MAR,  CHIZ, LOREN  TOP  VP  SURVEY / LEAGUE OF PROVINCES FOR  GIBO-LOREN

MANILA, OCTOBER 17, 2009 (STAR) By Helen Flores - Sen. Manuel Roxas II topped the list of preferred vice presidential aspirants in the latest survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

Roxas got 38 percent of the vote from 1,800 respondents, followed by Senators Francis Escudero with 21 percent and Loren Legarda with 17 percent, Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada and Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay who each got six percent.

The results of the SWS vice-presidential survey were released by the online news agency www.abs-cbnnews.com.

The news website said the survey on the vice presidential preference was a rider or an additional question, which was commissioned by a private individual and was added to the SWS Third Quarter survey on the “Best Leader to Succeed President Arroyo” released by the polling agency last Wednesday.

The SWS quarterly survey, which was non-commissioned, showed that 60 percent of Filipinos believe Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III would be the best leader to succeed Mrs. Arroyo in 2010.

The website said that a private party paid for the rider question on the vice presidential aspirants for the SWS survey that was conducted on Sept. 18 to 21.

It said another rider question to the SWS September survey asked respondents to choose which leader they prefer for president among four names – Senator Aquino, Senator Manny Villar, former President Joseph Estrada, and Senator Escudero.

It said respondents were allowed to pick only one name.

Aquino again topped the list with 51 percent; followed by Villar with 20 percent, Estrada, 11 percent and Escudero, eight percent.

The agency said that respondents were also asked which among these four tandems they prefer: Aquino-Roxas, Villar-Vice President Noli de Castro, Escudero-Legarda, Estrada-Binay.

The website said the results showed that the tandem of Aquino-Roxas was the top choice of the respondents with 57 percent; followed by Villar-De Castro, 19 percent; and the tandems of Escudero-Legarda and Estrada-Binay with nine percent each.

The SWS survey was conducted from Sept. 18 to 21 and used face-to-face interviews with 1,800 adults.

It has an error margin of plus or minus 2.3 percentage points.

It has been the policy of the SWS not to release results of its surveys that were commissioned by private individuals, unless the concerned party approved the release.

League of Provinces endorses Gibo, Loren By Cecille Suerte Felipe (The Philippine Star) Updated October 17, 2009 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - The League of Provinces of the Philippines endorsed yesterday the candidacy of Defense Secretary Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro for president and Sen. Loren Legarda for vice president in the 2010 elections.

Sarangani Gov. Miguel Dominguez also proposed the coalition of Lakas-Kampi-CMD, Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) and the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP), which he described as a “marriage made in heaven.”

Lakas-Kampi-CMD had earlier indicated their intention to field Teodoro for president and Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno for vice president in the coming polls.

Dominguez said the league’s executive committee had a meeting yesterday afternoon in Mandaluyong City to raise fund for the victims of tropical storm “Ondoy” and typhoon “Pepeng.”

They have raised P7 million from various provinces that were not affected by the typhoons. The money will come from the calamity funds of each province.

During the meeting, most of the governors expressed their support for the proposed Teodoro-Legarda tandem.

Antique Gov. Salvacion Perez admitted that she loves Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino for the legacy left by his parents – former Sen. Ninoy Aquino and former President Corazon Aquino – but she believes Teodoro can lead the country better.

“The sentiment of a lot of us is we are very grateful to Ninoy and Cory, of course people would like to have their legacy, and we love him (Noynoy), we sympathize with him but if we think of the country, it should be Gibo,” Perez noted.

Both Dominguez and Perez said they have witnessed Teodoro as a good leader who has worked hard for the country, from dealing with the conflict in Mindanao to handling the tragedies brought about by Ondoy and Pepeng.

“Based on our experience working with him, Gilbert can lead the country. We had a meeting with Gilbert, and told him he could have taken advantage of Ondoy by taking rubber boat photos, but he told us he is not plastic, he’d rather work than go for photo opportunities,” Dominguez explained.

He called on other politicians to help the victims of the calamities instead of spending millions on television advertisements to promote themselves.

“Many politicians are spending millions on television ads, let’s stop that for now,” he added.

Perez said they had a mock elections among the governors during the league’s executive committee meeting, and Teodoro had the most number of votes.

“During the mock elections, Gibo got nine votes, Villar got two and Noynoy one while for vice president, Loren received seven votes, Puno had four, and Roxas four,” Perez added.

She noted that Teodoro could also be paired with Sen. Francis Escudero, Tourism Secretary Ace Durano and other NPC members.

There were reports that NPC will be endorsing Escudero for the presidential race, but there was no formal announcement yet.

Dominguez said that as early as August, the league of governors had endorsed Teodoro and the latest meeting was meant to affirm their support for him.
