PING BACKS PALAWAN ON GAS SHARE

MANILA,  May 1, 2004

(MALAYA)
Sen. Panfilo Lacson on Thursday vowed to fight for the share of Palawan from its natural resources, particularly from the Malampaya gas project.

He said Palaweños had been fighting for a 40 to 60 percent sharing from the income to be generated from the project for the last three years but their call has been ignored by the Arroyo administration.

He noted that Palawan is one of the richest provinces in terms of natural resources but government neglect has prevented its full economic development.

The province, he said, is still struggling to recover one of one of its top income earners, tourism, which experienced a dip due to kidnappings and other crimes in the province.

Lacson said government lost its focus on the development of the country because of too much politics and massive corruption. The Arroyo administration used government funds for electioneering instead of using the cast resources to development, he said.

Lacson and his lone senatorial bet, Rep. Carlos Padilla, went to Palawan from Zamboanga City where he said he would win the Zamboanga peninsula.
