FERNANDO POE SUPPORTERS ENDORSE ESTRADA, BINAY
MANILA, FEBRUARY 2, 2010 (STAR) Supporters of the late Fernando Poe Jr. (FPJ) endorsed yesterday the candidacy of Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino-United Opposition (PMP-UNO) standard-bearer and former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada and his running-mate, Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay in the May elections. In their gathering at the Club Filipino yesterday, Bigboy Valera, vice president of the FPJ for President Movement (FPJPM), said the newly created FPJ for Erap-Binay Movement is composed of various groups of FPJ supporters.
“We are supporting the presidential bid of Estrada because we believe that he will continue the dreams of FPJ. Among his advocacies are ensuring food on the table of every household,” Valera said.
He said they took the cue from the decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to junk the petition to disqualify Estrada from running in the May elections, adding that the group of Manny Fortes called National Coordinating Center for Volunteers (NCCV), which earlier expressed support to the candidacy of Liberal Party standard-bearer Sen. Benigno Aquino III, is just a minority among the FPJ supporters.
“We know that FPJ won in 2004. We will be more vigilant now to prevent massive cheating from happening again. FPJ’s daughter Grace Poe told us that we can be on our own. She is a good friend of mine. We have not talked about who she will support, but she knows that we are supporting Erap,” Valera said.
In a manifesto, the FPJ for Erap-Binay Movement said they recognize the similar advocacies of FPJ and Erap that is why they are throwing their unconditional support to the latter.
“We believe that Joseph Ejercito Estrada and Mayor Jejomar Binay are the only ones who can fulfill the dreams of FPJ for the nation. They have the same advocacies and among the presidential candidates of today, only Erap stands against the massive cheating in 2004 presidential elections,” the manifesto read. – Jose Rodel Clapano
