GMA  OFF  TO  THAILAND,  DUBAI  ON  GOOD  FRIDAY

MANILA, APRIL 9, 2009
(STAR) President Arroyo is expected to leave for Pattaya, Thailand tomorrow to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit.

Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said that as of yesterday, there was no change in the schedule of the President, in spite of the helicopter accident involving some of her senior aides.

“Right now we have not gotten word if there are changes in her schedule. She is expected to leave at 2:30 p.m. Friday for Pattaya. That was the original schedule. We do not know as of now, we have to verify,” Ermita said.

The President will join her ASEAN counterparts as well as the leaders of China, South Korea, India, New Zealand and Australia for the ASEAN+3 and +6 summits.

Upon arrival in Thailand, Mrs. Arroyo will immediately participate in the informal working dinner of the ASEAN leaders.

The next day, she will attend the meetings of the ASEAN+3 (Japan, China, South Korea) and ASEAN+6 (Japan, China, South Korea, India, New Zealand, Australia).

On Sunday, there will be an East Asia Summit and meetings between the ASEAN and the United Nations.

From Pattaya, the President is expected to fly to Dubai on Monday to attend the employment conference and stay for two days, during which she will hold a series of business meetings with the local business community.

Mrs. Arroyo will also attend an event hosted by the Filipino community in Dubai. The President is expected to be back in Manila on Tuesday, April 14. – Marvin Sy
