MANILA, December 6, 2003 (MALAYA) THERE'S a new, invigorating energy that permeates Batangas City these days. With the country's new international port now operational, the city is abuzz with activity from local and foreign businesses that have come to do business at the port.

To cater to the exacting demands of these seasoned business travellers, Hotel Pontefino has opened its doors to offer their world-class facilities right in the heart of the bustling port district.

Built on a sprawling two hectares of prime property, Hotel Pontefino stands out with its four-storey European-inspired architecture fused with Filipino and Spanish accents. Its yellow stucco walls with terracotta bricks glimmer in the bright Batangas sunshine. As you drive up its winding driveway, you cannot help but notice the landscape by renowned landscape architect, Ponce Verdiano. The hotel's street level has been planted with fire trees in keeping with the fire trees that line the city's main roads, part of the city government's beautification program.

With interior design by Yoly Zimmer of Design Access Inc. a feeling of tranquility greets the guest upon entering the lobby. "With the busy businessman in mind, we designed Hotel Pontefino along modern, clean lines, uncluttered and easy to the eye. The design is what we could call modern Filipino," said Zimmer. "The color palette of reddish orange and yellow was taken from the colors of the fire tree."

A grand piano dominates one end of the elegant lobby where a pianist will be playing soothing music every evening. Around the lobby are the hotel's three restaurants: the lobby lounge for all day dining, Robusta for coffee, snacks and cocktails and Pastorelli for fine dining. The menu is a delightful fusion of international and local cuisine that take advantage of the best that Batangas has to offer. Guests will be treated to house specialties like the Pontefino Pasta, a succulent dish mixed with steamed tulingan, Batangas Adobo and the Cajun Spiced Rib-Eye Steak. The sweet tooth can indulge in the Batangas Crepe, a concoction topped with the famous Batangas peanut brittle. Diners can look out into the spacious, multilevel garden with adult and kiddie infinity pools. Two function rooms for parties or conferences can further be subdivided for smaller groups. A separate structure with house a KTV room, a game room complete with billiard, pingpong, cards, chess, mahjong tables and a gym where one can unwind after a gruelling day. A luxury spa will be built to soothe aching bones, calm busy minds and rejuvenate the psyche.

The 60-room hotel boasts of spacious guest rooms measuring from 35 to 40 square meters that have been tastefully furnished with a comfortable bed, electronic safe, cable TV, paintings by Filipino artists and a sofa that transforms into a single bed for the convenience of families who want to stay together.
