MANILA, APRIL 1, 2013 (PHILSTAR) By Aurea Calica - It is not impossible to rise from almost a decade of stumbling along.

This was the Lenten message of President Aquino to Filipinos during the Holy Week break, reminding them to give even a little of themselves to others and help the Philippines achieve progress.

“It is not impossible to envision progress, especially for our fellow Filipinos who are in greatest need. With guidance and direction from Christ, we were able to show the effectiveness of focusing not on selfish interests but on the welfare of the people,” the President said in Filipino.

Aquino also said Filipinos should remember and emulate the generosity and humility of Jesus Christ.

“He became an example of generosity and love for others. As followers of Christ, it is but right to follow his good example,” Aquino said.

The President said nothing could compare to the sacrifices made by Christ, including offering His own life, and that if things were to be summed up, He was asking for too little from the people: “To love and take care of others. Can we bear to deprive Him of this?”

As a nation, the President said the Philippines had proven so much for being united in charitable works and concern for others.

“This Holy Week, we are again reminded of the importance of serving as a light to each other, and the brightness that it can bring to the whole nation. The step we have taken has been good and this Lenten season, may we continue to reflect on how we can nurture the seeds of brotherhood sowed by the Lord God,” Aquino said, as he wished everyone a meaningful and peaceful Lenten break.

‘Riverside retreat’ for Aquino By Joyce Pangco Panares | Posted on Mar. 27, 2013 at 12:01am | 1,058 views

President Benigno Aquino III will spend the Lenten season at the “Pangarap Riverside Resort” – his own joke on his official residence, Bahay Pangarap, which is within the compound of the Presidential Security Group.

This is the first time since he took office that Mr. Aquino will stay in Manila for Holy Week, as he spent the last two Lenten seasons in Tarlac and Baguio.

“I’m trying to look for my copy of the film Jesus Christ Superstar. It’s not too heavy- the way it reminds of what our Christian faith is supposed to be and what Christ had to undergo to save all of us,” the President said.

Aquino inspected major transportation hubs yesterday, including Pier 12 in Port Area, Manila, the old domestic airport and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3, and the Victory Liner bus terminal in Pasay City.

‘Riverside’ vacation for Noy By Delon Porcalla (The Philippine Star) | Updated March 27, 2013 - 12:00am

MANILA, Philippines - This year, he’s staying home.

President Aquino said yesterday the prospect of spending the week at the “Pangarap Riverside Resort” watching the rock musical “Jesus Christ Superstar” seemed more appealing than joining thousands of vacationers in a crowded Baguio City or visiting his hometown in Tarlac.

“Pangarap Riverside Resort” refers to Bahay Pangarap, his official residence across the Pasig River from Malacañang.

“I gave it a more beautiful name: Pangarap Riverside Resort,” he jokingly told Palace reporters who joined him during his inspection of ports, bus terminals and airports ahead of the anticipated Holy Week rush.

He said he is now “trying to look for a copy, my copy” of the film “Jesus Christ Superstar,” which he plans to watch for the nth time either on Maundy Thursday or Good Friday.

Bahay Pangarap, which was designed by Aquino’s close friend Manny Dimaculangan, is fit for a 53-year-old like Aquino. It has a swimming pool overlooking the Pasig River.

In the Holy Week of 2011, Aquino was in Baguio City with his close friends, among them chairman Cristino Naguiat of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.

Last year, he went to Hacienda Luisita in his hometown in Tarlac.
