YOU TUBE INCIDENT: NEW LAWS WANTED!
CEBU, APRIL 28, 2008 (STAR) INSIDE CEBU By Bobit S. Avila - That the House committee on agrarian reform has endorsed the extension of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) for another five years based solely on the fact that there are still some 1.2 million hectares of land that haven’t yet been distributed is sheer stupidity! Clearly there was no due diligence on the part of the House committee members and worse, this party-list Rep. Risa Hontiveros of Akbayan showed her true colors when she revealed that the land belonging to the family of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s husband Mike Arroyo was one of those she wanted to be distributed. Hell hath no fury than a woman scorned?
Extend CARP if it can be proven that it results in higher agriculture production. If not, then those 1.3 million hectares should be distributed not just to the so-called landless farmers, but also to farmers who can produce. Today we are facing the reality that our traditional markets for rice no longer sell to us in order to serve themselves first. That means we will certainly expect a shortfall in the supply of rice. This should not be a problem if we consider the only practical option left… give the land to those who produce, not just to the so-called landless who end up selling their land for profit!

The YouTube incident has taken a new twist when no less than Msgr. Achilles Dakay, the spokesman of his eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, blamed this embarrassing incident to the unnatural sex act done by the gay patient. Indeed the root cause of all this brouhaha is when that gay had a spray canister stuck in his butt! Just imagine, one evil act causing so much controversy! Of course the pro-gay groups threw brickbats at Msgr. Dakay. But hey, the good monsignor spoke the truth and the problem with the truth is that it hurts! But as The STAR masthead declares, “Truth Shall Prevail!”
Now, the patient Jan-Jan is filing a suit against the medical team of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC). Now this case should enrich out jurisprudence because if you ask me, no laws were broken by anyone based on that YouTube incident. Maybe there were some violations of the Code of Ethics of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). But all things considered, the victim somehow forgot that those doctors saved his life. That canister was inserted deep into his butt; he was lucky that the doctors were able to remove the offending canister without resulting in an operation.
This should be a reminder to all that this is where we need those so-called “in-aid-of-legislation” investigations where our senators or congressmen debate on what laws need to be enacted in order to prevent future incidents like this one. So where are those congressional investigations when we needed one? We need new laws on privacy.

I got this e-mailed comment on our article last Friday on FBMA:
“Your latest piece is very encouraging. It is a testimony that Filipinos have the capability and know-how to build things. The government’s promotion of sending our people overseas for slave labor is not the solution to our ever-increasing economic problems. Instead the government should promote local economic developments by offering tax incentives, business incubators promoting development of small business enterprises, etc. that will enhance local employment in many areas of the country.
“I agree with you that the Philippine Navy and Coast Guard should check what FBMA can offer them. Let’s face it, the Philippines cannot and will not be a blue water navy because it can’t afford it. What are needed are reliable coastal craft that can run at high speeds in patrolling coastal areas against smugglers and pirates. But again, let’s face it, the government is run by crooks from top to bottom, that is why bad decisions are made over and over again. We’ve been sending OFWs for decades and their economic impact have been minimal in local economies.
“I believe that Filipinos should wake up and stop believing the lie that their beloved government will bring salvation and solve their problems. Haven’t the Filipinos realized yet that the government is the problem? Our people are so deep in mud in their own corruption that change is almost an impossibility. Pray for the church to wake up and do it’s job.
“Mr. Avila, the degeneration of the human spirit and continued spiral toward immorality, corruption and chaos is universal and getting worse. The USA is heading in that direction also. When it hits them, it will be a rude awakening. It’s easy to get used to affluence and comfort, but it’s difficult to adjust to being poor. Nomer”
All I can say is that I agree with Nomer 100 percent. We can be self-sufficient if we put our minds and hearts into it.
