GMA  LEADS  CABINET  IN  HOLY WEEK  RETREAT  IN  BAGUIO  CITY

BAGUIO CITY, MARCH 21, 2008 (BULLETIN) By DEXTER A. SEE — President Arroyo will lead members of her Cabinet in a retreat at the Presidential Mansion here today, Good Friday, at around 5 p.m.

The traditional Holy Week retreat for Malacañang officials is a regular undertaking during the First Family’s Holy Week break in this mountain resort city.

The President, who is spending her seven-day Holy Week break here, had a very light schedule yesterday, Holy Thursday.

In her Lenten message, the President called for unity in addressing the needs of the poor people who want food on their table, a good job, a decent education and a peaceful community.

Mrs. Arroyo is expected to attend to numerous engagements in the Cordilleras and Regions I and II this week to promote the national government’s anti-poverty projects.

The President has been meeting with local leaders from various parts of Luzon at the Mansion House to get the sentiments of their constituents on how the government can help in addressing the problem of poverty in their respective areas.

While the government has embarked on the Serbisyo Muna anti-poverty caravan as one of the measures against poverty, Cordillera leaders believe sufficient infrastructure must be delivered down to the provincial, municipal, and barangay levels, to boost development in the countryside.

Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff Gen. Hermogenes Esperon, Jr. said the Baguio retreat on Good Friday is the second of a series of retreats for Malacañang officials.

Last Holy Wednesday, several Cabinet members attended a retreat in Malacañang.
