STARTED ON FACEBOOK

Club owner, restaurateur, and Century Properties creative director GP Reyes met the love of his life, the beautiful radio DJ, host, and celebrity Andi Manzano in the most modern of ways: Facebook. GP had always found her attractive but had never met her so at first he attempted to go the traditional route by going through a “bridge”: Andi’s cousin Lucky, who promptly called her up and said, “Hey, my friend GP has a crush on you, can I give him your number?” Understandably Andi refused because she didn’t even know who GP was at the time. Luckily (pun intended), GP didn’t give up so easily. He quickly sent her a message on Facebook: GP (12/13/10 1:13am): You don’t know me...but I figured getting this message from a complete stranger would probably be less creepy than whatever it is Luis must’ve told you.... I told him to be smooth... but all that MMA training has apparently damaged his capacity for social finesse... So, here’s me taking the little flashy thingies those Men in Black guys use, and erasing from your memory whatever it is Mr. Manzano said... ...We can start with “Hi! I’m GP.” Four days later, she answered: Andi (12/17/10 11:46am): hahahahaha. hi. im andi. After about a month of getting to know each other online, she finally agreed to meet him.

ALSO: Vhong Navarro claims Deniece Cornejo performed oral sex on him

In the affidavit of television host Ferdinand “Vhong” Navarro (photo) that the National Bureau of Investigation filed in the Department of Justice Tuesday afternoon, he claimed that his supposed rape victim Deniece Millet Cornejo had performed oral sex on him in their meeting before the alleged mauling. According to the affidavit, before the sexual activity, Navarro and Cornejo met at the latter’s unit at Forbeswood Heights Condominium at Bonifacio Global City and consumed a bottle of white wine then proceeded to kiss each other. “After consuming one bottle of white wine, they made out and it led to oral sex…,” the affidavit said, though the date when the incident happened was not given. In the affidavit, Navarro and Cornejo met at a sneaker store a couple of years ago wherein they exchanged their contact details resulting to a friendship between the two. It added that their communication abruptly ended but resumed two months ago through Facebook and Viber. It also said that on January 22, the date of the alleged beating up of Navarro courtesy of Cedric Lee and his friends, Cornejo invited Navarro to have dinner at her place. GP Reyes & Andi Manzano: A romance that started on Facebook

MANILA, FEBRUARY 3, 2014 (PHILSTAR) Club owner, restaurateur, and Century Properties creative director GP Reyes met the love of his life, the beautiful radio DJ, host, and celebrity Andi Manzano in the most modern of ways: Facebook.

He quickly sent her a message on Facebook:

GP (12/13/10 1:13am): You don’t know me...but I figured getting this message from a complete stranger would probably be less creepy than whatever it is Luis must’ve told you.... I told him to be smooth... but all that MMA training has apparently damaged his capacity for social finesse...

So, here’s me taking the little flashy thingies those Men in Black guys use, and erasing from your memory whatever it is Mr. Manzano said...

...We can start with “Hi! I’m GP.”

Four days later, she answered:

Andi (12/17/10 11:46am): hahahahaha. hi. im andi.

After about a month of getting to know each other online, she finally agreed to meet him.

GP says, “It was a Friday night in early January. She said she’d be in Barcino’s having wine with her cousin Lesley and I show up in a suit trying to look all debonair and suave, only to be sweating balls in the heat of the Greenbelt 2 al fresco smoking area. Thankfully, my powers of persuasion managed to pry these two ladies from their cozy stools in Greenbelt and we headed to more familiar territory: Opus and then Republiq, where we clicked. Immersed in all the clubbing chaos, I knew. I just knew.”

And from that very first meeting, Andi and GP were never apart. In fact, just two days later, GP drove to Manzano family home in Antipolo to meet her parents. They spent virtually every single day together and travelled the world almost every month for two years.

On Oct. 7, 2012, coming home from one of their many trips, GP proposed to Andi at the arrival area of NAIA 3. As they walked out of the baggage claim carousel, one by one different singers began to surround Andi, until an entire flash mob was singing in chorus to a song Andi sent to GP via Youtube when the first started dating: Marry Me by Train. GP then got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife, and she joyously said, “Yes.”

They got married on Nov. 12, 2013 in Baguio in part because when they first started dating GP drove Andi to an event there balikan as panliligaw, and also partially because Baguio is truly a beautiful place.

As a big Porsche fanatic, GP and his buddies drove up in various sports cars up the zigzags of Kennon Road. A few days before, Andi had a special bowling tourney for her friends, while GP, organized the GPR golf cup for his friends. Bonito Singson won Class A champ, Chito Melo won Class B, and Sherwin Hing won the Class C.

The couple hosted an intimate rehearsal dinner for the members of the entourage and sponsors at the Hilltop restaurant the evening before. At 2 p.m. the following day, a wonderful and truly emotional ceremony ensued at St. Joseph’s Church as GP, escorted by his mother Daisy Izon, and four brothers Paul, Jappy, Chuck, and Francis, waited for his gorgeous bride escorted by parents Bobit and Rose Manzano.

Ninongs were Louie Ysmael, Inigo Zobel, Ambassador Jose E.B. Antonio, Jacques Dupasquier, Ricardo Po, Mike Toledo, and Bonito Singson. Ninangs were Maria Luisa Alvendia, Angie Cadungog, Mae Corcuera, Maribel Dario, Ma. Paz Regina Escano, Christina Manzano, and Angelita Serrano.

