MANILA, JUNE 24, 2013 (ABS-CBN) by Miguel Dumaual - Aiza Seguerra and Charice Pempengco are both lesbians and singers who started out young, but that's as far as the similarities go.

This was Seguerra's message shortly after she performed a duet with the 21-year-old for the first time at the "Tambayan Hits" concert Friday night. The two sang an acoustic version of the pop hit "Titanium," accompanied by singer-songwriter Noel Cabangon on guitar.

"I don't think 'uma-Aiza' siya. She has her own person," Seguerra said of Pempengco, who recently admitted she is a lesbian in a local interview that made international headlines.

"Siguro [alisin] lang natin sa bokabularyo na porke lesbyana, 'uma-Aiza.' No. I think iba-iba tayo ng pagkatao. I think she would rather be 'chuma-Charice,' ako, 'uma-Aiza,'" she said.

A child star at the age of 3, Seguerra re-emerged in 2001 as an acoustic singer whose hit "Pagdating ng Panahon" paved the way for mainstream success. At the time, she was already openly gay.

Pempengco, on the other hand, started joining singing competitions at the age of 7. After appearing in a number of local TV shows as an aspiring singer, the "singing sensation" made it big in 2007, when a viral YouTube video of her performing led to her American TV debut.

Already with several accomplishments overseas -- including a concert tour with mentor David Foster, a widely released album, and a guest appearance on the hit TV musical "Glee" -- Pempengco decided in June to "come out" despite being urged otherwise by her mother out of concern for her career.

"I'm very happy for her," Seguerra said of Pempengco on Friday. "At the same time, nakakatuwa. Nakikita ko 'yung support ng tao. Ako, naniniwala naman ako na if that's the truth, if there's no bad intention or anything and if there's love, there's nothing wrong with it."

For her part, Pempengco considers her first-ever duet with Seguerra a "dream-come-true," citing the 29-year-old singer as her inspiration.

"Sobrang kinabahan ako kanina kasi first time kaming nag-duet talaga, and definitely dream-come-true, kasi I think lahat ng tao inaantay din 'yung duet na 'yun, e, dinuet pa namin yung favorite song ko. Very thankful ako, thankful ako kay Aiza na in-invite niya ako," she said.

Both Seguerra and Pempengco hope their Friday night duet won't be their last, with the latter even expressing hopes for a joint concert.
