FIL-CAN MIKEY BUSTOS' OWN TAKE ON 'GANGNAM' GAINING POPULARITY

MANILA, JANUARY 11, 2013 (MANILA BULLETIN) By NR RAMOS - Funnyman Mikey Bustos is fast garnering another YouTube hit with his own take on the hugely popular song ”Gangnam Style.”

Not that he simply danced and lip-synced to the song, mind you. Unlike many others who have parodied one of the biggest hit songs of 2012, the talented Filipino-Canadian actually wrote new lyrics for it.

Currently with over 795,323 hits is “Opo Pinoy Style,” which celebrates Pinoy quirkiness in a humorous manner.

Part of the lyrics read: “Yeah it’s hotter here and that is why my skin is brown; And you’ll find water here to wash my bum after I’m done raiding my Frigidaire...”

Another part goes: “I wear barong, while eating chicharon; Just watch us take over the world with a plastic balloon;” And “I’m on my cell phone, texting in jejemon, and I am BV during brown out cuz there’s no aircon, ba’t ganu’n, Opo Pinoystyle.”

The video, shot entirely in and out of greater Manila, showcased some of the city’s many attractions including the Luneta Park and the Quirino Grandstand even as it also creatively referenced several cultural idiosyncrasies unique to Pinoys including the Jeepney, the Balot, the Tinikling and the Calesa. Added to the whole enchilada is the surprise appearance of Paula Salvosa known more as the girl in the viral Amalayer video.
