JESSICA PERFORMS FOR US MEMORIAL DAY (VIDEO) CHAT WITH FANS ONLINE

MANILA, MAY 29, 2012 (ABS-CBN) By Shiela Reyes -  “American Idol” runner-up Jessica Sanchez was among the stars who came out to celebrate the Memorial Day weekend in the United States.

The Filipino-Mexican singer was part of the star-studded lineup of performers for the National Memorial Day Concert in Washington D.C.

Sanchez led the singing of the American national anthem “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

She shared the stage with the National Symphony Orchestra and fellow performers including "Idol" alumnus Chris Daughtry, Grammy winner Natalie Cole and country superstar Trace Adkins.

Sanchez was also supposed to sing "The Prayer" and "God Bless America" live but the show was cancelled half-way through due to bad weather.

According to the official Twitter account of PBS, the management just decided to air yesterday's dress rehearsal to fill in the second half of the show.

"The first 45 minutes of tonight's Natl Memorial Day Concert were broadcast before weather forced rest of the show to be canceled," it said.

"#MemDayPBS concert cancelled half way through due to weather. We edited in video from yesterday's dress rehersal to fill in 2nd half," PBS added.

Chat with fans

Jessica Sanchez holds online chat via ustream with her fans. After the PBS Memorial Day Concert was called off, Sanchez held a livestream chat with her fans who were eager to see her perform live. Many of her fans requested the 16-year-old to sing for them even on ustream.

Sanchez performed bits of “Say My Name,” “Love on Top,” “It Doesn’t Matter Anymore,” “Where Have You Been” “The Prayer,” “Stuttering” and “I Will Always Love You.”

Sanchez also answered fan questions if she has plans to come and visit the Philippines.

According to the 16-year-old, she would definitely love to visit her mom’s home country if given the chance.

“I’m not sure but hopefully [I can visit the Philippines] in the future. Eventually someday, hopefully soon,” she said.

Sanchez also said she misses her “Idol” family, especially winner Phillip Phillips. “I miss Phillip so much it’s not even funny,” she said.

Before her livestream chat ended, Sanchez picked several lucky fans who gave their numbers to her. She individually called them to express gratitude for supporting her on “Idol.”

After her PBS Memorial Day Concert appearance, Sanchez said she will be flying to Orlando, Florida tomorrow for her Disney World tour. – With a report from ANC
