BINAY BIDS FAREWELL TO MAKATI RESIDENTS
MANILA, NOVEMBER 12, 2009 (STAR) By Jose Rodel Clapano - Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay bade goodbye yesterday to the residents of Makati during his birthday celebration with them in front of the city hall.
Binay, president of the United Opposition (UNO) and is running as vice presidential tandem with former President Estrada, said his birthday wish is to be given a chance to help restore the people’s faith in government and regain the respect of the international community to the country.
“For over 20 years you have supported me, and we have made history here in Makati,” he said, citing the city government’s success in making Makati a progressive city where residents benefit from social programs,” Binay said. He observed his traditional birthday celebration at the city hall quadrangle before some 3,000 officials, residents and guests.
“My birthday wish is to be given the opportunity to help turn our country into a progressive one and to restore the faith of the people in a government that will really look after their needs. By doing this, we can also regain the respect of the international community for the Philippines,” Binay said. The city’s barangay and sectoral leaders said they will help make Binay’s wish come true by actively promoting their mayor to relatives and friends in the provinces.
“You cannot underestimate the power of testimonials from thousands of people who have actually seen government work for them, and a leader who truly cares for them,” Councilor Romulo Pena Jr., chair of the city’s Liga ng mga Barangay, said. Binay was first appointed acting mayor in 1986 by former president Corazon Aquino.
