PANDAY 2 IS GRADED B BY CINEMA EVALUATION BOARD
MANILA, DECEMBER 23, 2011 (STAR) Laden with spectacular effects and delightful visuals coupled with a touching story, "Ang Panday 2" gets a B from the Cinema Evaluation Board.
"Ang Panday 2," produced by Imus Productions and GMA Films, is directed by Mac Alejandre and features Sen.
Bong Revilla reprising the legendary role, Flavio, originally played by King of Philippine Movies, Fernando Poe, Jr.
"Ninong FPJ gave me his blessings to carry on the Panday legacy," said Bong who never fails to acknowledge "Da King" and his widow Susan Roces who always tops Bong’s list of invites to any "Panday" events (preview or premiere, etc).
"I owe it to him to take care of the character and the franchise. I cannot afford anything less."
Iza Calzado returns as Panday’s lady love, Maria Makiling.
The indestructible blacksmith gets a new allay in the beautiful Marian Rivera as Arlana, who transforms into Bagwis.
Bagwis is the dragon who has accompanied the young Flavio from his youth.
She reveals her true self when she sees Panday’s life threatened.
She tells him that she comes from the peace-loving clan Ragona, which is led by Amang Daluyong, played by Eddie Garcia (photo at right).
Alice Dixson is her mom; Kris Bernal, her jealous younger sister. Kris is in love with Alden Richards, who has feelings for Marian.
Panday’s heroism was introduced to the public by "Komiks King" Carlo Caparas in the mid-‘70s in graphic komiks details.
From there, the hero caped to the big screen in 1980 in the movie topbilling FPJ, followed six times since then: "Ang Pagbabalik ng Panday" (1981), "Ang Panday…Ikatlong Yugto" (1982), "Ang Panday 4" (1984), "Dugo ng Panday" (The Blaksmith’s Legay, 1993), "Hiwaga ng Panday" (1998) and "Ang Panday" (2009).
The franchise was also serialized by ABS-CBN with Jericho Rosales in the title role.
In the latest incarnation, Phillip Salvador plays the major villain, Lizardo.
