CEBU CITY, November 5, 2003 (STAR) C‘EST CEBU By Honey Jarque Loop - Some years back, not quite so once-upon-a-time, a bigwig of a player, an establishment with long-range visions and double concrete plans, known then simply as Ayala, purchased the entire 40-hectare Club Filipino Golf Course located right in the center of Cebu.

In time, with more than just a little help from Cebu Holdings, a public-listed company engaged mainly in the ownership, development, marketing and management of real estates, Ayala eventually transformed the great open space into a metropolitan hub, officially called the Cebu Business Park.

A flagship and centerpiece project situated in the middle of a huge property, it represents the corporate excellence of Ayala Land and serves as the masterpiece of the largest integrated business and commercial community in Cebu.

Its three major components include the Ayala Center Cebu, the preferred three-in-one shopping, entertainment and recreation destination in the Visayas and Mindanao. The main shopping area has four levels plus two basements of shops and boutiques, fast food areas and service outlets, cinemas and a theater for the performing arts.

The Ayala Food and Entertainment Center houses a diverse choice of trendy and popular resto-bars catering to varied tastes, such as Don Henrico’s, Bo’s Coffee Club, Sol y Luna, Ratsky, Bigby’s, Nirvana, Habib, Tequila Joe’s and Dessert Factory.

The City Sports Club Cebu, an exclusive membership urban resort, offers facilities for sports and recreational activities, as well as health and fitness programs for the entire family.

Across the street is the businessman’s favorite, the Cebu City Marriott Hotel, a joint venture project of the Ayala Hotels Inc. and Cebu Holdings, both affiliates of Ayala Land Inc. under the company called Cebu Insular Hotels.

In answer to the growing needs for communication tools, there is Ayala’s Globe Telecom, which addresses its customers’ demand for value-for-money service through state-of-the-art products and services.

Ayala’s position in the vehicle market was established with the opening of Isuzu Mandaue in July 1998. It carries the trusted Isuzu name that is synonymous with advanced diesel technology. It features state-of-the-art equipment, genuine spare parts and accessories and excellent service from well-trained technicians.

And the list goes on.

Unknown to many, beyond the towering buildings of the Ayala Companies, is an establishment committed to reaching out to the needy and the disadvantaged through various charitable institutions with projects too many to mention.

Through the Ayala Foundation Inc., the Ayala Group of Companies continues to achieve its goal of providing a better life for Filipinos in general and the Cebuanos in particular through focused programs that enable the communities to improve their social, economic and ecological environment.

This giant of conglomerates, which has definitely made a mark in Cebu, has a heart. A heart that cares.
