By Ramil Bajo  —  Bangon Pilipinas presidential candidate Bro. Eddie Villanueva is set to announce next week the seven senatorial bets — who he called the "Blessed Seven" — who will get the votes of his more than two million supporters around the country.

In his campaign sortie here, Villanueva said Bangon Pilipinas will "adopt" the seven senatorial candidates and he will name them during their grand rally on May 6 at the Rizal Park in Manila.

Villanueva said the "Blessed Seven" are sure of getting the votes of his 2.8 million followers.

Villanueva, head of the Jesus Is Lord (JIL) Fellowship, said he has commissioned their so-called Council of Elders to choose the seven candidates.

"Party standards will be strictly imposed in choosing the ‘Blessed Seven.’ A rigid screening will be conducted to ensure a better selection. Ayaw naming magkamali sa pagpili (We don’t want to err in our choices)," he said.

A close aide of Villanueva hinted that a senatorial candidate with a "clean record" and who believes in "new politics" as opposed to traditional politics may likely be considered in the screening.

When asked if he could give out some names, Villanueva smiled and said, "Sa ngayon, I don’t have the names yet. I just rely on the report of the screening committee. I cannot make a disclosure. I hope you understand."

However, a certain Anthony Cruz, said to be a media officer of Bangon Pilipinas, said Villanueva is seriously considering senatorial candidates Heherson Alvarez and Carlos Padilla.

"Sa tingin ko si Alvarez at Padilla siguradong makakapasok na sa pito dahil (I’m sure Alvarez and Padilla are sure of being among the seven because) both of them have (passed) the major standards. Padilla, Alvarez and Bro. Eddie have a common past; they were all activists during their youth days," Cruz said.

Villanueva admitted that he is really considering Alvarez and Padilla but he said the decision lies with the screening committee.