GP’s groomsmen were Jigger Antonio, Erik Cua, Romeo Cucueco, Manolet Dario, Stephen Ku, Miguel Manzano, Lito Serrano, Rico Serrano, and Kevin Tan. While Andi’s birdesmaids were Maybel Cabrera, Ida Gomez, Monique Jamlang, Reg King, Jess Mendoza, Ces Olondriz, and Margaux Reyes-Yao.

Secondary sponsors were Matt Lim, Celine Gabriel, Ivan Zalameda, Cat Arambulo, Marco Antonio, and Tina Tinio. Ring bearer was AJ Yao, Bible bearer was Asher Antonio, coin bearer was Devon Antonio, Rosary bearer was Pablo Manzano, and flower girl was Missy Ysmael.

A reception for 300 guests followed at the historic Baguio Country Club, with wonderful speeches from family and friends, and a mini concert by Andi’s tito Gary Valenciano, after which the party kicked off with Republiq, Opus, and Prive’s top DJ’s providing music for guests to dance till early morning.

1. What got you started and what do you consider your first major success?

I began doing events and PR for various brands and companies, and this developed into a club-promoting career that started off with a residency in Louie Y’s legendary Venezia/V-Bar. He has since become a good friend, business partner and mentor. Embassy, I would say was a tremendous success and that was really an experience. Another success was MEMBERS ONLY, which allowed me to partner with Louie Ysmael. It reopens in a new and better incarnation this October as Prive Luxury Club.

2. What do you look for in a bar/nightspot in order to insure its success?

Location, ambience, service and music; the right partners and a beautiful crowd.

3. Too often are stories heard about club owners drowning (almost literally) in their own success, or burning out. How does one ensure longevity in a business like this?

It’s always about balance. As creative director of Century Properties by day. it necessitates that my nights at the bars and clubs have a natural cut-off time. My two responsibilities of day and night are quite symbiotic, if I didn’t have my day job I’d party out ‘til sunrise and burnout. If I only had my office work, I’d go crazy in the day. The night inspires my creativity by day and vice versa.

4. Drinking in the Philippines is actually a cultural thing. It can be participated in as a rite of passage, a drowning of sorrows, a means to celebrate or a cementing of friendship. Some may argue that, given a good venue, air-conditioning and decent service, one can’t go wrong in putting up a bar or club. Yet such businesses do go under. Why do you think that is?

A great concept is key. And with that is everything that goes into the product from the way the drinks are mixed, to the way the music is played, to the way the lights shine on you in the bathroom, waiters remembering your name or your favorite drink, the overall vibe of the space. It’s all a pretty exacting science. Another factor is getting it packed with the right crowd. Our establishments have had the good fortune of getting the proper and more popular crowds in the country. We’re very proud of that.

5. What constitutes a good time for you?

I mentioned this before in another interview and I’ll say it again. A lot of people look down on the nightlife scene as something superficial. All about the booze, women, fights, etc. But I’ve always seen it differently. I love people in general and am fascinated by interpersonal relationships and meeting new people. A night out is a celebration of people and the bar/club is the ultimate setting for a diverse set of emotions. You go out for a night out for various reasons ranging from extremes like to drown your sorrows, celebrate a birthday or to catch a glimpse of your crush.

The nightlife is not about charging 180 bucks for a 20 peso beer, it’s about that beer and where it takes you through the night. A night out after all, is a celebration of one more day of living.

I like this quote, I forget from where: “When is the night over? Is it the start of sunrise or the end of it? Is it when you finally go to sleep or simply when you realize that you have to?”

6. What do you do when you’re not out at the club(s)?

I play golf, or go to the beach, or go on long drives.

7. Any parting shots?

One of the very underrated aspects of our country that I feel is largely unpromoted is our nightlife, and by that I don’t mean the girly bars and such. I mean we have such a vibrant scene that’s so diverse. And we are a people that love festivity and celebration. EVERY night of the week there’s a party. We have truly world class nightclubs and bars. We have the most hospitable staff, and some of the most talented DJ’s I’ve ever heard.

Manila is a party capital and every international DJ or celebrity who we’ve brought over agrees that it is an awesome place and just needs to be promoted. So let’s keep the scene thriving and exciting. While the industry has its dark facets as do all industries, there is also the side of it that creates authentic joy and lasting friendships. Let’s raise a glass to that.

It also said that on January 22, the date of the alleged beating up of Navarro courtesy of Cedric Lee and his friends, Cornejo invited Navarro to have dinner at her place.

According to the document, when Navarro was inside Cornejo’s unit, two men came out of the room and one pointed a gun at the comedian-TV host. They then tied and blindfolded Navarro and simultaneously rained blows on him.

During the beating, Navarro claimed that he heard several people enter the unit who joined in attacking him. Navarro said these men then pulled his trousers down and removed his blindfold.

Navarro then claimed that, while he was naked, video cameras were pointed at him and that the perpetrators ordered him to utter “Ako si Vhong, ni-rape ko ang kaibigan ko.” (I am Vhong and I raped my friend).

According to the affidavit, Cornejo and Lee conspired on the alleged crime saying that the two “are in harmony in doing their acts.”

It said that Cornejo and Lee agreed on their actions to attain their goal of restraining the liberty of Navarro as they threatened to kill him and his family and exact a payment of P2 million from Navarro’s alleged rape.
