GMA  AT  PNP  ANNIVERSARY  TODAY

MANILA
, January 30, 2006, (MALAYA) PRESIDENT Arroyo will be the guest of honor in the celebration of the Philippine National Police’s 15th anniversary at the PNP national headquarters in Camp Crame today.

PNP spokesman Chief Supt. Leopoldo Bataoil said today’s celebration will be "simple and meaningful," will carry the theme "Transforming the PNP for a Stronger Republic."

Bataoil said the President will lead in conferring awards on deserving police units and individuals during the celebration.

He said Mrs. Arroyo will be secured by the Presidential Security Group working with Camp Crame base police, the Quezon City Police District, and the National Capital Region Police Office.

"Although nothing big is expected to be announced by the President, the 15th PNP Day celebration will be a time for those deserving policemen to receive commendations from the President," Bataoil said.

He said the PNP will only spend a "minimal" amount because of the simplicity of the celebration.

In a pre-anniversary celebration last week, however, PNP chief Arturo Lomibao inaugurated 88 condominium units built inside Camp Crame under the PNP housing program initiated by former PNP chief Edgardo Aglipay. The units will be used by policemen assigned to Camp Crame.

Lomibao also stood as godfather to the 17 police personnel who wed their partners at a mass wedding at the multipurpose center within Crame. – Raymond Africa
