ARROYO GLOWS IN LA UNION
SAN FERNANDO CITY, LA UNION, March 4, 2004 (STAR) By Artemio Dumlao - Perhaps Ate Glo can now beat her opponents in the presidential race, including the so-called "King of Philippine Movies."
In a rare performance, President Arroyo sang the finale of a Filipino kundiman with La Union Gov. Victor Ortega during the province’s 154th founding anniversary celebration on Tuesday night.
Mrs. Arroyo and her party arrived here for a campaign sortie in the Ilocos region and everybody was expecting nothing more than a speech. The Philippine Information Agency based in the area even canceled a press conference at the capitol.
However, when the La Union mayors began singing a kundiman medley during the evening program, Ortega went down the stage to fetch Mrs. Arroyo and together they sang the song’s finale.
Though not dressed in an evening gown, the President in her blue business suit gamely sang and danced with the governor to the delight of the crowd.
The President has discovered a new way of wooing voters, not through speech or traditional debate, but through entertainment, that could possibly lead her to Malacañang for another term.
It completely changed her "taray" image, said a star-struck spectator. She can be "baduy" pala, said another.
