ROCO TO MEET WITH VILLANUEVA AFTER RETURN FROM U.S. ON WEDNESDAY
MANILA, April 27, 2004 (MANILA TIMES) By Patricia Esteves , Reporter - PRESIDENTIAL contenders Brother Eddie Villanueva and Raul Roco, are set to meet once Roco returns from Houston on Wednesday.
Jaime Galvez Tan, Alyansa ng Pag-asa campaign manager, said the two are scheduled to meet to galvanize the possibility of a merger.
“The two principals will definitely meet,” Tan said.
Tan said that unlike the unification talks between opposition candidates Fernando Poe Jr. and Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, which have been stalled from the very start, the prospects of a Villanueva-Roco merger are better because the lines of communication are open.
“We’re talking everyday . . . I’m quite optimistic because the discussions have been very cordial and friendly. We enjoy each other’s company, there’s so much camaraderie. We might as well continue this,” Tan said.
Tan also said that talks are progressing well and both camps have agreed to share in principle poll watchers and communication equipment.
Alyansa senatorial candidate Jun Yasay, one of the negotiators with Villanueva’s Bangon Pilipinas, also said there was a possibility that Villanueva’s camp would adopt vice-presidential candidate Hermie Aquino and the seven senatorial candidates of Alyansa even without the condition of Roco sliding down.
Tan said the two parties are discussing all possibilities.
He said it was not surprising for the two to join forces because they were both espousing a moral crusade from the very start.
“I think both Brother Eddie and Raul Roco have been advocating a moral leadership and moral ascendancy and genuine change. We feel that we clearly need a generation of honest government, free from graft and corruption to really propel this country back,” Tan said
