MANILA, November 17, 2003 (STAR) By Rudy Santos - Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Edgardo Manda and his chief security, Gen. Angel Atutubo, were sent out of the presidential lounge of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Centennial Terminal by bodyguards of American singer Mariah Carey upon her arrival Saturday night.

Manda and Atutubo were reportedly asked to leave the premises by Carey’s security and foreign organizer while the famous singer was retouching her make-up at the lounge.

"I am the general manager here. It’s almost my home, tapos palalabasin lang ako (then they’ll just ask me to go out)," the visibly irked airport chief said.

Sources said the organizers of the concert paid for the use of the presidential lounge, so Manda, though angry, was not able to do anything.

Carey arrived in Manila from Shanghai, China on board Philippine Airlines for a one-day concert at The Fort in Fort Bonifacio.

Even mediamen were asked to stay within a 10- to 15-feet distance from the singer and were not allowed to take photos while she was walking to the presidential lounge.

But Carey reportedly waved and gave a big smile to the crowd who came to see her.

Carey boarded a black limousine escorted by cops in motorbikes when she left the airport.
